Ergo Proxy is mindfuck. I'm serious. If you don't want to be constantly doushite-ing when watching anime, then this is not for you. There is action, but it thins out quite fast when nearing episodes 8, 9, 10. But to guys who love the likes of NGE, Bokurano, Serial Experiments Lain and such, Ergo Proxy is one more epic addition to your list.

Story: 10/10
The story is easily 10/10. Set in a seemingly standard dystopian Earth setting, the storyline is spread among a few core characters, each a very complicated story to tell. All seemingly separated, yet connected. Mystery is omnipresent while watching. At any point ... of time, there are bound to be loads of questions flying around in your head. Throughout the anime, these questions are slowly given hazy hints to their answers, yet sometimes confusing evidence appear, and the characters themselves are as confused as the viewer. One bad thing one may point out is the lack of a true blue explanation of every loose thread by the end of the series, but hey, what's the point of watching such anime if EVERY small detail is explain explicitly?

Art: 9/10
For an anime of such genre, to have animation that rival that of other famous, mainstream anime is simply unbelievable. The environment designs are pure beauty, the movements are fluid, the action is realistic and the characters' emotions are portrayed powerfully with the strong art style used. The constant dystopian-dark theme may be the only flaw in this aspect.

Sound: 9/10
The best part of the sound aspect is the voice-acting. Every character had a very much appropriate and supportive voice that backed their emotions and character developments up.

Character: 10/10
The characters are wonderfully designed, together with the outstandingly complex storyline, gives a huge amount of character development throughout the series. They connect with the viewer closely, yet maintaining a "so-close-yet-so-far" connection due to the mystery surrounding them. There aren't many core characters, but each one is very holistically developed, at a good pace relative to other characters, and they grow into an extremely strong cast altogether. The storyline is fluidly powered by their combined decisions and actions, and their emotions fuel the viewers endlessly. Their dialogue is another thing that differentiates Ergo Proxy from other anime. When watching Ergo Proxy, you feel like you are a phantom in their world watching them, because none of the dialogue responds explicitly to viewer wants. The anime doesn't feel like an anime, more like a documentary, a true story recorded on film. The characters don't say unnecessary lines put in just to let viewers know certain details, no. The characters say exactly what they should say at that point of time, without knowing that us viewers are watching them. Awesome.

Enjoyment: 7/10
This may be the only part of Ergo Proxy not really up to the usual mark. But the reason is more or less justified. To have dialogue take place of most of the action in other anime and completely 0 fan service, it's hard to say that it has extremely high entertainment value. I guess many would even fall asleep watching certain episodes.

Overall: 9/10
In conclusion, if u like wanna get a shitload of mindfuck, get a shitload of Ergo Proxy.
