I'll keep my review short, because I don't want to waste any more time than necessary on this anime.

In short, it had a great soundtrack and amazing artwork, but those were the only things I liked. It was eye-candy or fan-service with no substance. (Don't get me wrong — there is no actual "fan-service")

It started off really well with a cool (yet generic) idea, brilliant art and music, great suspense and excitement-building, and decent character concepts, but then it just went downhill from there. When it really got bad was when the show's main antagonist arrived. Basically, as soon as they tried to introduce a real plot, things went south. Also, the characters gradually became less and less likeable the more you got to know them.

It looks like they're setting things up for a second season, but I, personally, do not want one. That's not something I say very often...

I am always pretty lenient with my reviews, so take my ratings with a grain of salt. If there's anything at all that makes me find something special or wonderful then I will think highly of it. In this anime, there were quite a few things like that, so I give it a 10.

"In the end, everything is pointless. No goal has to be reached and no dream has to become reality. But along the way, maybe we'll find love, or happiness, or /something/ that will make it all worth it."

Those are my thoughts after watching Katanagatari. You'll be teased and trolled. You'll be disappointed ... and saddened. This anime may not leave you feeling great inside. But you'll love it anyway, because it's all about those little things that keep humans going no matter how much life beats us down. Whether we fight for ourselves or others, we can all fall in love.
