The similarity? Well, there's distance between main characters - even when in Higashi no Eden it's just pro tem. 5cm/s is more serious and sadder, Eden funnier. Plot itself isn't very similar. Both of them are technically, visually and musically perfect.

...then you might like Seirei no Moribito add

Very touching fantasy stories. Pacifica (Scrapped Princess) and Chagum (Seirei no Morbitio) are both of royally families, but abandoned by them. Both have humour (more in SP) and interesting plot. Very beautiful sceneries (better in SnM), interesting characters... In fact, SnM is better. But I think, when you enjoyed one, you will like second too.

In both series are people with unusual skills who are fighting with dangerous enemies... and friends. Dramatic, but funny. Tears and laugh. Plots aren't similar. I mean Mai-HiME has better one. But both of them are interesting.
