Unfortunately, even despite the amazing direction and animation, this ending still fell flat for me. They removed some unnecessary dialogue, but this arc still felt just like a marvel-type spectacle, not something that preceded it before. Despite the “millions of titans”, large stakes this felt like a playground fight. No one seems to be hurt by the most powerful enemies we’ve seen in the whole series, and “millions” of them. The characters get hurt, randomly recover and go back to battle again with no problems. False danger, false stakes - a story with nothing on it.

Even ignoring all of that, this movie still completely ... fails. The genocidal maniac who decided that genocide was the best option just copped out by saying that he’s “an idiot”? Are you fucking kidding me? Am I supposed to have sympathy for a person who killed billions who just said “man idk why I did it it was just because lol”, and then his hometown which he sought to defend GETS FUCKING ANNIHILATED ANYWAYS.
And then the plot hole about Ymir having Stockholm syndrome? Am I just supposed to believe that bullshit.

Ruining a fantastic story, great characters with random shit.

I don’t want to say more about it because it’s been 3 years and it still is awful.

Thank you to all the animators who worked hard and have some incredible sequences even with the limited time they had. That’s what the 1 extra star is for.

Episode 0, Dead Dead Demons Deeded Destruction
I've been waiting for this anime for 3 and a half years and honestly it feels quite unbelievable to be watching it right now!
This is a pretty weird place to start the anime at, as it kind of spoils a lot of the events but also brings some intrigue for what happened before this.
The animation for this episode disappointed me, as although the background art was fantastic the art direction was kinda... off? Animation was stiff at times and characters would go off model a lot. Now this could be just because I'm not used to the animation ... style yet but so far, it leaves a lot to be desired. This short run of the manga wasn't really my favourite as it just throws a ton of exposition at you which also contributes to it being a weird starting point.
Regardless, I had a ton of fun and I'm really excited to be taken on this journey once again!

There are many words with which you can describe Inio Asano's works: stellar, graphic, beautiful, melancholic, exciting and most importantly, realistic. When I first started a wild ride through his works, I haven't expected much, but going further and further into "Goodnight Punpun" it continued hurting me by how grounded to reality it was, and the creative use of Asano's art makes the characters relatable to anyone. Well, I'm getting a big far away from the original topic.
Speaking about this piece of art, it starts as a slow-burn and somewhat mundane-nish manga about two girls living their life in a dystopia. This might be ... an instant turn-off to many, but that's the charm. With a current span of 87 chapters, it is an emotional rollercoaster which explores many themes in brand-new ways. What has always been impressive to me, is how Asano Inio writes his characters. They all seem grounded to earth, and although flamboyant and quirky, all are dealing with deep personal problems, which is explored in one of the best arcs of this manga. The art never fails to disappoint, combining goofy designs and the mundane pictures of a city. The themes and the morality of a cruel world are terrifying.
All in all, I want to say, that Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction is a must-read to anyone who wants to go through some melancholy, and experience a ride like no other. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.-Nero
