I would say this anime is probably not most people's cup of tea. I enjoyed it because well there's anime out there I can't stand watching, and then there's anime that I just enjoy for the power-ups and fight scenes.

Matthias spends a lot of time explaining what he's going to do. You may dislike that, but having played VNs like Fate/Stay Night and watched anime like "Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka?" and Saiki K, it doesn't really bother me. Also he kind of does say what he's going to do in the manga, so they're being faithful to the manga in that sense.

Also, having read ... up to Chapter 7 of the manga, they definitely skip some things. They skip straight to attending the entrance exam but he had a life before then. Sure, his home life wasn't as long as in say, Mushoku Tensei, but it was still there. They probably skipped it because they only had 12 episodes and budget constraints.

Regarding skipping stuff, for example, when enchanting the sword before the exam, in the manga, Matthias explains something about enchanters in his previous life. I'd argue in that sense, they cut too much out of his monologue and focused his monologue too much on what he's going to do.

So I'd recommend reading the manga to get the full picture on things, especially things from Matthias' past life, but the anime isn't so horrible I'd say never watch it.
