99th Class.
Hidden gem that redefines visual storytelling, and deserves its respected fanbase. Made me appreciate and love theatre arts.
At its surface, the show deceives its audience into Cute Girls Doing Things / idol musical / Love Live themes which made Revue Starlight underrated and criminally slept on. In which I assure you, it does not. RS has managed to captivate me with its beginning premise and left me an appetite of wanting more.
Revue. A mesmerizing stage of song and dance expressing brilliance.
Starlight. A story of the goddess guided by the light of stars.
The show immerses viewers in spectacular acts, relatable characters, and hidden symbolism
...
conveyed through each stage of revues. Every Revue title is themed after the focus of the character's arc in the episode. In the Stage of Fate, girls aim to be the #1 Stage Girl or "Top Star" who would shine limitlessly and fulfill their passions.
Each of them would personally clash ruthlessly to achieve said goals.
Breath-taking, and beautifully animated theatrical performances that hit the hardest when you know their reason of performing. Every girl cultivates their weaknesses to use it as a strength, bringing determination and resolve to conquer their desires.
A one of a kind show.
Masterclass representation and a very meta critique of revue theatre, and a reflection on the effects of the Top Star system on its performers. Creative and unique revue stages with their own stories to foretell.
Visual storytelling is incredible, packed full of symbolism, never failing to be immersive.
Revue Starlight manages to deliver what it needs impressively which no other show can. It hooks you into this beginning premise and constantly feeds you stories of these conflicted girls, making you slowly support each one of them.
The stage is their story.
This is how you present a story.
Position Zero.

An unbelievable project by Cygames to delight us with unparalleled consistency week by week. Tears flowing, laughs fulfilling, emotions conflicting, and fiction peaking. A comfy yet extravagant show that truly deserves recognition.
Sakuga after sakuga. Peak kino cinema. Framing in Princess Connect don't miss, and so does the people behind this work of art. A big applause to the staff and everyone working on this anime project. Treating us with visuals that surpasses boundaries, bringing out every emotion from its soundtracks and direction, and most of all giving care to their own creation.
We can't talk about Priconne without talking about its waifus. A wide range of
...
female cast that at first feels overwhelming to non-gacha fans, yet they still hold that very special place. Each guild was given one episodic story to develop, but still be impactful and contributing to the entirety of the show all throughout. No matter your favorite character, each had their own charms to proudly present to its viewers, earning fans.
Finally our Gourmet Guild's journey.
Compromised of four of the most lovable set of characters you could encounter, elevating the show's charms with their own spices to the dish. Deep bonds that tie them. The adventure and journey they each share. We couldn't have asked for a more better and loving cast.
Thank you Cygames for bringing this game, this world, and these characters to life. No words can unravel the gratefulness I feel towards the people behind this wonderful team. Princess Connect S2 started and ended with a banger. Unforgettable. My Anime of the Season.

[SPOILER AHEAD]
Sword Art Online: Progressive was absolutely an amazing watch. The beginning of a grand narrative wherein newcomers into the franchise could experience first-hand watching Progressive. Heavily character-focused. From the source material adaptation to Mito's inclusion into the movie, it was phenomenally fulfilling as a fan of the long-running series.
This was Asuna Yuuki's movie from start to finish.
(INTRO)
First of all, witnessing Progressive's events live with the cast in motion was quite the experience as an LN reader of the Progressive series. The voice acting definitely contributed a major part in Aincrad's and each character's suffering tales. A faithful adaptation that it hits marks along with
...
the newly added character Mito.
To be honest, I was skeptical whether A-1 Pictures was able to pull off adapting the 1st SAO Progressive novel in a movie run-time, having a completely original character too added, in which I supposed Mito would be an ignored character. And yet, they impressed me and fully respected the source material.
(CHARACTERS)
Tozawa Misumi (aka Mito) - my favorite Inori Minase role by far
An elite Tekken player, pro gamer moment, and the beginning factor of Asuna's immense character development. Mito's inclusion led SAO fans to wonder how will she serve and contribute in the Progressive series. But within the 1hr and 30min+ time frame, Mito was able to define herself as a key factor in the movie.
Mito greatly grew on my in the little time that she had. She served as Asuna's strength and will, all throughout. Mito knowing Asuna's weaknesses, as a beta tester herself and talent in the gaming world, Mito strives to support and aid Asuna on her short-comings both in the real and game world.
Their bond was too pure and wholesome, similarly as to Asuna and Yuuki's relationship. It was honestly refreshing seeing Asuna's journey as a character develop with all these people she encounters. Mito is very much respected and an important factor to the Progressive movie. Add to waifu. Love her.
Kazuto Kirigaya (aka Kirito) - the Black Swordsman Beater
Kirito played a relatively "side" character role, serving as Asuna's second reliable guide after her parting ways with Mito later in the movie. Kirito encounters an almost 1HP Asuna fighting a field boss. One scene from the novels that the TV series did not show, and was one of my most awaited scenes they pulled off in the movie, was Kirito and Asuna's meeting in the dungeon with a fatigued Asuna overkilling a kobold. A classic encounter LN readers are sure not to forget.
Funny how almost at the end, the sudden shift of focus was at Kirito's confession as a beta-tester, knowing he played more of a mentor role in the movie. It was an event which greatly established Asuna's current determination and desire to achieve her set goal. (This is part of the "Beater" was where I hope they'd mention in the movie WHY Kirito did confess; tldr from Progressive Vol. 1, because Kirito wanted to shoulder the blame to beta testers and protect Argo, also a beta tester)
Asuna Yuuki (aka Asuna) - the Lightning Flash
Progressive Asuna is very very different from the Asuna we know of today. Half-hearted viewers of SAO would be confused as to why she is presented as weak and wimpy in Progressive. Note that SAOP served as Asuna's character's starting point and her introduction of the unknown world of games. Despite being uninformed, she does her very hardest, much as to meeting her family's expectations. Asuna is born into a well-off family where they, especially her mother, immediately anticipate Asuna to perform well academically, putting a big strain or collar on her, unable to grasp a sense of freedom. What even more inside a game, where she barely knows anything?
Asuna popped off immensely hard in this movie. It was hers from start to finish. Sword Art Online Progressive did an amazing job adapting her real-life struggles interconnecting with her lacking game knowledge. A grand pay-off in the end, seeing her character develop through countless hardships and short-comings.
(ADAPTATION)
Sword Art Online Progressive finessed SAO's sceneries and framing. Visuals felt more alive and as a fan, seeing these details recreated with care mattered to me and has put a smile and nostalgia on my face.
Fans of the Aincrad Arc certainly would rejoice revisiting Floor 1's beginning and end in an expansive manner; ending with Illfang's defeat and Kirito's last hit which has been such an iconic moment etched into fans. The ruthful despair of being unable to log out, a stroll in the Town of Beginnings, nostalgic and banger soundtracks, sound effects of sword skills, and the grand system of Sword Art Online.
All of my favorite parts of the volume made it into the movie. Alongside the dorky and clumsy moments by the beloved cast (bread scene, bath scene, Kirito's quirks). I adored how much care A-1 Pictures had put in.
And that Argo cameo . . . almost screamed my hats off in the theatre. I legit thought they wouldn't include the rat in the whole movie smh.
(FINAL THOUGHTS)
It is the best SAO anime adaptation.
Even with added original content, it unironically felt more Progressive than ever. A big respect to the source material and cooperation between producers, directors and author Reki.
If Progressive Scherzo of Deep Night and future movies of the franchise continue to receive this amount of care like Progressive Aria of a Starless Night had, we SAO fans are in for a real treat I guarantee.
Love this film to utter bits

Shield Hero is a disgrace to the isekai genre.
the show is masked by plot devices, underlying yet common factors that make no sense at all, and the supposed narrative that our MC, Naofumi Iwatani, is looked down upon heavily, due to him being the Shield user/hero, which disappointingly does not progress further than the stated premise.
Naofumi's character writing on growth is lackluster at best. As the Shield Hero, he is innately challenged with repetitive backlashes from either the royalty, the Sword/Spear/Bow Heroes, or the public, that as show continues, you start to realize how dumb these accusations with no pure basis are. And personally,
...
the insults became laughable and outwardly, I lost pity on Naofumi. Naofumi instead became a slave-owner person who just lost all personality and turned to a lack-of-substance and zero satisfaction in the whole revenge plot(due to the characters that are presented too as plot devices) which may I remind you, is the whole point of the story.
Shield Hero's other characters are all underwhelming and again, seemingly used as plot devices to "progress" Naofumi's hatred towards them. Malty or Myne, the first princess and a supposed plot device, falsely accuses Naofumi for absolutely no reason; the King and Pope who very evidently hates and holds a massive grudge the Shield Hero's guts despite who is the actual hero, which has not given any explanation whatsoever; Motoyasu, the Spear Hero - Ren, the Sword Hero - and Itsuki, the Bow Hero, are all complete idiots with Motoyasu and Malty just being Team Rocket from Pokemon; Melty, the second princess, a suddenly lost loli noble who joins Naofumi's party; Filo, a filolial loli creature, who literally just fights for Naofumi; and Raphtalia, a demi-human slave, who I thought was going to be the saving grace of the show yet just ended being a killing machine of a slave-owner with mediocre development.
I also couldn't care less about Shield Hero's world-building (which is one of the main highlights of an isekai) at all , because it was non existent. The UI of the heroes to look at their HP/Stats/Skills, made the world of Shield Hero look like a damn game, which supposedly should NOT be a game made of NPCs. Because they are instead summoned to ANOTHER WORLD with real beings. A detailed game-looking UI was close to unnecessary at all, and Itsuki and Motoyasu at the end even mentioned if Naofumi even looked at the "Help/Support" options which could have made Naofumi's travels and grinding MUCH easier.
There was this one specific plot device which I really can't stress enough how it boggled my mind thinking how this show survived. At the unnecessarily long Episode 1, the anime and the King, respectively, supposedly states to the chosen Four Cardinal Heroes (Shield ,Spear, Sword, Bow) that:
1) "When two more wielders of the legendary weapons operate together, it causes an adverse reaction in the weapons. Working separately is highly advised."
2) "It is said that the legendary weapons repel one another by nature. If you work together, it apparently hinders their development"
And here what's crazy, in Episode 19 in the battle of the Pope and even further on, they SUDDENLY needed to work together, completely disregarding said law. . . Even Ren and Itsuki were always together fighting even before Episode 19. Naofumi clearly stated to the other Heroes "Yeah, we can't win if we don't fight together." It actually hurt my intellectual capacity. I don't know if that was just a plot device to force the Heroes to have their own separate parties, yet I didn't even felt the presence of Ren and Itsuki's party members.
An isekai's purpose is to immerse the viewers in a vast fantasy world that has lore and world-building and utilize the MC's past life memories and experiences of the real world to make way through the transported/summoned world. Shield Hero fails dramatically in portraying the isekai element and seemed like a shallow fantasy revenge plot, that is very underwhelming and unsatisfying, with a stale set of characters.
