This anime has some incredible character moments, as you can come to expect from Urasawa. The story is incredibly tight and well done, with each moment on screen being impactful. The pacing is great all the way up till the end, where it gets a bit rushed.
The art and animation is top notch, and very interesting to watch. The sci-fi elements can sometimes feel a bit unrealistic, like how robots can somehow sense each others emotions from a million miles away, and other stuff that does take away from the immersion.
Another critique is that the work is uniquely Urasawa, and you can sort of
...
see the themes that have carried through from his other manga into this anime as well. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does take away from the immersion when you notice the parallels between all of his work - like for instance the "don't kill rule", the slow build-up of a mysterious murderer, or those ugly noses (which I'm partial to tbh).
Well overall, this review seems like somewhat negative, but honestly the anime was nearly perfect and it's hard to even convey how good the highlights are. The first episode with North #2 is absolutely incredible, and Gesicht as a whole is really fun to watch on screen.

The story to me is primarily about nature versus nurture, whether it's genius going against hard work, or the sad backstories of the boxers.
The backstories are quite well done and they're all well-written. While the emotionless and terrible mental state of Yu is a core theme, it's hardly built upon, and is merely used a prop. Also the protagonist being extremely OP and his mind being such a black box sort of takes away from any suspense or impact the fight has.
Also this is just a personal gripe but I really hate that K as a villain has no level of repercussions - it
...
seems he just gets away with everything. My biggest issues are just that Yu's mind isn't really explored and K was never given any consequences.
Overall 7/10, the art is great and the story is good.

(No spoilers in this review)
This anime has really great production quality, with brilliant art, fluid animation, a great premise, as well as killer execution. It's really close to perfect.
The story tends to leave the viewer in the dark a lot of the time, where it's more like the show just shines a light on certain things rather than shows the entire picture all at once, so this is a double-edged sword, where it leaves the viewer lost yet intrigued at the same time. I'd say it surely made it unique and was interesting. The mysteries are quite well crafted too.
I will say that
...
the rules for the superpowers were a bit too hazy, and that did take away from the show to an extent - the superpowers were still enjoyable to watch tho. It's not meticulous about the rules unlike shows such as Death Note, and Steins;Gate.
The ops, eds, and soundtrack was really good. And the characters were pretty good too. In it's short 11 episodes we didn't get to know the characters completely, but the show does pack a lot of information about the cast of characters in a creatively dense manner, and does a great job at that.
Overall I'd give it a 9/10. Brilliant show. Definitely a hidden gem.

(SPOILERS!!!!!!!)
Squandered Potential.
Story - 5/10
This show was really a mixed bag in terms of story, and it starts of quite strong with amazing writing and an interesting take on a unique premise. I will not lie, the bulk of the story was great, but where it really fell off was at the last leg of the show (climax) , which is the last 6 episodes.
It starts off great with interesting fights, cool mechanics, and a realistic portrayal of what would happen if this was real life. The death of Shinichi's mom was really well written as well, with great impact on the character as well
...
of the tone of the show, going from light-hearted to kinda depressed.
Kana's death was treated with less gravity, but one could argue that it was due to Shinichi's apathy to life after his mom died, but I will say that there was nearly no impact on the audience either, which would probably not be the intended effect.
The story behind Tamiya Rouko's death was probably the highlight of the entire show, as it showed closure, as well as humanity on the part of the parasytes. That was really great writing tbh.
That's where the good writing ends though. It went to utter shit after that. All the following 6 episodes were utter trash and didn't deliver on the promises given in the previous arcs. The show had incredible potential and there were a 100 different ways it could have gone after Tamiya's death, but the writer chose the most boring, disconnected, and uninteresting way possible.
Every single episode was complete garbage, and in fact ruined some of the first few arcs just by associating with it. Shinichi is basically a useless nothing for the entire climax despite being shown to be quite capable and strong earlier, which puts the intent of the writer into question. Why show Shinichi to be so strong, if he can basically do jack-all with his strength?
And the villain was basically made to be so overpowered that he could survive literally anything that came his way, even two bullets that went into his human portion did near no damage to him. But then Shinichi just sticks a rod of poisonous burnt plastic into him, and he dies? Like damn, can't bullets cause lead poisoning as well???
Honestly the last 6 episodes were so bad you could write a paragraph for each of them, but it was just really disappointing. The last one was especially horrible, where dumbass Shinichi DITCHES HIS GIRLFRIEND WHEN A RAPIST MURDERER IS ON THE LOOSE. Like holy shit Shinichi were are your priorities.
Art - 8/10
Really solid art and animation.
Sound - 7/10
It's good, but not spectacular.
Character - 4/10
Okay so there's like two good characters in this show, Tamiya and Shinichi. I particularly hate how the girls are written in this show. They all love Shinichi for no good reason except for Otaku brownie points I guess??? And they can talk about literally nothing apart from either Shinichi or another male character. It's just disappointing.
Like i bet 70% of Murano's lines are just about how Shinichi changed. The chemistry is just not there - it just feels forced.
Enjoyment - 6/10
This is the kind of show that is best enjoyed with your brain turned off. Unfortunately it's a psychological drama. I just really hated the climax, which is truly a shame.
Overall, I'd give this a 6/10. Most of it was great, but the climax failed to provide either a meaningful ending, or a logical continuation to the build-up. It just wasn't good where it counted.

Nichijou is a show with really funny gags and a unique perspective on life's mediocrity. The humor itself is both absurdist and slapstick, and basically never misses. The characters have unique personality traits that were basically crafted to bounce off each other really well to produce the best gags I've seen in anime.
There is a decent bit of moe in the anime, but it doesn't feel like it takes away from the show like in Clannad. The moe is more so isolated to the baby professor so it makes sense in context, rather than every girl character talking like an idiot baby.
The art style is
...
simplistic with hardly any shading which gives a lot to the cartoony aesthetic of the gags in this show, and also allows the really fluid animations that this series has birthed, just for the sake of a gag.
The biggest flaw of this show is the boring and kinda weak start it has. I personally dropped it around 2 episodes in because the show is quite unique, and the material in the first episode was a little weak, but it just gets infinitely better after that.
Overall, I'm giving this a 10/10 bc there's literally no anime with that have made me laugh so consistently. The jokes just never missed. Great show, wish there was another season.

This is the best anime I have seen in a LONG time. Fucking beautiful.
I really didn't think I would like this that much based off the premise. The characters are so well written. The story, oh the story. Fucking amazing man I don't even know how else to say it.
The art was on point too. Sound was epic, Sheena Ringo's tracks were amazing, I've been listening to her albums because of this show too.
It embraces culture while not being too artsy fartsy about it. The comedy and drama was amazing. This season was like the peak of what anime can be.
Overall, I enjoyed this
...
immensely. This is the most artistically pure anime I have ever seen in my life. Really rich stuff.

This anime is such a mixed bag...
Story - 9/10
It's quite unique, in the sense that this high-school anime couple transitioned to a working class family. I feel very conflicted about this show because the story is so spotty sometimes, but when it hits, it's masterful.
After story was definitely better than the first season. Not that the first season was bad, but it was definitely a lot spottier.
The heartfelt parts were so fucking good though. I won't spoil but wow the ending bunch of episodes were easily 10/10 in writing.
...
Art - 6/10
The moe face on every single female character is INFURIATING. It's so lame and uninspired. Pisses me off to no end. But on the other hand, Clannad has some decent art for the most part apart from that.
Sound - 10/10
The music in this anime is so goddamn good. Fits perfectly, and no other OST would do this show justice. Beautiful composition.
Character - 6/10
The moe trope was more abused in the first season, but this season shouldn't be excused either. Why in God's name does Nagisa talk like a baby. They're babying her just to make her sound cute, and it's cheap writing imo.
The parent characters and Tomoya were quite well written though.
Overall - 9/10
This show has a lot of fatal flaws imo. But holy shit the heartfelt scenes are like 11/10 so it cancels out and it makes this show a 9/10 in my eyes.

This anime stands out. It is not only very much grounded in reality, but it is also one of the few anime that actually leaves a lot of questions to the audience.
If you're expecting a typical psychological thriller with a neatly wrapped up ending, don't watch this show.
This show could have easily been a live action. It's a piece that speaks about different themes such as nihilism, childhood trauma, self identity, etc.
The music in this show is absolutely perfect for it. Every scene is painted with the incredibly fitting OST.
Characters in this show are some of the best. Few shows have these
...
many well written characters.
I will say though, the biggest downfall of this show is the art. It's not terrible, but it's not some of the better art I've seen in anime for sure. I feel like the art is kinda bland and could have been executed better. The animation and such are on point, it is only the art style I take issue with.
Overall it's a 9/10 from me. You should give this show a watch. There are a lot of incredible scenes in this show. God level writing.

Okay let me start this by saying that I did not watch any of the sequel seasons, for the sole reason that everybody says it's shit. I will say though, Tokyo Ghoul season 1 was quite enjoyable to me, which most of the reviews don't agree with I guess.
The main reasons why I feel people were disappointed in this first season was that this season was mostly just an introduction to the setting and characters as well as the dilemmas. People were hoping for these questions and plot points to be wrapped up neatly in following seasons, which they weren't.
Let's start with the story. It's
...
honestly quite a good story in my opinion. I really liked the way things were headed. All the arcs seemed quite well-written to me.
For the art, there wasn't anything fancy or memorable, but it always held up imo. And the sound and music was outstanding for this show, perhaps the best I've heard.
The characters were pretty good too. While I usually hate a whiny protagonist, it made sense in this context for the pay-off. It was the best way to get accustomed to the ghoul lifestyle from the perspective of a coward.
Overall, I really enjoyed this season. Sure it didn't deliver on it's promises in the following seasons, but I think the first season is great for what it is by itself.

A slice of life comedy that's pretty hit or miss. At it's best, it produces incredibly funny skits and gags. At it's worst it's just boring. There's no real story, and this is more so a collection of skits. Similar to 'Nichijou' and 'Saiki K'.
I will mention that I might be biased because I hold Nichijou and Saiki K as the gold standard in this kind of comedy, and this anime did not hold up to that level. Was quite funny at many points though.
There's a boatload of meta jokes and I think those are fine every once in a while, but when it's overdone
...
it just cheapens the characters and breaks immersion.
I like the characters for the most part, apart from the super bland "protagonist".
