This was my first ever anime so I'm definitely biased writing this review. "Darling in the FranXX" truly was a work of art.
I first watched this about 3 years and 1/2 ago (maybe 4) in 2020, when the whole lockdown thing was going on. Now that I just finished re-watching it, I definitely understand things a lot better. First of all, I'd like to say that this anime means everything to me. The ending still leaves a hole inside my heart, an empty space that doesn't seem to disappear. beautiful. Now, I understand that everyone's taste is different and that not everyone might like the same thing...but the ending was not bad at all. Everyone ended up being happy and slowly helping the Earth regenerate. This show was a masterpiece. Peak romance anime that leaves you with a never-ending melancholia. I can't even begin to count how many times I broke down during the watching of the series. Maybe it was also because of nostalgia though...I understood the story so much better now. I realized I didn't remember half of the scenes and episodes that I saw during my re-watch. I really forgot almost everything but the most important details...and I'm glad I did. It felt like (almost) a whole new experience for me...Like the season 2 that everyone is waiting for but, deep down, we all know we're never going to have anything like that, though we still, hopelessly, try to believe. I love this anime with my entire soul. It altered me in so many ways and I wish people gave this absolute masterpiece more recognition and the praise it deserves. <3
