One Punch Man is known for its extreme hyperbole of general tropes, brute strength, etc.
In similar fashion, hyperbole is abundant and rich between nitpicking critics of the most absurd aspects imaginable. There are some valid points littered throughout episode discussions but some lose sight of what OPM, the ANIME is at it's core. Whether its FOMO ( THE FEAR OF MISSING OUT) or just enjoying an anime on a hot summer day, it remains one of the most popular serious to watch/read.
The utmost important question for ANY series is whether it can sustain your viewing regardless of reason.
Will it keep you
...
watching? The short answer is yes. FOMO is real here. Albeit, do not be confused with it being enjoyable. There are people whom religiously bash this, and consider this a garbage fire, verbatim but will keep watching it. Does it keep them coming back, yes? Some, not all have valid critiques which i can address.
The issue with these comments lies in the fact that the anime/manga are viewed as single entity/being. With each, comes different boundaries, budgets, etc as they are different medium intended for varying audiences with some overlap. Is it enough to get you into the source material? Yes.
The aforementioned nitpickers flock together reciting various lines about how the animation is verbatim "SH*T", "Pure garbage" and the best I have seen regarding the fight in episode 3, as being [ TOO DARK and not a single thing is perceivable] and such person being unable to see a thing which I could discern without a second guess. Albeit, the anime is not perfect as some people can admit. Up to this point, this was one of the better fights/scenes of the series.
Never have I seen people so infatuated with a show they seem to hate, yet they continue to watch and parrot the same critique every episode.
Story: 8/10- Character development, particularly for Garou seems to be the main focus throughout the season. The story has a clear direction to it and nothing too difficult or troublesome.
Art: 8/10- Definitely not perfect. Yes, we know it is not Madhouse but HELL YES, they spoiled us with their fights. The decision to design Genos with CGI is questionable but is beneficial at times to display his outfit. Oh yes, I wish Studio Pierrot Plus got a hold of the second season and these critics would have a field day. Nevertheless, this is not MADHOUSE animation but is sufficient at times and if this were any other show would be receiving a bit of praise for some animation.
The middle part of the season definitely loses any sparkle, but in the final 3 episodes is more than enough. Give JC Staff credit & also there is rumors regarding a one man show behind the animation seen here. There is definite improvement seen in the latter part of the series.
Sound: 7/10- For the most part there is nothing dazzling. There are some OST tracks which i would not mind hearing on repeat such as the Garou fight in episode 3. OP and ED are ok. The concluding episodes of the season feature some odd choices, though not terrible. Sound effects are also add at times but some of the bass added into fights emphasize it well.
Characters: 7.5/10- Up to this point, Garou has been constructed as a commendable monster. There seems to be an uptick in world building compared to the first season. Additionally, the little kid Garou views the hero guide & Garou himself from have built a good relationship honestly throughout the season. Saitama and Genos receive little screen time. King's true character is easily portrayed through his love for video games.
Enjoyment: 9/10- The OST and animation mingle well at times creating an atmosphere sufficient for binge-worthy nights, and progresses enough to keep you around for the next week. Garou is a hell of an antagonist and the anime is able to portray this particularly in his fights and artwork associated with him.
Overall: 8/10 - As for any anime, the main reason is to gather interest in the source material. The point is, It really IS NOT THAT BAD. One Punch easily establishes certain characters and is more than enough to get anime-only into reading the source material to see how the story pans out. There is satisfactory amount of background for Garou, who had ample screen time. Though not superb, One Punch Man 2 is more than enough with potential for so much more and sufficient introduction to the source material.
