Well, I picked up this anime because I had to translate the subs to Persian, so it wasn't really a choice anyway. Still, I'm glad I got to do it.
It was mostly a mix, and I have to confess that it was unbearable starting episode 8 to episode 13, but past that point was less painful on the brain and the eyes. I'm giving it a 7 because in the last 5 episodes, they saved the show and somehow managed to wrap it up and excuse those infernal episodes.

I will try to make it as short and summarized as possible.
I remember that I used to not take this series seriously, until I actually got to watch it. I also was one of the ones who considered Gurren Lagann overly hyped. But boy, how wrong was I. You will see action each episode and epic ones of course. The story is the strongest point of this anime and the reason is, there is a logical explanation for everything. So I have to strongly disagree that this show "ain't about story but kickin ass". It does still kick ass big time but the story is ...

The story deserves a 9 in my opinion up to episode 9. I don't take the liberty of giving an overall story point since it is still not finished. The story takes unprecedented turns and doesn't fail to surprise the viewer. Also the writer mercilessly kills off important characters.
The art is the best I've seen in any anime so far. A plain 10. I would give it a 11 if it was possible. The animators have succeeded in masterfully merging 2D and 3D animation without messing it up. Also everything about the art is fantastic and that said, I need to mention the amazing Opening ...

This thing which many of you call anime used to be cool at some point until the producers decided to just destroy with loads of fillers. Of course, it was never a top anime. The twists and the storytelling is fine but I don't understand why is everything so Cliche in it.
