Story (4)- It was very meh. It moved very fast and kept jumping perspectives and was not good and flashback sequences. Also the trailer and advertising gave me expectations that plummeted 3 minutes in. Character relationships and growth made no sense and were completely forced too.
Art (5)- Really was not that great to look at and I felt it was rather inconsistent. They couldn't decide on the type of line work they wanted to use.
Sound (5)- oh no that voice acting was HORRIBLE in dub so I switched to sub, which was mildly better but still not great. And the ost had nothing memorable.
Character
...
(2)- The main girl was so unlikable and irritating and just horrible. The story tried so hard to try to make the viewer feel sympathy for her but all they managed to do was make her extremely unlikable and annoying and made me question how the other characters found her horrible personality endearing instead of annoying. On that note, the male lead found her super annoying but because a romantic agenda had to be pushed he had the most sudden realization that he never once found her annoying and was actually attracted to her but was afraid she would realize he was a nobody. That came out of NOWHERE. Anyway the best friend of each character had actual real chemistry and the two lead just.... horrible.
Enjoyment (3)- The only reason I could muster the energy to finish it was because my friend wanted me to finish it after she found out I was watching it so that I would suffer and we could share our suffering. The entire time I was giving her a scene by scene about how bad it was.
Overall (4)- I guess kids would like this enough. But if you are looking for good plot don't bother.

The animation was well done. It made great use of lights, shadows, even minor things like bubbles in a bottle of pop being drunk. However, I do not think the style will appeal to everyone. I personally did not like the way the faces were drawn, especially the lines of the lips and the ‘pupils’ of the eyes. I also didn’t like how the scenery and background, and basically everything that was not a person had a gritty looking texture to it, while the people were flat colors. I just felt that the people and the world did not match and I didn’t like it.
...
However, both of these things are a ‘style’ and a matter of personal taste.
The anime makes great use of flashbacks that seem to just melt into whatever was happening in present time. In general it makes great use of time and appropriately place analogies, such as a nature documentary after a depressing flashback that explained exactly how Rei felt. It also makes good use of ost, lighting, and pays close attention to visuals.
This anime centers quite a bit around Shogi, a game that many non-Japanese who watch it are not familiar with. The game is explained in episode 8 in a very easy to understand manner, but I think it is still hard for audiences to understand, especially as the pieces are identified by kanji. This makes it hard to get into the slow moving matches.
I felt that the plot and scenes moved too slow for me. For example, the first episode dedicated a lot of time to Rei silently (there was music) went through the train station and streets to eventually make it tho his shogi match, to which we watched him play shogi. I watched this anime up until episode 10 but will not continue because it just moved too slow for me. I rate this a 6/10 but that is very much personal taste as some people really love the slow moving atmosphere. This might be a 10/10 masterpiece for some because it seems good to those who enjoy very slow paced anime.

Plot: While reviewing this plot I keep 2 major things in mind: 1988 and only 6 episodes long. That being said I was not a fan of the pacing as very dramatic scenes happened in succession and it seemed to both be going slow and fast at the same time. The events happening to the main character, Noriko, seems to just keep slapping me in the face, while the events of the world were going slow. But the anime’s goal was for the 1st 3 eps to take it slow, as to world build, and the last 3 to plummet into the action (this was
...
directly said by the creator). But I will let these opinions pass due to how it was limited in eps and world building is important but so is moving forward the plot. I was mostly kept engaged, though some plot points seemed repetitive, specifically the female drama that was happening. But it had the feeling that this anime was trying to continuously remind us that these were highschool girls and actually gave a ‘school slice of life’ vibe but then immediately after ROBOT FIGHT. My favorite scenes were how these girls would get into these giant robots to have teenage drama fights. AMAZING. These 2 aspects were amazingly blended!
Animation: When I clicked on this I had low expectations because it is a 1988 anime. Well, I wish modern day anime had this quality! It aged very well. The facial expressions warp beautifully to match the emotions and the body movements are super fluid. It may sound weird, but something I noticed and really appreciated was how they handled the breasts of the characters. The chest moved with every movement of the characters but not in an exaggerated way and I feel like that is a rare quality as anime either has minimal movement unless something super dramatic is happening or it is very exaggerated for ecchi elements. That aside, the backgrounds of the anime are rather flat in contrast. Like when in a plane or spaceship, taking the time to look outside the window showed very flat sliding by or zooming in motions where no objects are moving. Another big issue I have is the last episode in all grey-scale while eps 1-5 are full color
Sound: The OST that they use is very good at setting the mood. And it isn’t too much and very light when used. For example, it trickles like a pleasant lullaby when having a moment of female friendship bonding. Or eerily trickles in the background during a dramatic/sad scene. But it doesn’t overtake the scene.Voice acting, which I believe is only Japanese, was pretty good. I’d say about 80% on point. The main scenes I felt fell through a litter were scenes that were supposed to be super dramatic but the voices fell very flat. As for sound effects…. We have to be forgiving even if two robots fighting sound like light sabers because it was 1988….. Anyway yeah, there were a lot of scenes like that, but that is common for the 80s and 90s and I think it is unfair to compare it to modern day. But there were also some really good sound effects too, such as when the coach is walking there is a tiny little squeak with his footstep because he has a cane.
Even if you do not like vintage anime, I think this anime aged well so it is definitely worth a try. All of you that think Evangelion is the godfather of anime, well excuse me but THIS anime is actually what inspired Evangelion and Evangelion low key copied a lot of the concepts from this anime soooooooo- just throwing that out there. This anime should’ve been the posterchild for vintage mecha……. Anyway I can see why it isn’t as it is only 6 episodes long, and though the anime is great, this was kind of lowkey ecchi for the 80’s with those outfits they wear and how the chest moves with every action, so I can see how some audiences from the past may not have been pleased.
My rating: 8/10 highly recommend. It’s only 6 eps so won’t hurt you to watch.

Pros: I know nothing about gambling, not even the basic games, so the gambling scenes shouldn’t have been too interesting to be since I have no clue what is happening BUT the gambling scenes were kind of amazing? The started off slow but one's emotions started to rise and the cheating was explained I was invested.I wanted to see how the comeback would happen for either character. And though I dislike the school setting and how almost every main character is low-key crazy, I did really love the way the psychology was expressed. The ecstacy of winning (though it did get a little too sexal
...
at times) or the meltdown from losing. The inner thoughts. All of that made for very interesting matches in games that I did not understand. I also liked the character opposites of Ryota. Yumeko being a gambling addict who doesn’t care if she wins or loses and Ryota being the common sense questioning (and being amazed) by her every single time. The main point of this anime is the psychology/mystery and not knowing if Yumeko will actually win or how. Also I love watching how she is always calm and how razzled her opponents get. The betrayals, bluffing, reverse psychology, and so much more keeps the watchers on the edge of their seats.
Cons: I think the school setting for this is too unrealistic and makes it hard for me to become immersed. Also, the fact that this is a school but we see no teachers or actually class, except for the 5 second introduction makes this even more irksome to me. In my mind there were a variety of different settings (specifically with adult characters) where this would’ve fit better. I mainly have an issue with this because the punishments that happen for losing, such as planning the loser’s marriage and pregnancy to a creep, is a little much. Or a character being able to walk around and gamble with a gun with 1 bullet as the gamble. If it was just kept to bullying/school servitude I probably would have liked the setting more. Also, all the characters are very one-dimensional- they’re all crazy. This makes Yumeko less interesting, especially because we know that she is going to have a crazy gambling moment, her opponent is going to be spawned to have a crazy moment, and Yumeko is most likely going to reveal their cheating method. The reveals are fun, but it is all so monotonous. The only one that isn’t is Ryota. There is not a single sane character besides him, and besides one other from this large cast he is the only other male. This is a co-ed school but even most of the background characters are female, except when they do a quick full room shot. There were a few more males in S2 but still
Animation:The animation is mostly pretty solid, for the main characters at least. This is one of those anime where you will experience a lot of slack on background characters, even if they’re on screen for a good amount of time. For example, there was this one episode about group gambling to swap bets and you could see a stark difference between the two important characters at the table and the two background characters that were used just for this plot device, but since they were on screen this long they should’ve gotten the common decency of things like eye shines and not basic flat shading. Even someone who has not watched the anime would be able to look at a screenshot and be able to tell. Also, there are scenes, such as when they grab cards and it just shows their hand, that it looks like they changed the animation to CGI or something to make it delicate, but to me it just looked off. Now the next thing is personal opinion: I did not like how detailed the animation would become for the scenes where the girls go crazy. The eyes and facial expressions were epic, but I felt like it morphed a little too much at times. And all of the sudden their usually flat colored hair would show all the strands, etc. I felt like the style changed a bit too much in these scenes compared to the normal scenes, but others may have loved it. I loved the eyes but the other parts were a bit much. I like the style to remain mostly consistent. I did like the overall designs of the characters, except that it wasn’t consistent with the eyes. One character having stars, some characters having pupils, the shading etc. But that is personal opinion
Overall: I think that this anime was too sexual for a shounen, not as in actual scenes but with how excited the women sometimes get with their squirming, self touching, and flushed faces. But this is a shounen so I’m sure it is trying to appeal to young boys with that, but I think it is more appropriate for a seinen. Also I stated how I feel about the setting being in a school. I won’t go into detail about settings I think would be better, but with the amount of psychological problems and the extreme risks of some games (having an eye gouged out, possibly being shot, being sold into a marriage from debt) was just way too much for a ‘private high school’. The psychology and mystery of the series was on point though, but there was just too much of every character being crazy one way or another, aside from Ryots and Mary was actually pretty normal compared to the rest. Also, though I liked the psychology the whole thing was pretty repetitive.
With all that I give this a 6/10 because though the psychology was good the cast was very monotone and I could get immersed in the game but not the setting.

Plot: The plot basically follows around a group of Jaegers (german for hunter) who’s main goal is to eliminate the vampires. They all have different reasons that are revealed in the throughout the story. The main plot though surround Yuliy, whose goal is to avenge in family, but lets just say that there was a lot of stuff in the background that he was unaware of that makes it so that killing vampires isn’t the exact revenge he should be seeking per say. Since this is spoiler free I can’t go into detail, but this series really keeps you on your toes with the mysteries,
...
cryptic backgrounds, and just wondering how a certain relationship (not romantic) will end!
Character: I liked how all the characters came from different backgrounds/ethnicities. Though it really didn’t play too much of a role in the series as a whole it was still a nice concept. The character relations were also very interesting, though it is hard to say without spoilers but there are a few strained relationships in this series that either started like that or were introduced. With that comes a lot of character development, there is so much character development in just 12 eps and that is amazing! There are also questions (as watchers) as to why each character chose the path they’re on so it is always a treat when we get the answers.
Art: Animation was not the strong suit of this series. It wasn’t BAD but it was very flat. Let me start with the good though, the movements were amazing. Fighting scenes were so fluid and just in general the ways the characters just walked naturally etc was very nice. Also, I LOVE the eyes and the attention to details to that feature. All the main characters had such beautiful and different eyes. Onto the bad now. For one, the background didn’t match the people. I can kind of compare it to if you took a picture of the real world and used that phone app filter that makes it look like a cartoon. The characters themselves don’t have depth, except for super basic shadows/shading. But I think where it really fall through is the gore. It reminds me of an 80s horror movie where they didn’t have budget and anything red is blood. For an anime with so much violence I would’ve liked blood splatters to look decent.
Overall I give this series an 7/10, my typical ‘you should watch this’ rating. I know I didn’t write much but that is because this is spoiler free and the plot just has so much! Also, anime original? YES PLEASE! The animation was it’s biggest flaw but it wasn’t unbearable, I really adored character designs and the movements were so fluid. Anyway plot matters more.

Story (6): It was a somewhat unique plot that touched on lives being parallel to each other in different dimensions and how the events in one can affect the other. The way it was implemented was rather mellow though and the world building was rather non-existent. However this movie was made to promote the game, which I have not played, but I am assuming that if you are a fan of the games then seeing the world in the movie was probably epic.
Art (6): I have 2 issues with the art. One, the cgi was horribly blended into the anime. Two, the art tried very
...
hard to mimic Ghibli, since Ghibli was behind the animated scenes in the game, which left me comparing the two art styles and how Ghibli was superior. That being said the art itself was pretty good but when it tried to be an inferior clone I can't exactly rate it highly.
Sound (7): Nothing good or bad to say about the sound. There were sound effects where necessary and the voice acting was good. Where it felt a bit lacking was in the ost.
Character (7): They were rather bland. Character connections seemed superficial. However there was a plot twist at the end that had me go 'whoa' and that bumped this from a 6 to a 7.
Enjoyment + Overall (7): I was able to thoroughly enjoy the movie for what it was. Some nice plot twists kept me engaged.

Now, this was published in 1994 and I am sure this flourished in it's original time, as yaoi wasn't as popular as it is now and it was targeted the audience of that time, so after that disclaimer let's continue. The art irked me, especially with the faces, more specifically the Uke's giant eyes! I know this art is out dated but I am familar with other art from that time and the faces are still bad in comparison to others from the time. Other than that art was pretty ok. The physical proportions were pretty good and art was consistent so can't complain
...
too much. Plot wise...... just no. It was more sex than plot. Something good happen, sex. Something bad, sex. Actual plot, interrupt 5 times for sex. If you took all the sex scenes out I bet this would only be 2 volumes long instead of 6. This is the 1st time a I've had an issue with sex in yaoi lol. The plot was so bad that I actually accidentally skipped a whole volume and didn't realize at all because most of the plot was just them finding reasons or situations to have sex. Ie. Jealousy, didn't see each other for a bit, etc..... so yeah.... I went back to read the volume that I accidentally missed because WHAT IF I missed something important, nah just more reasons for sex. So I mean if you want 6 volumes that had potential plot points ruined by the immense amount of sex then yeah you'll like this..... if not don't bother.

Story (8): I loved how the story as a whole was solely about Kenshin's redemption and personal struggle about his past. It also gave enough time to give shining moments and backgrounds to other characters but did not get lost in it. I do wish that there could've been more time dedicated to character interactions outside of high tension plot events or in the midst of battle. This was one reason that I felt some romance was really forced and not natural at all.
Art(7): Action scenes were drawn so fluidly and over-all the art was good. A very large portion of characters had spiky hair
...
though, just saying. Honestly there is nothing bad that stands out to be but it just wasn't my favorite art, especially with the faces and this is my personal opinion so I give it a 7.
Character (8): There is only one character I had an issue with and that was Kaoru. All the other characters had character growth and strong morals behind them that set them on their chosen courses but Kaoru was just annoying with no redeeming traits. I would've scored this as a 10 if she wasn't the main female. But aside from her everyone had an amazing aura about them and I really enjoyed that!
Enjoyment (7): I was able to binge through this but it did take me a little time. I definitely enjoyed it but I feel like the 2nd half was when I really got invested so it personally took me a little while to become fully invested.
Overall (7): I really enjoyed this and for my ratings a 7 is actually really good. I didn't exactly dislike anything about the manga outright, except for Kaoru's character, it is just a personal preference of liking to see a little more character interaction and not almost all of the plot being fighting or planning to fight. I really mainly say this because since we didn't have much time with character interactions it just made some stuff seem super unnatural, like the romance bits. But this is a classic shounen and the fighting was epic so if you like that then I bet it is a 10 for you!

Story (7): The story was pretty cute. I would rate is a bit higher but there was a whole volume dedicated to a troupe that I highly dislike so that it a personal issue. Otherwise I'd say the plot was somewhat unique for a bl and the love was very genuine and adorable!
Art (10): I may be biased on this one. I outright love Zaou's art. It is so crisp and beautiful. When I see a manga by Zaou I can easily identify it, which definitely show talent!
Character (7): I thought the characters were all very cute but at the same time the personalities caused
...
a lot of random drama. I would've traded the drama for more fluff so I didn't like how stubborn and rather self centered Izumi was.
Enjoyment (8): I binged it in one go and thought it was adorable, all except that 1 vol I mentioned before, but again that is a personal pet-peeve.
Overall (8): I think this is a very good BL manga, especially for beginners that are okay with the erotic scenes.

Story (7): It was a rather unique plot but also not something that has never been seen before (which is to be expected). Anyway it is about a human girl, Taira, that gets involved with 'devils' (which are low key modified vamps). It is mainly told by her pov and the pov of her half-devil love interest, Anzai. But it does jump pov a lot, thus touching on a bunch of different social and political views etc.
Art (7): It can definitely get wonky at times. My main issue with it would be that the anatomy really isn't consistent. Examples being big heads and super tiny
...
hands a good portion of the time. Also the art def changed as the series went on, rather common, but there was one character who was supposed to be ugly but still looked rather normal but when her character arc came they like hit her with an ugly bomb to emphasize her issues. I didn't like the inconsistency with the art concerning her, it would've been fine to leave her design as before. Other than all that I actually enjoyed the art and appreciate that it isn't a common style.
Character (9): I will just simply state that there was a large cast, all of which had strengths and weaknesses. They were all fleshed out pretty good. And with the switching of pov you got to experience a lot of different social and moral beliefs between characters.
Enjoyment (8): I was able to binge it without stopping and can binge re-read it and still get a lot of entertainment from it.
Overall (8): It was rather good and def up there in my favorites but there were some plot holes or just things outright left unanswered, which is spoiler territory so I will leave it at that.
