Both are josei/slice of life that share similar themes. Focusing on the lives of 30-something working women making their way in a modern world. The tone is different (though there is some overlapping). Otona is a somber and nostalgic character study of the four different women. Hataraki Man is more 'sex & the city', but in a good way.

Fast paced action, coupled with a multi-tude of mysterious characters. Very dark setting. But most of all the art style is almost scarily similar.

Both are comedies with a high-school aged cast. Both have eccentric and hilarious female leads with a straight-man comedic companion. Both shows have loveable characters and is filled with pure comedic genious...It's like watching Scrubs or Arested Development. You could say they are both post-modern romantic comedies. It's got parody and a lot of 'breaking the 4th wall'. I love the interactions between Haruhi/Kyon & Nagi/Jin:) The show includes HEAPS of fan service, which is great considering how cute Nagi is. So if you like Haruhi, then you'll love Nagi...

EXACTLY the same...seriously...the only difference is that the lead character doesn't actually want to go into the school, but is forced by her mother. Otherwise it's eerily familiar. Its also does not play up the comedy as far as Hana Kimi does.
