Genmu Senki Leda

Main characters of those series are suddenly transported to a new, strange world. There they learn that they have some hidden power that is required to save this new world. Of those two "Genmu Senki Leda" has a more comprehensible story but "Unkai no Meikyuu Zeguy" is not bad either. It would definitely work much better as a longer series, tho. If you liked one you'll most likely like the other too.

While not apparent at first glance, both series have an interesting time loops in them. The one presented in "Fire Tripper" is a more complex one, that might leave you confused even some time after watching it. The time loop in "Unkai no Meikyuu Zeguy" is quite simple, but still interesting to watch.

Magical Girl parodies are not that rare but somehow hard to find. So if you're looking for some, here are two. Pretty Sammy spawned from Tenchi Muyou franchise and later created it's own full-length TV series. Nurse Witch Komugi is a parody of many different anime, not only magical girls. The catchphrase for "villains" in both is similar too ("let's begin" in Pretty Sammy and "let's begin de gozaimasu" in Nurse Witch Komugi).

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. That famous quote by Arthur C. Clarke describes those two anime pretty well. In "Didn't I Say?" it is revealed in the first episode that "magic" is just the work of a very advanced nanotechnology. In "Scrapped Princess" it is heavily implied that "magic" is some kind of lost technology.

A romance with obstacles was a very common theme in the '80s and these two anime are examples of such. In Yawara it's a romance between a judo prodigy girl Yawara and a third-rated sport news reporter Matsuda. In Maison Ikkoku it's between Godai, a tenant at Maison Ikkoku, and Kyoko, the new manager. In both anime the romance progresses nicely, but with way too many obstacles.

A good mix between sports and romance anime is a rare find. But fortunately these two anime are examples of such. In Yawara the sport presented is judo. And similarly as in Yawara, by the time the anime ends you will learn the basic of the game. In both anime there is also a romance that's progressing nicely.

There are no bloopers in anime, right? There can't be any since everything is drawn and not filmed, right? Wrong! Some anime were actually filmed and the characters are just actors. And as it is with any movie, bloopers do happen when filming an anime. The Choujo is stand-alone feature, where at the end you can see some of the scenes that went wrong. Ten Little Gall Force is the "making of" for Gall Force movie franchise. You can see interviews with the actors mixed with some of the bloopers that happened during the filming.

Main characters of these two anime are "Unluckily Lucky". The "lucky" part is that they always survive their missions. The "unlucky" part is the apocalyptic amounts of collateral damage. In The Choujo the cause of the collateral damage is the superhuman strength of the main character. In Dirty Pair is the fame (or infamy) of the main characters that causes their enemies to overreact and in consequences they have no other choice than to use a deadly force.

Dream Hunter Rem is light-hearted, with a bit of comedy and ecchi. Paprika is a serious one that will leave you with philosophical questions.
