How uniqueness can be so easily turned in the same generic stuff you always see.
To be honest, I really enjoyed Sousou no Frieren and the MC as well, it promised me a very interesting and different pov on a fantasy anime, hell, maybe even in a fantasy fiction. And it started like that, you follow the life of an elven member of the world saving party, after they saved it. Huge points for that, than they follow it by showing us how they whole journey was like days to her, because she's pretty much imortal, which contributes to her stoicism, which for once is shown
...
as a point in imortal beings that tend to be overlooked in basically every media, so the first episodes takes you down the memory lane with her, and you see that she feels things, she miss her friends, she cries and it's so promising. But it falls off. Some episodes ahead, you are following her and her newfound party, a girl that her friends tutored and took care off, that manages to be WORST than the imortal being when they need to feel stuff, and a guy that was also tutored by another friend of her, that is strong but lacks confidence. And to be fair, it seemed fine. Revisiting her past, making new connections, but the problem is: her development get so slowed down that you go through a whole episode without seeing her feel anything new, not a inch of a rediscover of her past journey or a new feeling for the new one and it all goes to shit when the anime decides to start the fighting.
So about the fighting. She's hella powerful, a point that the anime makes the whole time and it gets boring. I mean, the first time we see hear blasting the demon, its fine. Its cool. And it should've stopped there. But they decide to keep ringing that bell and it feels like you are watchin a boring isekai(90% of them), where the MC is overpowered and it only serves to fill the audience need of fanservicing, and this made all fall apart. Because the start promised something different, but thats the same stuff generic isekai have been giving us for years. "But you dont want to see magic and fight in a fantasy?" My point ain't that it shouldn't have fighting, but make it less important or make it interesting and that it serves something besides showing how powerful she is, because we already know that. It's fighting for fanservicing and not for plot advancement, character development, nothing of that.
I believe that a ton of people will like this anime. But I believe that it fell short of what it promised, I don't how they deal with those scenes in the manga, I hope they have less "page time" and they focus on the journey, the discovery and rediscovery of oneself.
