I find that this current rating system won’t fully encapsulate my thoughts and feelings on Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer). But I will try my best to articulate while my impressions are still fresh.

I was hooked from the beginning. I think pure sibling relationships are a joy to watch because I grew up very close to my own brother. I would say it’s a trope I enjoy watching (so long as there’s no fucking incest). I related to Tanjiro’s anxiety over protecting his only family member he had left from a society that was very damaged by demons.

How does one capture the feelings of loss? More specifically, how does one capture the displacement and longing from a post-WW2 generation?

Drawing from my own experience as a diasporic Korean American, I can tell you that this film really resonated with me. I can only imagine the stories my own grandmother told, both to herself and to the world she inhabited, in order to get by -- nay, succeed.

It is the perpetual rewriting of the self that makes one resilient. It's how we can preserve our history yet move forward in the midst of tragedy.

Utter nonsense. I tried very hard to be lenient while watching this show but it's an embarrassment. I pretty much knew what I'd rate this show as soon as Matsuri was introduced.

Entirely unrealistic and the climax is a major letdown considering the ridiculous amount of plot points that came out of nowhere to add tension. Too many random makeout scenes (that are actually extremely rape-y). Matsuri is deranged, and the sexualization of her character is pathetic. Not sure where the show was trying to go with the sugar daddy subplot. Just way too many bizarre scenarios are excused and forgiven for seemingly no reason at ...
