this review was written solely for the fact this show is insanely overhyped. The main character; Ayanokoji is a textbook self insert for the viewers own power fantasy, with an edgy past of "i was raised in a white room" type background, didn't read the LN nor do i plan to, but this show feels exactly like it is: a cash-grab as the die hard fans bombarded the studios and social media to get another season. the art isn't bad, but the animation is bland, for example, just watch the track episode, how the hell do you screw up and make a background character run,
...
overlapping a character in the foreground.
Another point is there is no suspense or worry as to what's happening next, this show fails to deliver what season 1 did, it feels like a repeat of a promised neverland, the point being made with this review is that the show is dick-ridden to the point it's laughable, look at devil is a part timer, that show got hyped enough to get a second season this summer as well, yet it still remains infinitely better than the disappointment left by classroom of the elite 2.
TO SUM IT UP
Story 2/10 -just isn't there, plot isn't going anywhere
Art 6/10 -art isn't bad, just feels like the average anime art style and character design
Animation 4/10 -refer to track episode
Soundtrack 6/10 -i like the opening and ending themes, they're nice pieces
Characters 4/10 -the show would be infinitely better with any other character as the lead
Overall 3/10 -adding up the mean score you get a 2/10 but the show isn't horrible so it's at a 3
SPOILERS START HERE
With each episode it just gets increasingly worse, at first the show was solid, at about a 6-7 range like season 1, but as it went on it dwindles to a 5, then a 4, and after the last episode it's easily a 3, the most recent episode released at the time of writing was episode 11 where Karuizawa gets lured into a trap, of a freezing room and Ryuuen dumps water on her to try and get her to expose Ayanokoji, there is no sense of suspense watching that scene as it cuts to Ayanokoji with the study group as he just ignores the bait.
DISS TO THE FANBASE BC ITS FUNNY
Personally the hype fails to reach an audience that wasn't a resource room regular, there's absolutely no doubt the concave heads of the fans were absolutely over the moon, grinning ear to ear and giggling in their highchairs as they pretend to grasp the overcomplicated exams that are there just to be overcomplicated with no real addition to the plot. If you wanted to watch a show where the plot is nearly identical to cote, being talking and dialogue, watch Hyouka which is infinitely better with a far more believable "mastermind" main character. Wrapping up this show is a power fantasy for those who self insert into every shounen protagonist there is as they guzzle down a bottle of soylent and make an edit with the caption "ayanokoji negs."
Now before you start typing hate mail on my profile, is that really what you're role model ayanokoji would do?
