"Blue Lock" is a high-stakes sports anime that has its fair share of pros and cons. On the one hand, the animation is -more or less- good. However, during the more intense action scenes, the animation quality takes a hit, with the use of CGI being particularly noticeable and sometimes detracting from the overall experience.
When it comes to character design, "Blue Lock" is unfortunately underwhelming. The majority of the designs are repetitive, generic, and lacking in unique features. Some of the designs are even unappealing to look at. Additionally, the representation of football in this anime is unrealistic and not reflective of the sport.
Another issue
...
with the anime is the random and lengthy monologues that the characters give in order to explain their thought-process and the state of the field. These monologues not only kill the intensity of the action, but also detract from the overall experience, making it less engaging for the audience.
The most disappointing aspect of "Blue Lock" are the nonsensical terms used by the characters. Terms like "weapon," "skill," "turn zero into one," "find the chemical reaction," and "copy someone's weapon" are spouted without any real understanding of the training and development that goes into becoming a successful football player. The author treats skill development as a game of points and upgrades, rather than the hard work and dedication that it requires in reality.
In conclusion, while "Blue Lock" has the potential to be a great sports anime, its shortcomings in character design, unrealistic representation of the sport, and random and lengthy monologues make it less impactful and enjoyable for the audience.
"Blue Lock" fails to live up to the standards set by other sports anime like Haikyuu. If you are looking for a well-rounded anime that boasts a diverse cast of compelling characters, a realistic and accurate depiction of the sport, outstanding animation, and a mature approach to skill development and talent, then this anime is not the right choice for you.

[SPOILER-FREE REVIEW-ISH RANT]
When I first watched Made in Abyss as it was airing, I enjoyed it for mainly a couple of reasons: the beautiful animation of the breathtaking sceneries, and the music that masterfully accompanied it...ultimately creating an anime that embraced the word adventure.
Later on, I loved the addition of Nanachi and her interactions with Reg. I was curious enough to wonder how they're gonna survive this perilous abyss, but not enough to read the manga, but enough to be excited for this anime.
What I found with this movie is just.... pure disgust. It's basically needless gore and child abuse, with little to no value
...
to the actual story. I thought maybe the antagonist has an interesting philosophy or some sort of a redeeming quality since he has favourites of MAL that's equals to the favoruites of Reg and Riko combined... but I found none whatsoever. He's a mere sick psycho who says "Subarashii" a lot, giving a false impression of being interesting and/or deep.
And while the animation and sound were good in a vacuum, but one cannot enjoy them much when he/she wants to throw up.
Mind you, I'm not a faint-hearted fella, I watched cruelty in fiction many many times, not that I'm proud of that. However, it's usually there for a reason. But this movie makes wonder: "What in the world am I watching and why? When is the movie gonna end?"
If you're looking for an interesting adventure, don't watch the movie.
If you're looking for major plot development, don't watch the movie, you can have someone summarize the kinda important points in less than 1 minutes.
If you're looking a cool and/or deep villain, don't watch the movie.
As for me, if the story continues giving us this sort of nonsense, then I'd have to say goodbye to it.

"No one, not even me, was truly a reed boat. To be
swept away or not - we were the ones to choose"
~Secret-Knowing-Classmate-Kun
"I met the full-bloomed cherry blossom (Sakura) girl, and my fate had begun to change"
~My edited version of Your Lie in April Slogan.
Yes, sometimes life can force ordeals, troublesome people or situations upon. But at the end, we make many choices. The you reading this review is reading it because he/she chose to do so -And I'm thankful-. This review is here because I made the choice of writing it after being moved by the novel.
...
This is a story of two polar opposites, Sakura, the girl everyone knows and loves & The Boy, who's not acknowledged by anyone -whose name isn't revealed until the end allowing the readers to immerse themselves in the character.
But despite their differences, they "get-along" well. You spend time between their trips, chit-chat & Black comedy.
It's because of their differences, that each one is an interesting mystery to the other.
But the side we see more is the boy's side since he is the narrator.
You join the boy's journey of knowing what it means to live in Sakura's eye and watch him as he changes little by little.
Being alone can be comfortable, but loneliness means you can only "imagine what others think of you"...But never really know.
"It's not easy to involve yourself with people".
But it can be worth it.
After all, "People are defined by their involvement with others".
The story is about knowing oneself, knowing the others.
But more than that....It's about knowing the "You" that the others see.
Always remember that changing....is a choice.
After reading this you'll think about the choices you made, the choices you want to make & your definition of living.
Watching the sick Sakura living her life to the fullest will move something in you.
Encouraging you to make use of everyday..to have fun, to know more people, to convey your feelings
"The value of each and every day is the same - no matter what I did, to me, the value of today won’t change".
The tile that suggests Cannibalism "I want to eat your pancreas" is actually pretty romantic yet so tragic once you know the context.
NOTE: I'm reviewing the novel.
I will read the manga then update the review if needed, although unfortunately, only 6 chapters out of 10 are translated to English
