These strike me as similar, they are both romantic dramas, both a bit tragic. both have action as a major genre as well. The main charter in each dose not want to fall in love. There are more similarity's but if I told you them I would be giving it away! Watch the other and see what I mean. ;)

These two films are similar in that they are both movies(not shows, although RK has a tv series). also they are romantic tragedies, with astoundingly beautiful animation. Each of them have a bit of action, although RK had considerably more so. And the only two films to make me cry out of love.

these films are both hugely symbolic; They both require some good thinking afterward. They share an "epicness" (in their scale) about them that I don't want to spoil. I think they are nicely animated, and the color pallets are also oddly alike.

Super similar moral but completely different presentation. Same studio. Mind games is BRIGHT and CHAOTIC. whereas Princess Arete is muted... and slow... Bolth are amazing in there own way. Im my opinion, you watch these two films and you know how to live life.

Both of these anime have a similar calm, pace. Both are starring little girls. Tonari no Totoro is a bit more about the joy of innocence, where as Princess Arete is more about appreciating the little magic of life. I may be going out on a limb to say I prefer Princess Arete, but I hope you enjoy both! Also either can be appreciated at any age.
