In a sea full of harem/fantasy shows (that have saturated the anime community), it's hard to pick out shows that are worth watching. With so many of the same generic shows, with the same plot (i.e., MC gets reincarnated, needs to save the world, is weak but becomes super OP by episode 2-3, then has a flock of girls fall in love with him for little to no reasons) and kirito clone MCs, you might think venturing into this genre is a waste of time.
For the most part, you're right. However, Yuusha ga Shinda! is a fun, entertaining harem/fantasy show, that doesn't suck as much
...
as the rest of these types of shows. It does have some element of "saving the world" but it really isn't THAT central to the plot and I feel like the show focuses more on the relationships between the main cast more so than the plot itself. I'd say if you have nothing else to watch currently, then you should give this anime a shot. Now if you are a harem/fantasy type of person, this show is right down your alley (and is much better than a majority of these harem/fantasy shows out there!)
PROS:
- MC isn't afraid of characters of the opposite sex and actually acts like a male around females (shocker!)
- MC knows what he wants and isn't afraid to ask for it
- Plot isn't overly complicated; a little basic but there still is a story to follow
- There is a harem
- Girl cast is likeable
- Animation/art are both pretty good (you don't have to worry about that)
- Comedic moments that are somewhat funny
- Show doesn't try to be overly profound/deep and doesn't try to be something its not
- no extremely annoying characters
CONS:
- There is a harem (for those who dislike harems)
- basic/simple plot (if you're looking for a complex/deep story, this show isn't the show!)
- Show falls flat at certain moments
- no real meaningful development in relationship(s)
- comedy is kinda hit or miss at times
FINAL ANALYSIS:
If you're anything like me, you just want to know if a show is terrible or not and you just want that extra confirmation before you watch it. Let's be honest here, you probably saw this show from an IG reel or some social media and thought it looked interesting or maybe you're really into harem/fantasy. If either are the case, then I definitely recommended the show (despite with the MAL score or other reviews say). It's nothing mind-blowing or revolutionary, but it is somewhat a step above all the other lack luster shows out there. Sometimes you get that harem crave/itch and just want to find a quick show with a decent plot/MC/girls/art style and there's nothing wrong with that. From time to time, I get those cravings too and I believe that this show is one of those shows that will satisfy that craving.

I've written this review solely to let you know that the person who did not recommend this manhwa is misinformed. I'm not a big yuri connoisseur myself, but even I know that Her Tale of Shim Chong definitely fits the category of yuri, and it does it quite well actually. I've read this story over 4-5 times now, and yet, each time, I fall deeper in love with the story. The drama is good, the characters are good, the art is beautiful; the only thing that sucks is that the translations are sub-par (for the most part) which gets kind of annoying, but it is
...
to be expected. the dynamic between our two female main characters is developed beautifully-nothing is rushed or forced; it all felt natural. beyond that, we get to see the ugly truth of ancient culture (mainly the patriarchal society of those times) and how women were always demonized for everything they did.
anyway, yuri isn't just girls kissing or fucking each other; it's so much more than that, so to say that a story such as this isn't "yuri" enough or doesn't have enough "yuri" elements is a distasteful and ignorant comment to make. the love that the female mcs have for each other is a pure, unforced, unrushed, and genuine love. 10/10 recommend.

machikado mazoku (the demon girl next door) is honestly such a fun, calm, and relaxing watch. it's probably one of my favorite underrated animes ever. there are no real flaws with the show, the art is nice, the music and VA are good, and the plot isn't complicated af nor is it all over the place. definitely a diamond in the rough type of show.
the show mainly focuses on the dynamic between the two main characters: shamiko and momo. thankfully, shamiko and momo are both extremely likeable characters and are easy to watch. the only real downside of this show is that it might
...
be slow at times, but the appeal of the show was never about the plot. but even then, there is a plot (albeit simple) and it does progress throughout the show, so it isn't just shamiko and momo doing nothing all season long. machikado mazoku is one of those shows that leaves you feeling all warm and happy inside; if you're stressed from school, life, family, friends, or whatever, put this show on, watch a few episodes, and you'll definitely feel better.
if you've just finished up a big series, are looking for a quick show to watch, or hit that mid-season slump where there's nothing good to watch, i'd 10/10 recommend this show to you. i'm honestly surprised that not many people know this show exists!
ganbare shamiko and happy watching!

a shit show but a decent shit show, i guess? by harem standards, it passes the test but overall enjoyment wise, it was meh. my biggest gripe with this show was the god awfully, emotionally dense MC. i mean like there's being unaware that someone is into you and then there's just you being dumb as hell. MC falls into the second category. the girls were okay, not really memorable or impressionable characters. only character i liked was the student council president, only because she seemed to be the only person that could actually fucking think and use her brain.
onto the MC. if it
...
wasn't clear, i hate him. i genuinely don't think he even realizes that the other girls were into him which just made the whole show annoying to watch. dude was obsessed with sakura the whole show while being completely oblivious to the other girls around him. i know it's a common trope in harem anime but this show just used it on steroids to the point where it started pissing me off. like one scene, when the student president kisses him in a rather romantic way, he wonders why she kissed him. after the kiss, she even invites him out on a date but he's like "omg i dont understand her, why is she doing this?? 😣😖". like bruh, wtf? it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put one and one together lol. the plot was also ass; we get like 4-5 minutes of explanation about this whole kampfer thing and what it's about, then it just goes back to the MC and his obsession with sakura.
but honestly, i don't even expect much from harem shows (and their plots). i care even less for harem MCs, but at least make the MC somewhat competent. i was fooled by the rather manly looking appearance the MC has; he acts nothing like his appearance and is even denser than you think. i'll admit, there were some scenes that made me genuinely laugh, but those were few and far between and had nothing to do with the MC.
basically, if you shut your brain off, you will enjoy the show to a certain extent. But for most fans, unless you're an avid harem type of person, i'd suggest skipping on this show. you won't be missing much honestly.

at first, the change in art style was extremely hard to get used to. i'm ngl, i almost stopped watching entirely because i felt the whole DxD series was now ruined.
I was wrong.
both the original and new art styles have their charms. you would be extremely stupid to drop one of the best ecchi series in all of anime for something as trivial as art style. ok, well, if the art style was god awful then I understand, but DxD hero's art is NOWHERE near terrible-it's just a change. changes just take time to get used to. if you need reassurance, by the 3rd
...
or 4th episode, I already forgot that the art style changed lol. if you enjoyed the previous seasons you'll enjoy this season too; don't let the art style convince you otherwise.
lets talk about plot. just kidding, obviously, you didn't come here to read a review about plot; it's a damn ecchi anime. but, DxD does have a good plot (for an ecchi) and it is expanded in DxD hero. like the previous seasons, it was good, nothing outstanding, nothing terrible, but that's perfectly fine for an ecchi anime. I'd even say that because there's a plot to follow (not saying its ground-breaking or out of this world) and it's relatively pretty decent, it makes DxD enjoyable, even for those who aren't really a big fan of ecchi. happy watching.
also, asia & akeno >> everyone else (no this is not up for debate).

ngl, I forgot what this show was about lol. What I do remember is the plot is pretty unimportant to the enjoyment of the show. If you're on the hunt for another harem show, with the typical "doesn't take shit from anyone" MC (if I remember correctly) and typical tropes for the female characters, then you've found the right show. Look, you and me both know, you didn't just randomly stumble upon this show. You probably searched up "good harem shows to watch". If that's the case, this show will most likely satisfy any of those "harem cravings" you get after watching bigger harem shows
...
like Nisekoi, Date a Live, High School DxD, The QQ, etc... Honestly, the show itself was really unmemorable - it wasn't anything special - but it's watchable. There's really nothing that I remember that will turn you away from this show except for it being a little boring/slow at times.

Starting off, by no means is Nisekoi a masterpiece (nor is it in the stratosphere of masterpiece). However, nearly every show isn't a masterpiece and that's OK. Nisekoi is your standard harem, comedy cliche show with lots of name-calling, teasing, misunderstandings, etc... Whatever you have in mind about harem comedy shows, it probably fits the description for Nisekoi. If you're a harem enjoyer on the search for your next harem show and miraculously, you haven't stumbled upon Nisekoi, this show will most likely fulfill your cravings.
Raku, our main character, isn't AS annoying as other harem protagonists but he isn't the best either. He isn't
...
overly pervy nor is he the "blushes around any girl" guy, just a regular high school guy if my memory serves me right. Other girls are thrown into the mix later in the season but really, the story revolves around Raku's interest (or disinterest) in Chitoge and Onodera. Chitoge is your typical tsundere while Onodera is your typical reserved, quiet girl. Like I said, cliches everywhere.
Nisekoi really doesn't have any special aspects about it nor does it have any terrible aspects about it either. It's like the most average harem show in every sense which isn't a knock on the show whatsoever. It's a relatively easy show to watch because there isn't a complicated love octagon where everyone loves everyone, overly dramatic/confusing backstory (besides the whole thing with the key and lock which isn't hard to follow along), or convoluted plot. The one thing I will say that really bothered me, however, was the lack of development of romance throughout the whole season. Of course, interests were developed and deepened as the season progressed but not much really happened. Essentially, it felt like the romantic progress in episode 1 was the same on episode 20 (with little hints of things being more than they seemed throughout the season).
But even then, Nisekoi was still a fun watch. It wasn't drop dead funny but it wasn't dull. I have a personal bias towards Nisekoi because it was one of my first harem type shows hence the rating of 7 but even then, it's still a solid 6. If you find you loved, enjoyed, or hated the show but want to watch more to see where it goes, there's a season 2 that's been out but from the end of S2, you have to read the manga. Hope this helps with your decision!
TLDR; Nisekoi is an average harem show, not extraordinary or terrible but good enough to watch, easy 6-7 but 7 because of my bias.

***Crunchyroll recently removed Golden Time from their site so this review is purely a copy & paste from what I wrote on there***
To keep this review completely unbiased, I will mention the fact that I did drop this the first time around episode 9-10ish. The first time through, I watched, but without any emotional interest involved. I wasn't invested in the story and I thought it was the story's fault for not captivating me. So, I dropped it, gave it about a couple of months and tried again.
That's when I realized the beauty in the story. To keep this review spoiler free, I'll just say
...
that overall plot of the story might seem a bit weird or unconventional. Almost as if the story HAD to rely on it for it to work. However, even with that issue, Golden Time shows the struggles of romance in a college setting in a great way. The story shows relationships and communication/miscommunication in a more mature way than your typical romance anime. The storyline is relatively easy to follow and understand, and the character development throughout the show is done well. It was quite satisfying to see the steady growth of the main cast as the season moved along and as you reached the end, it felt like watching brand new characters. And there is plenty of happy, sad, and heartwarming romance moments in the anime.
I still felt that around the middle of the season was bland for certain parts, but not bad enough at all to make you uninterested (just my personal opinion).

First review on MAL; i'll keep it brief. don't go into D-Frag! expecting anything out of the ordinary or any crazy plot twists etc... it's a fun story, with fun characters, and nothing more than that. doesn't mean it's a bad thing but for what it was, i enjoyed it hence the overall rating of 6. for the type of story that it is (comedy/little hints of romance), i think it did its job well. overall, D-Frag! is the type of show you could/should watch when you're on your search for your next big series; it's relaxing, simple, and easy to watch.
