Do you like magical girls, but absolutely love giant mech fights? Do you prefer your battle waifs with a little bit of drama? Both these shows have got you covered. Aside from the visual similarities between our two lead characters, both shows also have yuri-undertones and dramatic character beats.

What purpose does magic serve? Will it make us happy? Will our wishes really be fulfilled, and if so, why must it come at the cost the dreams of other girls just like us? Both series tackle this question in similar ways. Aside from the optimistic newcomer with short pink hair and the relationship she has with the serious girl with long dark hair, both shows are about abolition and self-sacrifice. If you're into seeing people pushed to the breaking point in order to achieve their personal goals, this show has you covered as well.

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun

Both series center around a human winding up in the demon world where demons consider humans to be a delicacy, and both series are very similar in atmosphere- ie, very "Halloween Spooky" rather than genuine horror. The protagonist of "Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun" is the human, Iruma, while the protagonist of "Pochi Kuro" is the deliquent demon Kuro who develops a crush on the human, Pochi. Both series are pretty fun, wholesome, and a good read during the Halloween season!

Himesama "Goumon" no Jikan desu

Both series feature a princess getting captured by demons, and the demons in both series end up being extremely kind and empathetic to the princess. There's a general running gag through both manga: one princess will do anything to sleep peacefully, the other will crack under extremely light circumstances (especially for snacks, fluffy animals, or friends to play smash with). The biggest difference it while Syalis in "Maoujou de Oyasumi" is the one who ends up torturing the inhabitants of the demon castle, Hime in "'Tis Time for Torture" is usually being "tortured" by the demons with the occasional rare exception. Still, I think fans of one will find something to like about the other!

If the worldbuilding of either show really drew you in, fans of Somali or Hakumei & Mikochi can find something to love in the other series. Hakumei & Mikochi is more slow-paced and feel-good, while Somali and the Forest Spirit can have some intense moments that border on action or even horror, but both shows have foudn families living in a fantastical world. With Hakumei & Mikochi, it's the story of two friends and with Somali and the Forest Spirit, it's the story of a father and daughter.

Both shows have light, beautiful artstyles and wonderful soundtracks. They also have well-rounded and complex main characters as well as a decent and realistic supporting cast. Both shows take a look at love and really dig into how different people view it, and what that does to their development. Bloom Into You is focussed on one relationship in particular, while Araburu intertwined its story between several relationships (some healthy, some not). I truly both animes to anyone who's looking for an insightful view on teenage romance.

Did you like zombie idols? How about a robot idol to fill that void in your heart? Miss Monochrome the Animation is only four minutes per episode, so its perfect if you need a palette cleanser, but still want a cute comedy about not-so-typical idols. On the flip side, if you like stories about atypical idols and you just finished Miss Monochrome, Zombieland Saga fleshes out the concept (no pun intended) in really unique and engaging ways

Both are shows about a young girl with a passion for baking, albeit not all the skills required. While Precure has flashy transformations, Yumeiro has cute fairies (which, technically, Precure does too). Yumeiro is great for Kirakira fans who want a heartwarming, slice-of-life story and Kirakira is wonderful for Yumeiro fans who'd like a bit more action.

Both have a character who’s motivation is centered around reconnecting with a friend who seems to have forgotten her. Both shows have several episodes that focus on supporting characters, as well as their emotional struggles and growth. Some characters from both series even parallel each other in terms of their story arc. Both shows refuse to hold your hand when it comes to worldbuilding, and instead assume you know the trappings of the magical girl genre, which I personally find very refreshing. Both shows comment on the underlying anxiety of the future, whether that’s losing your potential or moving on from past memories. There’s a lot of heartbreak involved when you realize that doors have closed for you, but you don’t feel as if you’ve grown whatsoever.

Both series have a fantasy and folklore motif, with Kokkuki-san leaning towards traditional japanese mythology while Ookami-san leans more towards fairytales of both European and Japanese folklore. They're both comedies similar in tone, and can be more or less mindlessly binged in a way that won't make you feel like you've wasted six hours of your life.
