Apparently based on some Gunslinger game, but all I saw through the entire first 2 seasons, was a near spot on replica of the first disc of Final Fantasy VIII lol. Don't get me wrong it was actually interesting and enjoyable enough for me to keep watching. I could just see some major similarities in certain character designs, premise, fight scenarios between this show and many of the events in the opening parts of FFVIII. MC almost exact replica of Squall only opposite personality. Children/young adults taken in by some military organization and trained to be secret agents. Smoking hot, ... bombshell of an instructor. Live combat excercise that involves battling many enemy soldiers and running for lives from a giant mecha spider. All of which happens in FFVIII as well.

As enjoyable it was, the story was really lacking in the first season. It does the usual showing of a future scene in the opening of the season, flashes back 1 year and build up back to that scene by the end of the first season. Then, End of season. lol Any answers you had and wanted don't come until the next season. Of which events then unravel so quickly you get a little lost for a while before you start piecing things together. Either way, is definitely worth a watch. My story rating is only based on the first season, Likely would be higher for the second season.

Had some interesting characters and a decent story that had potential, up until it started just dragging out and inevitably ended up going nowhere.

You keep waiting through the entire 24 episodes for one or a hand full of expected twists to eventually come to fruition to give you a full explanation of what actually happened on the bridge on the night of Banri's accident. It never comes. They vaguely keep telling you what happened and that he fell off the bridge and how Lynda(Nana) was late to meet him. Yet he clearly kept having flashes of someone definitely plowing him ... over with a scooter which threw him from the bridge in the first place. It never acknowledges that fact nor explains whether or not that was the actual memory or if his memories were being warped or meshed together. It just simply never explains it fully.

Then the show ends, making it nowhere further then it was at the beginning. Banri still dealing with memory loss, flashing back between his current and former self. Still ends up with the same girl he was with at the start and not the one who he was always in love with. And the other girl just continues pretending like she only thinks of him as a friend despite confessing her feelings to him. Then it's played off as if this is some sort of happy ending? Okay sure. The only other anime I've seen with worse endings is Your Lie in April or the actual show NANA, in which the one Nana character in this show is somewhat based on. All of which end in a way that no one even wanted.

I rarely write reviews. In fact, this may even be my first. But I felt the need to say a bit about FMA: B. I neglected watching it for a while because I don't normally agree with the masses when depicting what makes a great anime.

I tried watching the first episode some time ago and it honestly bored me. I couldn't bring myself to keep watching it. And now, I was running out of good anime to watch and decided I would finally go through it.

I can't say that I didn't enjoy it. But for so many people to claim ... it to be the best or greatest anime ever, the only reason I can fathom that they would think so, is because they haven't really watched that much anime. Because it was far from being great in my mind. If anything it was really good at best. No better or worse than most anime I have watched. It introduces so so many characters, many of which you never really get to learn a great deal about. The story however, was quite intriguing and did at least get a happy ending, which is more than what many anime get. Many other shows I've watched are lucky to get a second season, let alone a proper ending.

All that being said, I've watched hundreds of different shows, which may not be an immense amount to some people but even still, I likely wouldn't even have this in my top 20 favorites. It would be safely in the middle of the pack with the rest of the shows I rate an 8/10. Good enough to keep me busy for a few days but not great enough for me to want to watch again.

So if you're bored and haven't seen it yet, then watch it. You'll probably enjoy it if you enjoy most anime. But don't expect it to be the best thing created since sliced bread.
