The “Full Metal Panic!” series does have some interesting material, but it's very intertwined with the mecha genre. When you take the mecha and the military away, what do you get?
“Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu” — an average high-school comedy.
It has no underlying plot, unlike the other Full Metal Panic!'s. I can't believe I'm saying this but... Fumoffu needs mecha. All it really is is a collection of behind-the-scenes things that happen during the original but don't make it in because of the military/action-focus.
It’s a true slice-of-life anime. That’s wouldn’t necessarily be bad, had the episodes been a bit more… Unique.

[Sousuke misinterprets some common situation] + [He does something stupid] + [Produces "hilarious" results] + [Kaname punishes him in an over-the-top way]
OPTIONAL: [Kaname rescues Sousuke] AND/OR [Audience shares in the "fluffy awesomeness" that is Kaname/Sousuke]
It's not all bad, but it can get repetitive.
You know, I feel as if this series was created with the sole intent of making Sousuke look like an idiot. Granted, he is hopeless at social situations but you'd think that a war-hardened soldier would exercise the least bit of caution. Well, it was funny to watch him; he was literally the life and soul of the anime, coupled with Kaname's reactions. Gotta love over-the-top characters!
The art and sound were decent, a quality you would expect from "Full Metal Panic!" Nothing overly remarkable, but pretty good nonetheless.
As I said, Fumoffu was a little repetitive, and I sometimes had to struggle with myself to get to the next episode. Somethings just weren't funny, or got overused (eg. Kaname hitting Sousuke with her fan repeatedly), but I thought some episodes were truly hilarious, namely the rugby training episode or even the gang training. Yup, I admit, Fumoffu would have been so much better if there had been mecha and action as the main points. The high-school dynamic is good for Full Metal Panic!.... as a sub-plot.
