This is a review of both season 1 and 2 of Kamisama Hajimemashita, since they were pretty much the same in terms of quality.
Overall Enjoyment- 8/10 Very Good - The best aspect of Kamisama Hajimemashita is definitely the two main characters and how they overcome obstacles and grow closer to each other. The other elements (plot, music, and animation) were enjoyable as well. I have rewatched this series 3 times, and is my favorite anime of all time as a shoujo lover, and is by far among the top 2 best romantic shoujos I have watched, Akatsuki No Yona being the other. The overall
...
series goes up to a 9/10 if you include the OVAs.
Plot overall- 8/10 Very Good - Nanami suddenly becomes a deity who learns her responsibilities to her worshipers and shrine, fend off attacks from dark beings, overcome the stigma of being a mortal deity, meanwhile managing school, and having fun with friends along the way. She gets help from others in her endeavors, but most of the help comes from her fox familiar (guardian), Tomoe, who has a mysterious and intriguing past that is explored. The main themes are overcoming obstacles with determination, fighting for the people you care about, being kind and helping others, truly and selflessly loving someone, and finding the place and people you belong with.
There are a few adventurous plot arcs of varying lengths, but the plot remains interesting or at least fun even in episodes where there is a reprieve from big obstacles. Still, I can't help but think the plot could have been developed a little better.
Romance- 8/10 Very Good - I don’t want to spoil anything, but the romance was lovely! I couldn’t get over how beautiful and sweet it was! This is technically considered a reverse harem because there are several characters who have a crush on or fall in love with Nanami at different points, but they’re all not around her in every episode and it isn’t a big part of the plot since Nanami has her sights on only one guy. Later, in the OVAs my romance rating goes up to a 10/10.
Main characters- 8/10 Very Good - Nanami is sweet, caring, and very conscious of her duties. She does not like being a burden on others, so she gets tough, brave, and clever when she faces obstacles. She can hold her own well and doesn’t always need someone to swoop in. The ratio of her saving/helping others and her being helped/saved by others is pretty equal, which is a beautiful balance, and a great lesson to learn. Tomoe is quiet and acts like he doesn’t care about much, but goes above and beyond his duties as a familiar and also cares deeply for Nanami. Overall, Tomoe’s character has a lot of depth and Nanami’s qualities are endearing.
Supporting characters- 6/10 Fair -The supporting characters were often used as comic relief and occasional aids to Nanami. Sadly, I feel ambivalent towards most of the supporting characters because quite a few of them felt… underdeveloped in my opinion even though some of them got backstories.
Art- 7/10 Good -The animation wasn’t breathtaking and was just average, so I was content. There were some character designs that were much more visually pleasing than others, but no one looked appalling. They do pay attention to little details on characters at times, such as the disinterested curves of Tomoe’s lips, which I appreciated. The chibi forms of characters during joke scenes are the best! My only gripe was that Nanami’s character design made her look a lot younger than she is.
Music & Voice Acting- 8/10 Very Good - Loved the opening/closing songs of both seasons! The songs were are upbeat, catchy, and cute which perfectly matched Nanami’s personality. The background music was okay overall. There’s a rock star character and the songs he sang were ok, but weren’t something I would care to listen to again. There was a lovely instrumental background song that paired wonderfully with romantic scenes. I thought all the voice actors cast for the characters were either appropriate or perfect overall, from Tomoe to even the minute characters who had only a few lines.
P.S. Please make sure you watch the OVAs especially the Kako Hen episodes! They are extremely important to the overall plot, explain any lingering questions or things you missed in the seasons, and wrap everything up so nicely.

I kept avoiding this anime at all costs because the premise of a girl working in a maid café sounds like something I would absolutely hate. But everyone was going on about how awesome it is, and I have to agree!
Plot- 7/10 Very Good - The plot revolves around the protagonist’s student council work, the maid café she works at, her acquaintances and friends, and romance. There’s a lot comedy embedded as well, which just made everything better! I didn’t think the plot was mind-blowing, but each episode was unique, interesting, and well-developed.
Main Characters- 7/10 Good- Misaki is completely kick-ass and takes no crap
...
from boys who give her trouble. She’s extremely smart, athletic, great at self-defense, strong-willed, and ambitious. She often overcomes obstacles herself without or with very little help from others. Yes, the main character has groupies and stalkers in the show, which may make some viewers uncomfortable, but she handles them without much trouble. Takumi, the other main character, has all the qualities that Misaki has so he's kind of like her rival, but more chill. He pokes fun at her a lot, but through his persistent support, it is always clear that she is really important to him. He's also very mysterious, but sadly they don't go into it much.
Supporting characters- 7/10 Good- The characters were fairly interesting or were at least funny, but all the characters add to plot and jokes rather than being annoying. Her relationships with the supporting characters are pretty enjoyable and realistic overall.
Romance- 7/10 Good -The romance is fairly rich which is not always the case in the first season of shoujo anime. I love shoujo, but I'm often disappointed with the subdued romance, but I was content with this one. I guess this would be considered a reverse harem because there are several side characters who are infatuated with the protagonist, but there’s only one guy she considers romantically. This isn't you're stereotypical reverse harem in the sense that besides the boy who likes her, the guys who like her romantically (not including her groupies) aren't flocking around her in every episode.
Music & Voice Acting- 6/10 Fair- Overall, the music and sound effects was about average; it was nothing special. The opening/closing songs were good though! The voice actors were all nice and appropriate for the characters.
Art- 7/10 Good- The art was good as well, no complaints there! The character designs were all pleasant. The protagonist didn’t look a pre-teen, which I appreciated immensely.
Overall - 7/10 Good- All in all, it was a fun and romantic story and I’m just really surprised there wasn’t a second season!

If you want to lose faith in humanity or enjoy a show with heavy gore without a real plot, this is the show for you.
I thought I could handle gore since I'd done so with SNK. I also read all the glowing reviews about this show, so I gave it a go.
Art- 3/10 Poor- The art style and character designs for several characters were so beautifully dramatic. They were probably the best things in this anime. If there there wasn't several characters that were freakishly deformed monstrosities and there wasn't so many close up shots of the nude curvy women (since the guys we
...
see nude are only the freakish characters), I would have given the art style a 8/10.
Characters- 1/10 Pathetic - You don't get to learn much about the characters because there is so much death. Regardless, I didn't want to know about most of them considering how they were almost all ruthless killers. The bonds within each clan is hardly expressed and it seems fake when it is.
Plot- 1/10 Pathetic -This show is much more violent than SNK. Not to mention there's very little lingering/remorse after a character dies. About 90% of it is violent, grotesque, and nightmarish killing/plotting and remaining 10%is about the star-crossed lovers who give the impression that they're actually bad actors pretending to be in love. I watched to the end because I thought there would be a bright ending for this show's Romeo and Juliet... *spoiler alert star* sadly they were just as dumb as Romeo and Juliet *spoiler alert end*. Some characters purposefully get into fights they're obviously not going to win by any means, which is frustrating. There was a "purpose" to the all the murders, but it seemed like blood shed for absolutely no reason other than blood lust. Also, I'm not a fan of rape and attempted rape in shows.
Music & Voice Acting- 4/10 Decent- Nothing really stood out to me, other than the fact that the voice actors and characters matched pretty well. The background music was okay.
Overall enjoyment- 1/10 Pathetic- I didn't enjoy it at all. If someone wanted to torture me with a show, this is is the show they would use. I loathe for myself for ever watching this gruesome and pointless show. I'm probably scarred for life.
