This show far exceeded my expectations. Though I initially decided on watching it casually just to fill space in my free time, I actually found the narrative to be littered with satisfying character moments. I honestly thought that I would watch like three episodes, get bored of the cosplay theme, and drop the show. My single exposure to the hobby is from watching "My Dress-Up Darling," so I figured this show was maybe not going to be for me. However, I'm glad I watched it. Good character drama. Bad murder mystery. Erased is an enjoyable anime, but it isn't great. Here's why (with spoilers).
Sotoru fails to compartmentalize intel from possible suspects during his investigations on both of his revival timelines. That plus the fact that the serial killer's identity is pretty obvious for half the season made the mystery unfortunately weak. The show is its best when giving screen time to showcase the characters over the mystery. Sotoru, his Mom, and Kayo particularly made for good character drama. Once Kayo is taken from her Mom, and out of the killer's reach the story takes a dip. I found the ending ...

Summer Wars was okay. I didn't love it, but it was a fun watch. The pacing of the film is weird. I think the film is best when you're getting to observe this family, and their love for their matriarch. Watching her step up to encourage everyone in positions of authority and leadership in her community during the phone call scene was a good character moment. That and her card game with Kenji, asking him to take care of her granddaughter are probably the best character moments in the film. Mushoku Tensei's first season wasn't perfect, but it was very enjoyable. It walked the line of being that shameless anime you can laugh at while also giving us characters and narrative that interest us. Having completed season 2 part 1 I have to say this show fell off. The characters we get are cardboard cutouts compared to the first season's. Their motivations are non-existent, and the impact most of them have on the world is virtually nothing. The only episodes that might have lasting impact on this once-great story are the last two, and the Nanahoshi reveal, which was not the climactic event it should
