I find it funny how this reboot is going through the same thing Sailor Moon Crystal went through when it was announced back in 2014. Many fans were worried that the reboot wouldn't be good and taint the memories they had with the original 90's show they all loved but were pleasantly surprised when we've seen that not only it was beautifully written, the art style and plot were much closer to the original, marvelous work of Takeuchi Naoko-sensei, surpassing by a lot the messy original anime.
With Tokyo Mew Mew New, however, we, unfortunately, have the exact opposite problem. While the original 2000's series
...
had a lot of fillers, "monster-of-the-week" episodes that weren't in the original story, none of them were bad, all the episodes were very well done, and all of them added something important to the story, and to the character's development, and the main plot was adapted well and smoothly in harmony with these episodes. The art style was also remarkable, you could SEE Ikumi Mia-sensei's (R.I.P) style in every character and location.
The reboot, however, already failed in this on the teasers. While the art style isn't ugly or bad per see, is nothing exceptionally notable, and most importantly, you can't see Ikumi Mia's soul in it at all... I'm not particularly fond of the new hair designs and the changes on their clothes (I prefer much more the puffy, cutesy looks on their transformations in the manga and the original anime than these new spikey clothes, my friend told me it looks like those kinds of pointy fabrics that keep scratching you and I totally agree), but it could be something passable were it the only problem with the new art style. (The new transformations are cute, I have to give it to them, but they're not exactly extraordinary as well, the original anime had much more glam and beautiful sequences and poses that this reboot doesn't have). But the fact is that the reboot looks like a totally brand-new series, not a remake of a well-loved series.
When it comes to the plot as well, it looks terrible. It's nothing sacrilegiously different from the original story, however, the changes they made plot-wise are at least questionable. Why did you decide to make Mint already aware of the Mew Mew Project and cooperate with Ryou and Keiichirou if you're not giving it a proper explanation? Just to cut off her transformation arc? To make things shorter? And then they cut off these well-loved scenes (like Ichigo falling from the roof) to make it (apparently) more concise, and YET, keep pacing the episodes weirdly. Like, Lettuce's episode was great, the reasoning and the final confrontation of why she lost control of her powers were better than in the original manga in my opinion. Yet, Zakuro's episode was a fucking MESS. So many things happened so quickly, there was no explanation at all, they barely talked to her, barely had a confrontation (and what the fuck, what a LAZY battle that was), and in the end, she just turns around and says "yeah, not interested in this Mew Mew shit" out of nowhere when they barely had any conversation, like WHAT?? That wasn't what happened in the story AT ALL, they didn't even give her a proper background before presenting her powers to us like in the original manga/anime. Just there, take it.
The fact is I was hoping I'd be proved wrong when I saw those teasers and got an uneasy feeling about this. But unfortunately, I was right to feel like this. Tokyo Mew Mew New has proved so far to be a lazy reboot much more focused on marketing (like, they even launched a girl group) than on actually staying true to the spirit of Ikumi Mia's work and I'm very disappointed with it. Maybe, if you've never watched the 2000's anime or read the original manga, then you'll perhaps enjoy this series. However, for long-time fans like me (whose first anime was actually Tokyo Mew Mew), this is nothing but a stain on our precious memories of this show.

(review to be updated when it finishes airing)
Honestly, I was so surprised by this anime. I'm really not a fan of sports anime, except for Yuri!! On Ice I've dropped every single sports anime I started watching. But Bakuten!! really got me! (I actually feel like people who liked YOI for the story/sport might actually really like this anime as well!)
Though the story isn't really anything special or different from other sports anime (random guy picks interest in a sport after seeing someone doing it very well), you can't help but enjoy the whole series. The characters are endearing, each with their different personalities and
...
quirkiness, but their interactions are so cute and hilarious most of the time, you just can't help but like every one of them, even if they're from the opposite team. The animation is top tier, I got interested in it when they dropped a video of their routine on the first episode and I got so shocked with how good they used the CGI for presentation parts, the fluidity of movements, the whole fact that they switch from 2D to 3D and back so nicely and in a way it complements the story and doesn't bother the viewing at all. Even the 2D scenes are extremely well made and so far I don't have any complaints about flaws in animation or continuity.
The soundtrack is also something to be talked about, all the songs are really nice and complement the story extremely well, the OP and ED are also no-skips, the opening actually being sung by Centimilimental, the same ones who sang Given opening.
So far this has been a top tier anime and an extremely pleasant surprise in my sports anime history, the episodes are very well-paced (I especially like the filler episode kinda horror-themed, felt like a nice breather and was so hilarious), you can feel the emotions and conflicts with the characters very closely and, honestly, I had never felt goosebumps while watching a "match/presentation" scene as I did with Bakuten!!, I was super into it and on the edge of my toes thinking about how well they would do in their routine.
So far, 9 out of 10, but if the other episodes are as well made quality and story-wise as the ones thus far, I might actually change my score to 10!

i feel like people giving this shit a 10/10 are either being paid or being hold hostage because there's simply no way this anime is good
with the first season of beastars i couldn't tell if this furry debatable work was a complete trash or a genius masterpiece and I feel like a lot of people can relate with that. it's such a weird and different work from most of the animes that at the same time you go "wtf am I watching, what am I doing to myself" you can't stop watching. and when i finished it thinking "now i can finally go back to
...
my normal life" we got a second season and i craved to know what would happen for whatever reason. (what kind of sorcery is that??????)
with this season tho, i can finally set down my opinion on "complete trash".
STORY: 4/10
we start off very well, with the mystery behind Tem's death still being a topic that needs to be solved, Louis becoming the Shishigumi leader by chance and Legoshi still struggling to pace himself on his awkward relationship with Haru. very nice, very well. then this cool snake guardian finds Legoshi and talks to him about the murderer still being among them and how he knows only he can catch it. then aside from the first couple of episodes its existence is completely forgotten, he doesn't appear any more and even when legoshi is able to find out who the murderer is, guess what? he still doesn't even tell snake guardian who led him in the right path in the first place.
besides that, there's A SHIT TON of things out of place that were just not developed at all. (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!) for example, they centered whole five minutes on this animal farm ripoff meeting to talk about how would they choose the next beastar and set on whoever catches the culprit for tem's death would receive the title, but he never did and there's no mention of it anymore further in the story (which means, they still don't have a new beastar). the way legoshi found out the murderer was also such a turndown, a whole season centered around it and the mystery ends with "yeah, it was me". what???? also why did he needed to kidnap legoshi? it made no sense in the story besides helping legoshi finding out who the culprit was, someone who until now had no highlight in the story and could be easily forgotten (i forgot about its existence completely for sure). Haru is almost non-existent in this season at all, it is almost laughable how the other season was centered around her and she was completely forgotten in this one, she doesn't even play a big role on the story besides being one of the reasons why legoshi wants to catch the murderer. and wtf was that ending? we still don't know what happened between their relationship, are they dating or what? and why does ibuki tried to kill louis if he was such an important person to him in the first place??? what is juno and haru's relationship now?
there are so many loose ends you can't actually finish the season without a bitter aftertaste. specially when the season whole motto revolves around "put as much gore as we can" (like dude actually ripped off the other's arm and that was it).
and don't even get me started on that fight???? 12 episodes "building up the tension" (there was no tension at all, they didn't even tried) for it and we get a fight with legoshi under the effects of lsd and with 4 coffee breaks. AND HE STILL LOSES. and that convo between louis and legoshi like what is going on?????
ART AND SOUND: 6/10
art is pretty meh, not differently from the previous season. i never understood the reason why 3d animated series put background characters as 2d tho, seems very unfitting and doesn't match the rest of the animation
sound is also nothing special, besides the boppin' op and ed is nothing really remarkable
CHARACTERS: 3/10
there was no character development whatsoever in this season (maybe a bit of louis but also debatable). legoshi's batman training can't be even considered as development, also it had no purpose at all and didn't make any sense. (SPOILER) like dude you train every day to not eat meat when all the meat you eat is vegan anyway (besides the black market's) and in the end just accepts to eat your best friend's foot without any resistance, what did it served for????
Haru is still bitchy about what does she wants with her life because she still thinks about Louis but at the same time wants to be loved and worshipped by Legoshi, which makes you doubt her when she eventually tells Legoshi that she loves him. Juno is also a great character that made absolutely no difference in the story this time besides being a possible candidate for beastar. even her relationship with Haru was not further developed in the series, which is a shame. and the coolest new character which is the snake guardian also yeets itself out of the series after ep 3.
the best insight we have of a character is probably the murderer's itself, since we didn't know much about him before, and his relationship with Tem, who we could also see a bit more (and dude, I'm sorry Els but your ex is gay). also who would think that the character we would like the most out of this season would be Louis the bitch itself?? that was a pleasant surprise.
OVERALL ENJOYMENT: 4/10
this season was a great turndown from the first one for sure. the feeling of "i want to know what happens" is still there but when you see the conclusion of things you can't be satisfied by it. "that's it??" was everything i could think when i finished it. the show tries to build up tension and mystery during the whole thing and fails amazingly every time. in the end you just want to get over with it and go back to your life, eventually forgetting what was that about because it made no sense at all. someone said that there was way more stuff in the manga that they just brushed it quickly here to compel it in 12 episodes, but I'm not digging my grave so deep to actually go and read it, that was enough animal violence for me. anyways, hope you found this reveal useful, don't believe people saying is a 10, they're either blind or just give 10s to every anime they watch

As a massive fan of this series (Railgun being actually my fav anime from all times), I couldn't be more excited to watch this season and it did not disappoint me, as always.
The first arc of Railgun T was even better than the Sisters' arc of Railgun S, and that's saying a lot! We got to see more of the characters and their development, including characters with previous no special highlight (like Awatsuki and Wannai) and characters we didn't like at all (like Shokuhou and Frenda). Railgun, as always, brings us those dark sci-fi themes of the scientific part of Academy City, filled with its
...
good portion of mystery, plot development, comedy, fluff, a little slice of life, great characters, and the badass fights we all love. One of my favorite parts of this season was the episodes focused on each member of the main quartet and how they deal with certain situations in their own way.
Though I might have to say, while the first arc, the Daihaisei Festival arc, of this series, was a pleasant surprise for me and made me anxious for more at the end of each episode, the second arc not so much. Don't get me wrong, it didn't make me enjoy this season any less, but compared to other arcs and the first half of T, the Dream Ranker arc felt somewhat rushed. Though the Indian Poker cards are introduced early in the first episode of the second half, it offers little correlation to the main dilemma of this arc. And when this dilemma indeed starts (the Doppelganger problem) characters and problems that should be an important part of it are introduced quickly, with little to no highlight and the fights are easily solved. Instead of a whole mystery that usually comes with the issue, the whole information is just easily given to Misaka and she just has to go there and beat up the bad guy. Done. I'm not familiar with the manga since I still haven't started it yet, so I'm not sure if it follows the same pace as the anime, but in my opinion the last 5 or 6 episodes could have been paced better.
Overall, 9 zaps out of 10, one of the greatest but still slightly underrated animes of the last decade for sure. I'm curious to how the next two arcs of Railgun will be portrayed.

I'm going to be bluntly honest here (this is also my first review on a manga, so please cope with it).
I can only see Harukaze no Étranger as a self-indulgent work from Kanna. While Umibe no Étranger makes you anxious as to how things will be solved, if Shun will eventually go back and a damn good character development that makes you like them a lot, Harukaze is an all over the place piece of life revolved around nothing. There's no character development at all, there's no change of pace, it's just a plain kiss-kiss eventual sex story with minor to zero plot and not
...
a single problem for the characters to solve. Shun's father, as we met him, is cold towards his return because he hasn't contacted them for years. Five years later and he's still cold about the whole situation for no apparent reason. We still don't know why or how Fumi was adopted. And so goes on.
Also, don't even get me started on Shun and Mio's relationship. There's no development at all about it, it's a cold relationship with no communication at all. They spend literally (according to Shun), three months without kissing! Three months not kissing your partner who literally lives with you?? And their excuse is "too much work"??? My parents get home super late every day and still kiss each other goodnight religiously. And even if you analyze each character separately, it doesn't get any better, Shun is in a constantly stressed mood and sometimes looks like an object in the scenario, as for example when they get together with their friends and Mio is all bubbly having fun and Shun seems to be outer space somewhere looking for his personality. Mio isn't any better, he seems more centered than Shun and seems to change a tiny little more as a person than the other characters (which is comprehensible since he just became an adult in the first manga), but his motifs are almost nonexistent, he doesn't even care about Shun's seemingly state of depression - simply brushing it off as stress - or how dislocated he feels at times with other people, mostly concerned about why the sex didn't feel good for him.
Art-wise there are some pretty nice scenes, character designs, and expressions that didn't lose quality over the story. However, sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the number of things happening in the same block. I have to stop and read it over again two or three times to understand who said what, what is the main point and what is SFX. Umibe had a more clean and paced look, while Harukaze looks... just sloppy. Dialogues are also somewhat all over the place, sometimes someone is saying something and then the topic changes completely.
Now, don't get me wrong. I really like the Étranger series and although I'm disappointed with this sequel it didn't really made me enjoy it less. I feel like there's a lot of things Kanna can work on in the story, but while Umibe looked more professional and had a real story, Harukaze right now just looks like a doujinshi with some unconnected fan stories about the protagonists. (It's still a nice bonus that although they have a certain age difference, right from the start of Umibe it was never the 'young guy meets older guy, they have nonconsensual sex and call it a relationship' plot, which is a rare thing among BL works.)
