This was one of my favorites for the Spring 2018 season. I was pulled in from episode 1 by the very nice animation, and the pretty and clean art style of it. Add the subtle and sweet music and I realized this is going to be a fantastic show to watch whenever I feel like winding down. That happens to be what it's meant for. It even aired every Wednesday, making me even more mentally prepared to take things slooow.
Unfortunately, it can be too slow, making it awfully boring. I mean, really, really boring. But I still liked watching the characters interact with each other
...
in the funniest ways, and also meeting customers with pretty interesting backstories. Oh, and we cannot forget the delicious looking food in every episode.
In all, it only really lacks in plot. Everything else is great. My favorite parts were usually among the guys running the shop, usually whenever they were fooling around or bickering. It is a wholesome, decent watch. But alas, I'm sure that I'll forget about it, only to years from now vaguely remember watching it.

You know what I love about sports anime? The way they make you want to get up dedicate your life to something as you're watching them (at least the really good ones do). "Cheer Danshi!!" does that. As I was watching it, I really found myself wanting to do EVERYTHING they were doing. I thought, "man, I want to learn how to do a handstand! I want to cartwheel!" I even felt like wanting to do planks!--which they do in order to gain that core strength they need for tumbling around everywhere and holding people up. Speaking of tumbling, that's probably the only thing I
...
did NOT want to do because I knew I could never. Lol.
Aside from making me want to do stuff, this show is h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s. Like, laugh out loud hilarious. But wait. I have a confession.
I watched it English dubbed. (Gasp!)
So I can't speak for the original Japanese version of it. But about the way the English dialogue is written I'm 100% sure that the translations are not direct translations. They're very localized, and I say this because I'm pretty sure that Wataru didn't actually say that he has "white boy rhythm" in the Japanese dub (he really said that in the English version and I about cried laughing because of it). So, I think the localization worked in this anime's favor because it wouldn't have been anywhere near as funny as I had found it to be in English. With that being said, I recommend it be watched in English if you don't speak Japanese and English is your native language.
So humor is possibly its biggest strength. What follows would be the characters which really drive the story. The characters are very strong and distinct and I enjoyed seeing how they interacted with each other, how they had to work together as a team, and how they had to overcome their own obstacles. Each character had at least one sole obstacle they had to overcome. Unfortunately, this anime is overall very rushed, which really killed the character score. The reason is because all of a sudden, like a dozen characters popped up at once and I found myself completely overwhelmed. I'm sorry, but that is NEVER an okay thing to do--at least not in my book. No one appreciates it when you shove a million characters into the story all at once; it's confusing. It really started to feel disjointed once that happened, and I had trouble connecting with any of the newbies. halfway through, it just gets really messy which sucks because of how much I enjoyed the first half. I honestly wish they would've tried to split it into two seasons. I'm sure that would've have been better for the anime.
In all, it's a very enjoyable show that really rushed its way through at the end, but it was still enjoyable, it made me feel good, and it gave me lots of laughs.

Right off the bat are two reasons to watch it. The animation at first glance, and then learning of the studio behind it.
Ladies and gentlemen, you will not be disappointed.
Unless you expected a sunshine and rainbows romantic tale, or super cool fighting anime with powers, or even a suspenseful, long, ongoing high scale murder case. Then you will be disappointed watching this.
It's a bit of a ride. Not a bumpy, suspenseful, or action packed kind of ride, but a long, mellow, really sad kind of ride that you want to have tissues prepared with. But the ending wraps it up in a nice and
...
neat bow for you and sends you back home with a feeling of satisfaction like, yes, I watched that, and I'm glad I did.
The art is amazing. Do I need to say more about that? Can't we all see that? Isn't that why most of us decided to watch it in the first place? Also, this is a style of art most of us recognize. Kyoto animation has really solidified their place in anime with their own style of art. It just gets better with time. I especially noticed how the characters would have the color of the scene being reflected off of them, which I found to be a really cool take on incorporating reflective light without being too complicated. It helps harmonize all of the colors as a whole and adds depth.
Next, we have one of my favorite categories besides art: the music. Throughout the whole show we are showered with thick, flowing orchestral music that one might recall hearing more in old Disney films. Music as beautiful as this is always a pleasure to be able to experience when watching anime for me. It's great to know how consistent this anime is, by keeping the style and music beautifully calm and somber.
Now, I want to mention something about the story. I must be honest with you. The pacing in the very beginning is awfully slow, but I feel as if it is necessary. My attention span honestly just sucks sometimes, but it didn't stop me. I said to myself, before me is a masterpiece and I will not let a mildly boring set up get the best of me, as I advise everyone else to also say the same. Once Violet is set up with her new career, the story takes off and we are taken on beautiful emotional journeys. I enjoyed each and every one of those journeys that not only changed Violet a little more each time, but planted the seeds of development in everyone that she met.
Overall, this show has taken a special place in my heart. It was a pleasure to watch, and I'm glad I picked it up and stuck with it without squinting my eyes in malice trying to find everything that is wrong with it just to spite everyone who is hyping it up.

Like most of the reviews I have seen for this show, I was utterly shocked to see the overall rating for it: a six.
To me, that is too low for a series as great as this. I am someone who is not usually into history, but I enjoy this show. The story is so intriguing that I believe anyone can find enjoyment as well if you stick with is. Do not stop at the first couple of episodes. Keep watching and you won't regret it.
Unfortunately, I feel as though the animation really lacks. The art itself is great, as far as style and design.
...
As someone who is in love with character designs in general, seeing previews of this anime was enough for me to check it out. So much detail went into the characters clothes and the architecture and scenery. It seems as though the animation suffered a bit due to that, sometimes looking a little cheap. Luckily, it is something I can overlook because the designs are so brilliant, as with the rest of the anime.
Again, I knew not a single thing about the historical setting this story is placed in. Usually, I would be bored by this type of historical setting. While it can feel like a lot of information for me personally, I still manage to keep up and understand what is going on.
I'm glad I didn't overlook this great anime.
