Characters trying to achieve their dreams with the help of their friends, there's also some romance on the side of each. Also even though Bakuman isn't a sports anime, it has a lot of features particular to the genre, except games are called deadlines.

Satoshi Kon, similar visuals and both have an amazing soundtrack. Similar atmosphere, both portray a merging of the surreal with the real.

While these shows are very different (Mawaru Penguindrum is more 'fluffy'), they both make effective use of symbolism (with some of it, in both cases, revolving around religion) and explore meanings of both love and sacrifice. However, the characters in NGE are more believable and their insecurities are explored i a much more detailed level.

Despite the fact that plot wise these two shows aren't very similar, they still resemble one another. Both shows feature adults, rather than children or teenagers. Hei also reminds me a bit of Firo, in the sense that they can both keep their calm and both are skillful at their speciality. There's also a certain amount of supernatural in both series and both are aimed at older audiences.

The whole atmosphere of the show is very similar and so is the humor. They're both very carefree and easy to rewatch. They also feature a similar kind of romance - starts out as friendship. Also, the main heroines are both very similar, rather quiet and intelligent. Although Haruhi seems more reserved at times.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

At first, both may appear for younger audiences, but soon you discover there is more to them. They both have a darker take on mahou shoujo anime and both deal mainly with the problems the main heroine encounters, instead of her bonding with her friends and defeating her enemies. Madoka is more action and the pace is much faster, while Princess Tutu has a very calm atmosphere to it.
