I think this has become an objectively bad anime, and that is really too bad. The story is pretty cool and has so much potential to be a great anime, but it’s just not. First 3 episodes were pretty good, but the 4th episode took a horrible turn and left almost no room to recover. Pacing, gone. Story, gone. Consistency, gone. Combat quality, gone. Decent dialogue, gone. Music, poor. Art was always meh.
The first episode or two generally showed good effort in telling the story and putting life to the characters, after those episodes though there’s nothing to redeem the bad anime that this
...
becomes. I have read the first couple volumes of the LN as well and I don’t believe I’ve seen another anime that strayed so far from the source material in such a short amount of time.
I want to like this anime, but I can’t. As I said, I think this is objectively bad. Bad as a portrayal of the source material, as a story, and as a culmination of video and audio art. None of the show fits together nicely with any other part of the show. You might be able to grab a scene or two and separate it from the rest of the anime to make it look good, but put together this might be the worst anime I’ve seen even though I really want to like it. The story is cool, there’s so much they could do, but this is just a bad anime.

This show honestly surprised me, in a good way. The story was fun, surprisingly realistic (for an isekai or sorta-isekai), and it didn't follow all the tropes (yay!). There were a lot of things done in this story that I have not seen portrayed anywhere else in anime, and that originality made this so much more enjoyable. The art might be lacking some, but a solid story is present with plenty of comedy and thoughtfulness. The realistic choices and reactions by characters are such a relief in the OP-MC Isekai story and for that alone this makes the show worth a watch within the genre.
Hopefully
...
this story gets more followup but even if it doesn't, this season ended on a good note. Closed up the important parts of the story and opened the ability to add so much more.

The premise is really quite simple. An "ice" guy meets this girl who helps him on his way to his first day at a new job. Surprise, she also is starting her new job at the same place. Ensue romance.
There's nothing that really stands out as being bad about this anime, but that doesn't mean it should qualify as "good". It has it's cute moments and I really liked that we got another romance among adults, but it's really just an ok romance. I appreciated that there was essentially no drama and they really only focused on the romance and some of the emotion part
...
of this story.
The characters are the best part about this show, but it kindof feels like we've only had some superficial character writing and development. There are parts of the characters that are really cute and make the show somewhat worthwhile, but nothing about their personalities or really any part of their stories is anything special.
Pacing is fine, about what you expect in this genre. Animation was a little lackluster, without looking I would assume this story is based on a LN just based on the animation and character designs and that's really how this comes across. Audio was just kinda meh, super forgettable in VA and music.
So. Characters: 7/10. Pace: 5/10. Animation: 4/10. Audio 4/10. Enjoyment: 7/10. Overall: 6/10. I rounded up to an overall of 6 because I like the snowmen but really this anime is just average.
This is the kindof story where I really would rather just read a cliff-notes/spark-notes version that would probably be identical to 70% of romance stories anyways.

This show became a great Isekai by the end of the season. It’s hard to say it was very good in the beginning. At about the halfway mark I would’ve been comfortable giving it only a 5 due to pacing, approach to characters, and seemingly disjointed storytelling. However, in the second half of the season there was a drastic improvement in each of those areas of concern. By the end there were no real deficiencies and this became a show that is worth getting excited about if we get another season.
The writers/producers made sure the show never took itself too seriously, making plenty of
...
penis jokes and references, even making a whole episode about a penis. It poked fun at social media/streaming/reality TV. But it did those things and still gave you a fairly legit story in the Isekai genre. Isekai is by no means my favorite genre, but I’ve seen quite a few now and I’d have to say this is one of the better ones out there. I definitely recommend though be wary the first half of the season is difficult.

By no means is this a perfect anime or perfect rom-com but it is a very good one. The best thing I can say about Tomo-chan is that there is no real deficiency. All the characters were either good or great, art was modern and perfectly reasonable, plot elements while sometimes cliche were also very fitting, and the intro/out music was decent. Definitely the best parts are the characters. All the parental characters we see are S tier, our MC is A tier, the two friends as a duo are amazing, and most of the other supporting cast members were A/B tier.
The plot is also
...
pretty linear, doesn't really play around with you which has been a nice change of pace from other shows in this genre. While the author may be a masochist or dommy-mommy fetishist, there was a lot of thought put into the emotional states of the characters. And again, the plot continues with a pretty consistent and appropriate tempo.
Good anime, maybe even a great anime. I highly recommend to viewers of this genre who I believe will all enjoy the humor, appreciate the characters, and be content with the outcomes as they develop.

I have debated my score for this over and over again. I'm going to lean on a more generous score than maybe some believe this deserves, but I personally think the average should sit around 7.6-7.8 (7.2 at time of writing). My review will seem pretty scattered but please enjoy nonetheless.
This show has so many good things going for it. I'll admit, I watched it because of Zero Two without knowing much else about the contents of this show. This show honestly surprised me. There are many comparisons to shows like SAO or NGE and while those have some validity in other aspects, I
...
would say DitF is a much more complete show, and just because of that I would say it's better than either of those. I loved many of the characters and I felt pretty attached to several of them. Even some of the 'worst' characters of the show had some form of development or redemption (minus the real antagonists). I'm also pretty satisfied with the ending, which is almost always where I have the most issue with other shows.
ok I'm going to try and breakdown the score...
Story: 7/8
I think lots of viewers got lost with the story, and I don't really blame them. This show could've had better direction and I think that's partially the fault of not really have source material. Pacing at times struggled but I never really felt like the story ever stopped, and as stated earlier this is one of the most complete anime I think I've seen. I think there's still plenty of information given throughout and if you're willing to read 10 minutes from the wiki, you'll be able to make all the connections you need to see and understand the full story.
Characters: 9
I loved the characters. Of course Zero Two will always be the most memorable but all of our Squad 13 members (except maybe Miku) are great characters. I point at Miku because she was the most lackluster character who provided very little to the story, sadly. I also know many think poorly of Kokoro but if you can recognize all of the kids are victims of circumstance, I can't really put any blame on her for her decisions but those decisions also greatly impact the world they're in so big thumbs up from me. Supporting characters were also pretty well thought out and many of them were given real helpful background stories. I loved that about this show.
Art: 7/8
Pretty good art. Many of the designs are kinda stolen from other shows, but they're not extreme in any way which allows the viewer to focus on the story.
Enjoyment: 9
As mentioned earlier, the pacing was pretty good. I think the show is actually at is best between ep 12-16 in terms of enjoyment and probably in terms of development. I think some of the show feels like it's almost forcing the idea of sex on us a bit too much which is why I knocked this down a point but otherwise there is a lot of fun to be had, there is a lot of emotion to be had at various points, and I think there will be plenty to be remembered of this show.
Highly recommend watching this anime. I think it should be in a "must watch" category for anyone watching more than handful of anime in their life.

I'm going to try and write a short one without spoilers. This movie did a few things well, and I quite liked the story and the message it delivers. It does however lack seriously in character development outside of the two MCs, like seriously lacks. It was only so apparent because it seemed like they were setting up several other characters to have their own great stories or developments and then basically did nothing with any of them. It left a few characters fairly open ended as the story progresses which is also pretty disappointing. We spend enough time with them to grow some attachment
...
and then literally never see them again and no one really seems to care.
I came to this movie becuase I kindof like 'tear-jerker' movies and shows but this really didn't hit the way I thought it would. I got a little watery eyed but no real tears and it honestly left me wondering "why?" over and over again.
Art style is meh, not a fan. The world it's set in is kinda cool. There are some elements relating to abuse, suicide, and manipulation that felt honestly a little innapropriate for the movie (these were NOT the focus in any way of the movie, just elements thrown in there a tiny bit).
I still liked it and recommend it, hence the 7/10 rating, but I wouldn't bash anyone for rating it lower though I would be concerned about any opinions that gave it a higher rating.

Oh where to go with this review.... I have never been so frustrated by an anime as I have been with this one. An explanation for my score though is worthwhile. This anime is absolutely wonderful as a slice-of-life anime with romantic overtones from episode 1 to about episode 23. The last two episodes however.... horrendous. If you thought NGE had a confusing last two episodes then this will feel right on the same path. Honestly the show up till ep 24 was probably a solid 8 and is the only reason I didn't rate this at 3 or less. The last two episodes, however,
...
just felt like a whole different pace with lots of sudden and poorly explained choices by the main characters and then it honestly left the ending way too open for my liking. It was too bad, even if it was fairly predictable a completed ending would have been nice. I won't get too into it as I don't want to include spoilers but I would say only one of the ~5 most prominent characters actually had an a conclusion to their story. One of five is NOT good.
I've seen some other reviews that highlight the overall flow of the show but if you can get over the fact that the plot doesn't really move along for about 3 or 4 episodes in the middle (still fun to watch) then this show is a great watch up till that ep 24 mark. If you're cool dropping the anime there and just reading fanfic to finish the story then by all means go for that and you might avoid the anger I feel about the ending.

Ok there are a lot of negative reviews that I'm frankly quite surprised by. Some of it I understand where people are coming from. The deaf girl does end up falling for our MC, her childhood bully. BUT let's look at the bigger picture though of events...
Deaf girl understood she didn't fit in but very actively tried to be friends with everyone, her bullies included (which turns out to be most of her class). That leads to her being very apologetic and forgiving but does open herself to continued abuse as we see it in the first 30ish minutes of the movie. Fast forward to
...
highschool, MC has changed a fair bit, has isolated himself from everyone and even plans his own 'un-aliving' event while trying to come to terms with his frankly miserable life in the aftermath of his bullying (about 5~6 years after the events first shown). As part of his ritual to end things, he seeks some amends with the deaf girl he brought such harm to. In all this time he has come to realize though that she wanted to be friends and so MC reconsiders the position and figures why not try and be her friend. Deaf girl is pretty forgiving as we saw in the first part but it seems she may have had other feelings bottled in anyways, this isn't really explained though and is what I consider the biggest issue in the movie, not that she falls for MC but that we aren't given a reason why she feels that way or even a clear hint of it early.
This is what most people are getting upset over. There is something very very important to note that I think requires just a little more thought than most reviewers are willing to give on the issue. Change and growth (for the better) is about the single most important thing in finding someone you want to be with. Period. That's the story. That's why she loves the MC, and it's the obvious purpose behind the story. Change and growth, learning to love oneself and love others, that is why MC and deaf girl end up like they do and this is how the story ends. Both characters learn to care for themselves after both dealing with serious depressive episodes, they learn of their support networks, and they learn they can be a part of the support network for others. It is very well depicted and is the reason I believe the film deserves a score of 9. As I said, there's an obvious hole, but overall the message is clear and powerful, characters are pretty decent, art is great, music is good. I was emotionally invested nearly the entire film and it wasn't completely predictable which I appreciated.
