Truth be told, I did not like the anime.
It has really poor animation when there's any animation on screen, bad pacing and a character that dows not speak ever, but are show often as if we were supposed to care for them.
the MC is bland and his love interest is blander still. The interesting parts are with the secondary couple, and the anime follows them more often than the main couple.
The thing is, it's a strong premise - it has a great idea but couldn't handle it. The drama between the two MCs is strong and should have been front and center - I
...
would love to watch an anime that actually ran with that idea and did it right.
As it is, it's mediocre and barely watchable. It's predictable, it's downright ugly to watch sometimes. But it had SO MUCH potential, so many great concepts that were awfully executed.

I must admit I was surprised with the length of most reviews for this anime. I decided to review it because I was looking for Romance anime to watch, and this one popped up. This is not a romantic anime, this is the very opposite: an anti-romantic anime.
I love romantic comedies because they make me hope for a world that does not exist, but it would be amazing if it did. But you see, people are complex beings. One could summarize it by saying that people are trash. the long story is people are selfish, they want to be loved, they want to pursue their
...
hedonistic pleasures and so on. Some people are better at controlling these urges than others, and as we grow older, it gets easier. Teens in general are stuck in a sort of limbo where they are kind of like adults and kind of like children, and these selfish antics are to be expected.
I can relate to most of the characters on this anime. My teenage years were full of mistakes and I have indeed hurt many people who cared about me, as I was hurt by people I cared about. With some I managed to make amends, with others not quite.
Kuzo no Honkai is about those mistakes, about sexual discovery and self-interest and, most importantly, trying hard to fill a hole in one's soul. Unfortunately, the more you try to patch it up with meaningless physical contact, the wider it gets. Being self-destructive is addictive. I know it is weird to phrase it like that, but it is a lot easier to fuck up than to actually take the time to rebuild meaningful relationships. Once you start feeling sorry for yourself, the spiral just drags you downward and you just go on for the ride. It is only when we lose something of real importance that we may stop and ponder and see what the fuck we are doing with our lives and to those around us.
Therefore, this anime is not about a boy and a girl shily trying to hold hands for the first time with fluttering stomachs and awkward happiness. It's about people using sex as a band aid to try and patch up their bleeding hearts and the huge mess that blood makes all over. It is a beautiful anime about a very ugly subject, and I absolutely loved it. It's honest and its realistic, as far as my own life experiences tell me.
If you have ever hurt someone ever in your life, this one may help you deal with that. If you have never done anything selfish and dumb in your whole life, give this one a pass as it is really fucked up, and you might get a clue of what the world is really about.

I just couldn't stop. I fell in love with Mori Mori as soon as I saw her dump the flowers. Her reactions are much more organic and realistic than the usual fare we have in anime. She is not a girl, she is a woman, a deeply broken and hurt woman who feels lonely and depressed. That's what moves her to find misfits amongst whom she may find some sense of belonging.
Having recovered from a very deep MMO addiction, I understand her motives and can relate to them on a personal level. Having also battled depression and the urge to become a sort of
...
hickokimori, I know how painful it was for her to move on and find strength to meet people IRL.
The heavy theme is nicely done without losing the sense of humour. The story is not the most original, and the twist is well telegraphed from the begining, but that was not the point. Beneath all the layers, it's a rom-com of two people who have known each other forever and deeply care for each other.
It's fun, it's mature (not in terms of echhi or violence, but rather in tackling real grown up issues of real grown ups). Here's to hoping the author gets better and we can have some more of this wonderful, clean and fun story.

Clean and wholesome fun for the family. Not a tear jerker, but it got a few tears out of me.
Main character reminds me of Ore-sama Chiacki from Nodame Cantabile, but his evoluton arc is clear and nice.
his arrogance is deeply rooted in his insecurities, and they seem to try and put it all onto his relationship with his dad.
What steals the show is the support cast, their quirks and the way they really seem to support and enjoy the MC.
I loved the beautiful nods to the culture and, having been watching 3-Gatsu no Lion, comparing both versions of the Obon festival was a
...
treat.
This anime tells a beautiful story of growth and friendship and learning what is trully valuable in one's life. A fun, clean watch and one I'd recommend to anyone who wants to see some sweet slice of life dramedy.

This story touches ever so slightly on a theme that is personal to me. I've once been diagnosed with depression and that time was very difficult for me and those around me. I have since made a full recovery more than 10 years ago, but I still must face the concequences of those tough times.
Orange shows fairly well what depression is, not a state of constant sadness in which one isolates from the world, but rather a deep seated feeling of self hatred and the complete inability of forgiving oneself. I do not mean that there are not cases of isolation and that hickikimoris
...
are not depressed, but rather want to state that there are different types of depression and that a clinically depressed person may function well in society for a while.
Cases such as these are dangerous because people will not necessarily understand that one is depressed until the feelings drive that person to suicide. I have been there, I have conteplated suicide. A part of why I managed not to do something regretful was beacause I had already witnessed what a suicide can do to a family and friends.
Orange is about that. It is about regrets andthe inability of some people to forgive themselves, and how that can drive one to depression and further. It is a beautiful story, though sometimes I wish things would happen a little faster. But that is me, tired of some tropes, really.
I liked that they show depression as something normal; that the depressed may well smile and have fun with friends at one time and than be strange the next day. They do a good job of showing how one can be depressed and nobody around them know. It also shows that family and friends support is required in order to get back up once again. My main complaint is that they don't name drop depression and that they did not recommend that the depressed boy seek medical help - you should ALWAYS seek help if you suspect yourself to be depressed. But the depiction of depression was spot on and it was very respectful.

Macross sparkeed the love I have for anime, so do forgive me my bias. I have watched it countless times on TV as a kid back when it was known as Robotech, than watched it as Macross once when I was 16. Finally, I watched it again after I turned 35, and with that I suppose I can make a fair acessment of the real quality it has to offer.
Macross is a product of it's time and has not aged very ellegantly. I do prefer it over the movie (Do you remember love) when it comes to the story, but in all other counts the
...
movie is the superior version.
All the characters are very dear to me and I still have the feels whenever I have anything with pineapples. What I mean by that is that all characters, and there are loads of them, have their time to shine and have some depth to them, even the three Zentraedy spies.
This was also my first Love Triangle and the very first romance story I watched and the very first battle for best girl (Hayase), though let's face it, Milia is a close second. It has introduced me and countless others to the tropes we are now so used to, and I am grateful. It is still one of the best love stories I saw in anime - never pulling punches.
I know there are really bad episodes and the art is - by today's standards sub-par - but it will always be one of the best animes I've ever seen

This is a wonderful take on the Mahou Shoujo concept - plus a tournament arc!
The story follows a group of girls who dream of being super stars, their rivalries and friendship as they quite literally fight tooth and nail in order to being choses the Top Star. The show does a good job at showing how each girl feels towards their peers and how these emotions influence how they act and why they fight.
Behind the top layer of slice of life the anime brings great fight coreaography with amazing music and stunning visuals. The story has similar beats to Madoka, though it is different
...
enough that you will not feel like you've seen that all already. Giraffes are better than fluffballs sociopaths anyday.
It has a lot of energy, nice characters and enough shoujo ai beteween the lines to please anyone without gratuitous fan-service. It's cute, its crazy and a whole lot of fun.

Violet Evergarden is a sad anime - it deals with comlplex and difficult themes and if you can relate to them, you will most likely cry your eyes out. I know I did.
What I didn't see much in all the reviews I've read is the constant theme of mourning. Throughout the anime we see the many forms of mourning there are. Mourning the death of a parent, of a child, of a loved one. There is also the mouring for what could have been and what isn't. This anime deals with aspects of mourning such as the guilt of having survived and the reevaluation of one's
...
self worth through the lense of being alive after someone you love have passed away.
It is also an anime about healing. The whole concept of the letters as a way to express grief and love is about the healing process - about expressing one's feelings so as to set one free.
I do know the story is not anything new, I do know Violet is a blank slate. But that is the purpose of it - to experience the pain of loss and then recover from it.Everybody loses someone they love, and they all must cope and musto live on.
The visuals are breathtaking and the pace of the story is slow, but that has a purpose - to be there in order to allow for contemplation, to allow for pondering.
I did love Violet Evergarden, not despite the fact that it made me suffer, but rather because of it. It has brought up many feelings I had bottled up, and made me look at the painful experiences of my own life in a different light.
