You know when a mediocre video game gets made into a bad anime adaptation? That's the best way to describe Ars no Kyojuu.
Everything from the characters, setting, plot and bad guys just screams "bad anime adaptation of a video game" and yet... it isn't, from everything I can tell it's an original series that just FEELS like a bad adaptation of a video game in every way possible.
The story makes little to no sense most of the time and the world building wants to be expansive but ends up minimal at best, as if there's supposed to be a source material out there filling

Looking for a good ecchi fantasy series? Then maybe look somewhere else, because there are plenty of good shows out there that do better with both without being just so horribly dull as this show.
The art and voice talent aren't bad it's just that the story so far is just so horribly stupid and boring. The MC is a whiny pushover who is both the strongest/smartest in his class but still the underdog because of the one class he was failing. An interesting concept for a series that ended up almost entirely squandered.
The entire series so far can be described by the old saying "a mile wide but an inch deep". The majority of each episode is dedicated to introducing a new team of almost entirely two dimensional side characters and then pushing them aside for the next team, and then the next, and then the next and then the next. Maybe the manga is ongoing enough for all of these character introductions to pay off in the end but for an anime series it just ends up making it feel more like a cheap gacha ... |
