One of the last few traditional animation hentai before everything went digital. Even though the art is often beautiful and full of details (impressive for this genre), it looks like it was made in 1997 or something instead of 2000. Which is right for me though; I really love the style and character design, even if it looks a bit generic. There is just not enough 90's anime to scratch the itch.

The story is good enough to keep you entertained and you'll probably be wanting for more after the unexplained, unexpected ending of episode 2. Also, tentacles, but sex scenes are mostly short anyway. Some ... effort was put into the background music, which is refreshing. Not much else to say. Just a good, above average hentai of the late 90's. Nostalgic, fun, and pleasant.

By 2005, the hentai-with-a-story genre was pretty much dead already. You'll only find mindless porn scenes, just intended for self-pleasure. Hininden is a surprising exception to this fact, although it obviously contains sex scenes too, along with funny scenes and above average character designs.
It is great to see some production value destined to improving animation and graphics quality, but apparently this lead to Pink Pineapple having financial trouble, since it didn't sell well. As expected, this single episode pilot was sadly canceled and unfinished, like many other hentais in the past. Before this OVA, 75% of Studio Arms catalogue also consisted of hentai-with-a-story animes, ... so they definitely had experience in this genre.
In conclusion, Hininden is an interesting, entertaining, short-lived chapter in a dying genre, which could be considered a hidden gem, and it is sad that it didn't have a recommended review until this one.

The "Injuu" hentai series has like 7 different OVAs, and they differ quite a lot between them in art style and settings, although they do share two things: schoolgirls and tentacles. I had been putting off watching them since it is one of the most repulsive genres; however, after watching and enjoying La Blue girl and Injuu Idol, I decided to give them all a watch. The conclusion is that they all suck, except for this one (kind of).

You'll probably be surprised that this consists of 4 episodes, 45 min each, which is a lot for hentai series of this era. The first one, ... definitely the best, has an interesting and mysterious plot, plus the art style is the most detailed. At times, it even looks like Shin Megami Tensei artwork... but worse (of course). I especially liked the protagonist, who is unlike any other lead compared to similar 90s hentais. This is because she is a strong, independent tomboyish girl. Pretty refreshing I must say. A particular thing about this OVA is that it contains mostly yuri scenes (besides the tentacles), which is also quite uncommon.

The other 3 episodes are connected in a somewhat weird way: the 2nd and 3rd episodes take place at different times at the same school, and for the 4th episode, characters of both chapters appear together. Unfortunately, this piece of trivia is the most interesting thing about them. They are just mediocre overall. Not bad, but only slightly entertaining. They play like horror stories with occasional comedic relief.

Except for the first episode, I'd only recommend the others if you don't have anything else to watch. Which is sadly my case. I think I might be done with 90s hentai, as I've seen pretty much all of them (except for the Urostukidoji series, that might be a little too much for me). It's been a great journey that definitely taught me not to judge an anime by its cover or genre. Many hidden gems have been discovered and enjoyed. MAL has been an amazing source of info, and even if my reviews are amateurish, I liked writing and endlessly editing all of them. Don't have much to say about it but I'm surprised there's no review yet. Instead of tentacle/demon rape like some entries in the Injuu series, this is mostly vanilla sex, idol slice-of-life and a brief love story, which actually sounded believable. Most definitely not what I was expecting. Might be a bit boring at times, but the beautiful, detailed, classic late 90s atmosphere makes up for it. Also, amazing animation quality for a '97 hentai. I feel like they were actually showing off their skills. Good starting point of the hentai-with-a-story genre. Overall, it was a surprising OVA for me, but kind of average.

This is it. Bottom of the barrel obscurity. A TV series about Japanese slot machines from 2001. I never would have thought it would make me feel so many different emotions. It's like dirty, cheap, addictive drugs in the form of anime.

At first I just wanted to see what the hell the plot was like. It's not like slot machines are super complex; it's mostly luck as far as I know. They even question it many times during the anime, but they make it seem like you could actually win every time with enough skill. It will definitely remind you of Yugioh, but instead ... of cards it's just pressing 3 buttons on ordinary casino machines. The fact that they took the shonen formula of sports/cards anime and adapted it to this monstrosity is very surprising. Unlike Beyblade or Pokemon, they weren't trying to promote a toyline or TCG. A pachislot company actually sponsored it, so it's nothing but shameless gambling publicity. They didn't even use real-life machines, only "inspired" ones. Makes you wonder if the production cost was worth it (it wasn't).

Aired at night during the early 2000s, it's what you would expect to be on TV in Japan at that time. A low quality, almost Korean-bootleg standard, random soap opera to be watched with no lights on, lots of beer cans lying around, and full ashtray. Truly a product of its time, and something that could never ever be done again for obvious reasons. Very Japanese indeed, even though it wasn't popular at all over there. Hardly any info besides the J-Wikipedia entry. Barely any Youtube videos, with low views, and only few comments. No videogame, merch of any kind (except for an OST CD, music is actually decent, love the OP btw), or attempts at growing the IP. There is a manga series though, which this anime is based on.

While the art and animation are at first sight very... bad, they make up for it with charming characters and everyday slice-of-life situations. I originally thought it was going to be like a parody series, but no. Boring at times, painfully funny due to the deadpan delivery while idolizing or romanticizing gamblers, and some emotional situations during the last few episodes. No mention of addiction or its consequences, naturally.

So, is it good or not? I don't really know, but an anime this obscure, mediocre and specific just presses all the right buttons for me. It's not meant to be binged. You'll get tired and forget about it. But you'll come back for another dose of it. I kinda want to play pachislo now.

Yet another surprising hentai-with-a-story from the late 90s. Pretty much right before traditional animation was upgraded (or downgraded?) to digital animation. It looks really good for a hentai, actually even better that some OVAs from that period.

Although there are many characters, and half don't get much development, each of them have charming designs and different personalities. The story is fast paced and confusing at first, but not that difficult to follow. It is still a hentai though, so don't expect much; unfortunately, it is also incomplete like many others. Being demon-themed, expect gore and rape, but it still isn't super gross and over the ... top. Surprisingly, no tentacles or demon sex. Still, I'm glad they focused on the plot rather than explicit scenes, and actually integrated those in a somewhat meaningful manner to the story.

Finally, as I said before, the strong point is the drawings quality, animation and design. You will definitely notice that character's don't look too good from far away, but it is what it is. Not many other hentais can compare to it. The other reviewer complained about the music and sound effects, but I didn't notice anything wrong with them (although I don't particularly pay attention to that).

I'll give it an 8 for the effort and for my love of obscure late 90s media. This having less that 1000 members is shameful!

It honestly was better than I expected. Even though the graphics and animation look like cheap Korean knock-off quality, the story premise is somewhat interesting and it overall feels quite experimental for a hentai, due to the surreal, almost David Lynch-esque scenes. There is little plot or character development, but I guess that is expected for a single episode, 30 minute hentai. Starts off very softcore and gradually gets more BDSM. Would have liked more story than H scenes but it is what it is. If you like obscure, original, amateur 90s OVAs you might get some enjoyment out of it.

I feel like the hentai-with-a-story genre got extinct around 2002-3, so this one might be one of the last ones ever. It was really sad to find out that this is pretty much a pilot.

Even though this is from 2006, it looks like it was made around 2001 or earlier if you look at the art style. The story starts out as a comedy and gets serious midway. You get al the tropes of the genre: rape, blackmail, a nonsensical plot, stupid jokes, lolis (although no sex), violence, virgins and foursomes. Just pure freedom of creativity. Nostalgic, isn't it?

Animation was pretty decent. There ... is a short fighting scene that surprised me in that regard. Anyway, even though the story is what you would expect from a low budget hentai, it gets interesting towards the end; it's a shame that there wasn't even a 2nd episode, but understandable considering the time this was released.

After being delighted by this amazing anime series, I had decided to write a review. There were already a few that recommended it, so I forgot about it. However, I've been thinking about Maico a lot since then. It truly is the hiddenest of gems of 90s TV anime.

The episodic nature of the series allows it to have small plot-lines that are quickly forgotten, but there are many continuity details that provide style and character to the story. Also, the stars of the show are definitely the characters, some more than others, and they have stereotypes that you hardly ever see in other animes. ... They are extremely flawed too: angry, lazy, greedy, violent, bullies, anti-social, indifferent, talent-less, egoistic, unhealthy; just very toxic personalities. Maico, on the other hand, is the sweetest and most innocent character ever. The show is very funny too! The format will remind many about the The Office. During the last episodes, some of them take a serious, emotional and sad tone (Evangelion-inspired maybe?)

Art is late 90s but it clearly isn't top quality; it has a sort of amateur doujin feeling to it, which I kind of like as it is representative of its era. Additionally, most of the backgrounds are CG designed, that will definitely remind you of many PS1 games. It's a pretty unique detail. Overall, the popularity and production quality of the real-life show is ironically similar to the radio show that they work at.

I usually don't write about the music in animes, but both the OP and ED feel surprisingly nostalgic for some reason.

I'm not a huge fan of TV anime; I prefer OVAs by far, but Maico and the cast managed to be entertaining enough for 24 episodes. Only one or two felt somewhat boring, but that happens in every show ever.

I've probably watched more than fifty 90s-hentai OVAs now, and I have to say, this is the most unhinged and batshit crazy one (so far). Also, it might be the most comedy-oriented one. Still, 40% of it consists of sex scenes, which somehow manage to be funny most of the time.

There are countless references to Japanese culture, old anime, jokes and puns. You probably won't get most of them unless you are from Japan or just a hardcore otaku. This is obviously seldom pleasant, but personally, I still appreciate media specifically made for the JDM. This OVA was based on a H-PC-game, like many others ... from this era, which makes it even more Japanese-y.

AND the ending theme is surprisingly good; very high quality for a hentai game. I wonder how the producers managed to convince the singer, who apparently is quite popular for his tokusatsu songs. Can this get even more Japanese?

Anyway, you know how it goes, the story is just whatever. Art is very representative of its era (2000-02), which is the beginning of computer-based graphics as opposed to the hand drawn art of the 90s. Sometimes the characters look deformed or "glitchy", which is a trait that you'll see on many low-budget titles of that period. I have to admit that it has a certain charm to it.

Overall, an incredibly unique H-comedy, in all of its aspects. Not particularly good, but unique nonetheless.

Before you watch it, I must warn you that the last 10~ minutes of the 2nd chapter don't have any subtitles; at the moment of writing this, I couldn't find any other English subs available. There are complete Spanish subtitles, though.
