DRRR takes place in one of the liveliest places you'll ever see in anime - Ikebukuro. There's always something going on in this show. Be it a gang fight between the different color gangs (Yellow Scarves, Blue Squares etc.), the headless ''Black Rider'' haunting the town, Izaya trolling different people and much more. Are you wondering why I referenced Gintama in the beginning? Well, the reason for that is because like Gintama, DRRR is a very character driven show. You've got a guy named Izaya who likes trolling people a lot in horrible ways, the bartender Shizuo who hates violence yet always wrecks shit around ... the city and wants to kill Izaya, the charismatic Kida and his friend Mikado who is more than meets the eye, the headless ''Black Rider'' Celty I mentioned above and other interesting individuals. Heck, there's even a black Russian selling sushi in Japan. Also, like Gintama, there are quite a lot lol worthy scenes and a mixture of epic and hilarious scenes (the infamous undressing punch). DRRR also references a lot of different anime which gives a very pleasing feeling if you've watched any of the shows it references. The visuals are quite impressive and so is the soundtrack. It's got a jazz + city feel which fits the anime perfectly. Also, this anime is a voice actor heaven, so chances are your favourite VAs are voicing someone in the anime.
Also, don't expect a lot of action from the show, as it is quite dialogue heavy, but interesting nonetheless.
Highly recommended for fans of/watch these shows if you like Durarara: Gintama, Baccano (same creator, same feel with a 1930s setting in Chicago), Darker Than Black (urban settings), Higashi no Eden, Samurai Champloo

Before I start, I must point something out. If you're expecting something like Kuroko no Basket with Zone, 100% accuracy shooting, perfect copy and other supernatural powers, stop reading right now, because it has none of that. Also, SD focuses more on the whole team, rather than just 2 characters (Kuroko and Kagami). Now, onto the recommendation.
The story follows Sakuragi Hanamichi, a delinquent who is in love with a girl named Haruko and wants to impress her in some way, so he decides to join the basketball club. That was his initial reason for joining, but he gradually develops a love for the sport and ... starts working harder than anyone else. Starting off from the very basics like dribbling, lay ups and defense, slowly gaining experience, you can see him improving with every match that passes.
The art looks rather simple at first, but improves after some time. The matches in particular, are really well drawn. Shots, dunks, passes, player movements - everything is drawn in a way you'd understand what's going on.
The characters is probably the strongest point of this manga. Sakuragi is one of the most well-developed main characters I've seen in all of manga/anime. The same can be said for the rest of Shohoku's team members. Heck even the rival teams are so well-developed, you would have a problem chosing who to cheer for. My favourite non-Shohoku character is Ryonan's ace - Sendoh. He is such an amusing and fun character that you just can't help but love.
As a sport manga, it's really beginner friendly. Even if you don't know much about basketball, this manga will teach you everything about the sport. From the basics like how to dribble, how to shoot a ball correctly, passing, to advanced skills like how to grab a rebound successfully, how to screen-out and set up screens, how to avoid the different kinds of fouls (double dribble, travelling, pushing and so on) and to use fouls to your advantage. Speaking of fouls, there are a lot of them in this manga, unlike in Kuroko no Basket where there was barely any contact between the players. If you get 5 fouls, you leave the game. Fouls bring more tension into the matches (which are already intense enough) and makes them more enjoyable. When the players are tired, they are tired. What I mean by that is that their movements slow down, shooting percentage goes down and the players become more vulnerable to mistakes. This is what realism is.
I also have to mention the final game (don't worry, I'm not gonna spoil it). This manga probably has the best final game ever. It hit all the right points and it was so damny emotional. I was barely holding my tears in the last 4-5 chapters of the last game and I doubt any other sports manga can make me even tear up like this.
Slam Dunk is the closest thing you'll get to a realistic basketball series. I also have to mention the humor. The humor in this manga is pure gold. I dare say it's near Gintama's humor level. It also references some things from real life, mostly from NBA. That is something rarely seen among anime/manga.
Highly recommended for fans of: Hajime no Ippo (it's like its basketball equivalent), Kuroko no Basket (I love Kuroko, but KnB fans must feel the greatness of this manga), Haikyuu and sport fans as a whole.
I also recommend this manga to people who want to get into basketball. This one will surely help you with your basketball studies.

Samurai Champloo is a one of a kind gem.

Story 10/10

Samurai Champloo is about the amazing journey of Mugen, Jin and Fuu to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers.But it doesn't end just there.Along the way they face different problems which, they need to solve.Thare are different events in the anime from a graffiti battle to an epic baseball game.You're in for a hell of a journey.

Art 9/10

The art is just amazing for such an old anime.Characters are drawn with a style that fits the Samurai Era.The landscapes and structures are amazingly well drawn as ... well.The only downside was that some minor characters's art style was kinda weird.

Sound 10/10

This is where the anime shines the most.If you're a fan of hip-hop and rap music, then you'll definitely love Samurai Champloo's soundtrack.Every single track fits the scenes they are played in.From intense battle tracks to relaxing and cool tracks.But it doesn't end here just yet.There are also heartwarming tracks which are played during emotional scenes.The fighting sounds are also amazing.The sword attacks sound so realistic, and so do other weapons such as guns,scythes and spears.

Characters 10/10

This is also one of the strongest aspects of the anime.

Jin is a calm and quiet type kind of guy, who is intelligent and looks like what you expect from a samurai.He is also extremely strong in kenjutsu. During battles he always keeps his cool and always fights with honor.

Mugen on the other hand is the complete opposite of Jin. He doesn't know restraint and his recklessness knows no bounds.Unlike Jin, Mugen style of the sword is messy, but that doesn't stop him from being one of the most badass samurai ever in anime.He also doesn't obey the orders of anyone. Mugen only seeks battles with strong opponents.

Fuu is the girl that formed the team.She is very determined and doesn't let anything stop her from achieving her goal. She is also a monster when it comes to eating.

There are also many other interesting characters in the series with their own stories and reasons.

Enjoyment 10/10

The action in Samurai Champloo is one of the best I've seen. Sword fights are so realistic, that you'll want to see more and more of it.The atmosphere is also extraordinary, because who doesn't love Japan during its Samurai Era ?
Even though the ending didn't satisfy some people, it most certainly satisfied me.Samurai Champloo is at it's best balancing the comedy and the seriousness in the anime.

Final Comments

I highly recommend this anime to people who love samurai and who love the action genre as a whole. I guarantee you, you won't be disappointed!
I also recommend watching the English Dub version of the anime, since characters sound better than in the Japanese Dub version.
