Dandadan is a manga about supernatural stuff blended with a very juvenile and contemporary sense of humor,.with no pretentions of improving the typical arc formula of every shounen manga ever made. The cast has charisma, with every character having a unique role that, according to their attributes, may define how the plot is moving. Their bounds and chemistry are one of the best planned aspects from the author's wild imagination, alongside with very memorable designs and color schemes.
Nevertheless, you may notice how sometimes, this newly introduced characters work like a plot armor for the protagonists. Take for instance, the time that Reiko Kashima showed up
...
at the very last minute and saved the day with her powers without affecting any one of the mains, being an antagonist for them herself.
The story offers a wide variety of situations, with each one happening right after another, resulting in a mix of ideas that works to make the protagonists approach their goals. But also deriving in a poor character development for most of them, being Aira and Turbo Baba the only ones having a remarkable maturity, with the rest just being the same ones they where since chapter 1. This issue affects how every arc is perceived, deriving in a general feeling that nothing really happens because of how nothing has tangible consequences besides just including new misfits at the arc ending banquet scenes.
And the artworks are brutal. There's nothing left to say here, besides of some personal interpretation of the technique and the symbolisms of everything.
To sum up to this review, this is clearly targeted only for japanese teens and not non-japanese teens, like me (unless you are very familiar with that random tiktok sense of humor). But, you can enjoy it and read it with a critical perception, because of how well drawn and written are most of the arcs.
