high school murder mysteries except it's "who stole my friend's bike", or "how'd bro make his cacao". aside from being visually pleasing, this anime is pretty lowkey in whatever it does, maintaining a slow pace and sober atmosphere in it's story telling and character interaction. some claim it to be an exploration of interpersonal relationships and the very cognitions through which we interface with reality. I just don't see it. I don't think the anime has any deep message or story to portray other than that of two high school kids trying to be ordinary by avoiding themselves type shit, which is an interesting idea
...
in itself and through exploring this idea there might be some profound moments, I might've been moved once or twice thus far already. however these moments are few and far between, which I'd be fine with, but 80% of the air between these character defining moments are just the mmc's "bro thinks he's sherlock"-moments which I don't find very entertaining. yeah well here I am, watching a mystery anime being mad at it's mystery solving scenes like "booo show some tiddies and explosions" fudging bell.
idk man, this is a weird mix of slice of life and mystery anime while still trying to keep both feet on the ground and have it be sober and relatable to the real world, a step beyond your everyday escapist anime. even though I feel the vibe, I don't see the bigger picture, and that may be on me but that's what it is. I feel I'm excited to see where it goes, especially (if not only) for the characters and how they'll work out their lives, but idk how many hours more I can sit through the deduction mystery porn, it's a real challenge tbh.
if you don't like this you're either: keeping it insanely real, keeping it immensely fake or too busy staying on that grind to obsess over stories to the point that you're writing reviews that'll never get read.
I never found out yet tho, whether this is a real exploration of diverse themes, or just an overdramatic account of a normal dude tryna act like sherlock (while actually trying to avoid acting like sherlock hnngggg) BUT I'm leaning towards the latter because of the utter lack of emotion and real themes. I mean they touch on it, but in the end it's just a fucking mystery anime, and I don't like the genre, AND THERE YOU HAVE IT he was a hater all along who woulda guessed.
