Maybe it's because I read the manga and I've known it since it was still only a one shot, but the movie to me failed to deliver the melancholic aspects and the genuine emotions in the story and its characters. It's always rare that the delivery of someone other than the creator would exceed that of the creator's. This movie is rather a narrative movie than an interpretative one. It is a recitation of melancholy and a symbolization of human malice. What really makes this movie special is not its evidently disturbing scenes but rather its grotesque art that symbolizes the disturbing events. The characters were very repulsive and the main character, midori, seemed to never escape the cycle of hopeless events. Oh boy! sangatsu is a really loved anime so I feel like this review might get some people's eyes rolling but here I go. This review is really subjective so forgive me, even I am mad at myself for feeling like this, I really feel like maybe I missed something at the end. Although I know nothing about shogi, the slice of life in this is both very heartfelt and heartwarming. The artistic depiction of human emotions is portrayed in every frame with such beauty that makes it hard for you not to want to observe and understand what the character on screen is feeling.

I have to say that Ajin is one of the most underrated animes I have ever watched. Maybe the cause is the CGI animation that could drive people off at first but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. oh god this is my first time writing a review but oh boy this manga was hard to read so here we go. It was greatly disturbing and stressful to read. Though the psychology and the actions of the characters are somehow dull and expected, the art portrayal of every thought, every emotion of every character was beautifully delivered.
