The basic idea is similar, but the storyline is different in every way (almost). The recommendation is more like "what should i watch next?". Both are masterpieces and the stories are really unique. The charactters hook you up and dont let you get away. Once u start watching it, there is no way u wont be thinking it the next day at work! The big difference between those 2 in general is that Mirai Nikki has romance in it, and Death Note, well not even close to romance... And another difference is that in Mirai Nikki you are living it.. In Death Note u are like an observer of the story and after the the 1st half of the anime u are living it too
