I’ll start off this review by making it clear that I haven’t read the manga and knew nothing about this story when I decided to start watching the anime, therefore my opinion is purely based on the latter.
This being said, I was less than impressed with it, in fact I’m surprised that the vast majority of the reviews are positive and praise this enough to rate it with a 10… but anyway, everyone’s entitled to their opinion and here’s mine: Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii was mediocre at best. Let me break down the reasons:
Story 4/10
Knowing nothing about this anime or its characters, I must say
...
the premise was good enough to catch my eye, even though it is obvious that sotries relating to arranged marriages are nothing new, but anyway, they’re my guilty pleasure. However the story fell flat. Everything happened way too fast and everything seemed to be a BIG PLOT DEVICE to get the main two characters to fall in love with each other and I must say it was not believable at all and seemed to be quite forced.
Art 5/5
The art was mediocre, and even though it’s not so bad that it becomes an eyesore to watch, it was somehwat unconfortable. I just can’t with lazy animation and backgrounds, it’s a big no-no for me.
Also, it seemed to me that all the efforts were centered on the main two characters, Nike the princess and What’s-his-name the (Kid) King; but even so, their design was boring and I must also say that I was not impressed by the efforts to make their clothing mildly interesting.
Sound 4/5
The soundtrack was just meh… I skipped every single song in this anime, they were very annoying and the background music was very cheesy at times.
The rest was ok I guess.. nothing remarkable.
Characters 5/5
The characters were decent, at least the main two. The heroine wasn’t a damsel in distress and the King wasn’t your usual main male character, he was a kid and that fact made it somewhat interesting even though the reverse lolicon scenario bothered me. The rest of the characters were 2D, mere plot devices. And that’s all I can say for them, seriously.
Enjoyment 3/5
The episodes dragged, that’s why I dropped this anime really fast. I normally give animes a shot even when my first impression of them isn’t all that good. I at least give it the chance to present the characters, explain the main plot, etc, but when I’m halfway through the third episode of an anime with a total of 12 and I’m mind numbingly bored and constantly distracted with just about anything and I can’t even be bothered to pay attention that’s when I know for sure it’s a lost cause for me.
Overall 3/5
I really wanted to like this anime, I promise, but there were far too many flaws for me.

You have seen 55 episodes of Akatsuki no Yona
Your Review:
Akatsuki no Yona is one of my all time favorite mangas so far even though when I first picked it up my immediate thought was “this is sooo shoujo.” At first sight it basically looks like the typical manga full of lovey dovey scenes, bishounens and pretty and spoiled princesses who need constant protection from the bad guys, but I am SO pleased I was wrong.
Story 9/10
The idea is not that new to be honest, when I picked this up I had already read similar stories from Watase Yuu- sensei (Fuushigi Yuugi and Fuushigi Yuugi: Genbu
...
Kaiden) where there was the same atmosphere feel: political intrigues involving royalty, the heroines must travel around the country looking for her destined warriors.. but I never get bored of these kind of stories because there’s so much going on: politics, war, friendship, love, loyalty, drama, adventure.. This story has all my favorite ingredients and is very well told so far, with a good pace that allows proper character development and interesting subplots. It has also very funny moments, so it’s all good.
Art 10/10
It’s brilliant, clean, and the mangaka seems to be able to draw just about anything and I’m really really picky when it comes to art.
Characters 10/10
As I said at the start of this review, when I first picked Akatsuki no Yona I thought it was crawling with clichéd characters which I would end up getting fed up with, but it was a delightful surprise to find out that every single main character is consistenly growing and changing as the events of the story develop (and I must say I love the direction they’re taking.)
It’s not your usual heroine or your usual love triangle and that’s a breath of fresh air and it effectively grabs your attention.
Enjoyment 10/10
I’ve been following this manga for about 2 years now and I must say that it’s been one of the most enjoyable mangas for me to read. When I started to read it I simply couldn’t put it down until I read every single published page and I’m really glad that the anime is just as fun.
Overall 10/10
I highly recommend it! You can be shoujo fan or not, in which ever case I think you’ll enjoy it (especially after chapter 2 haha)
Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoy this manga as much as I do!

I came across this manga while looking for mangas with ninjas involved and immediately fell in love with the gorgeous art even if the story wasn't all that new.
Story 5/10
As I said, time slips are nothing new however this story had a lot of potential but all the way through it I felt it was rushed, allowing little action, the scenes were two pages long at the most, and sadly it allowed very little (if any) character development. All this meant that there were plot holes so big, you could drive a truck through them. It should have been at least twice its length
...
for the story to be told in a satisfying manner in my opinion.
Art 10/10
I'm usually very picky with the mangas I choose to read because I basically favor the art before te argument, and in Nise no Chigiri the art is absolutely gorgeous. It's clean and the scenes are easy to follow, even the action packed ones which I'm sure are the trickiest parts for any mangaka. So even though I became really frustrated with the super fast pace of the story that wouldn't even allow me to care for what was happening, the art was so good that it was worth the effort of finishing it.
Character 7/10
There was no character development and so it felt like most of them were very clichéd. Let me explain:
-The bad guy with a terrible past that forced him to be the way he is.
-The friend that suddenly becomes a backstabbing traitor.
-The gentle and naive heroine that needs protection from every single male in the story.
-The quiet one who barely speaks.
-The friendly boy with a pet constantly on his shoulder.
And the list goes on and on...
Don't get me wrong, they were likable characters, none of them were unbearably annoying, but it was difficult to care about them and their well being when they were so poorly fleshed out. We get to know nothing about them except that all of the men are interested in one way or another on the heroine (big surprise huh?) and that she suddenly wakes up one day and feels at home between them.
To be honest, I would have rated this section with a 5 but I'm a sucker for bishies and this manga is crawling with them so bear with me..
Enjoyment 6/10
It was a fairly entertaining manga to read while I was sick in bed but it's not memorable at all so..
Overall 7/10
This would have been a 5/6 if the art had been mediocre, so read it if you have nothing else to read or if your mind numbingly bored.
However if you'd like to read better told story about ninjas and time slips my personal favorite is Shinobi Life, so check it out!
