First of all, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is worse than the sequel (Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S) but doesn't let it fool you. It's excellent anime if you don't look for 24/7 action. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a bit slow-paced, the theme of the first season is building with each episode later on.
Characters in the anime are bild childish but likeable, character development goes better with every episode. Art style sadly isn't anything great, it's okay at best. The music and sound setting are very good. The story and plot of Toaru Kagaku no Railgun are pretty straightforward and look a bit like
...
a build-up for Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S - which isn't bad at all. It's slow and steady, some may doesn't like some may like it. Overall at the beginning, it's pretty light-hearted but later on, going dark. Word settings look like build expectantly for the main characters, we don't know much about the outside world, everything orbits around Misaka and her friends, which might be kinda odd. I won't spoil much if I say that the main character goes bonkers and no one in the city is concerned or even bothered about what's going on, which is a bit mood killer.
Thou beware Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S is way way better in every aspect.

This is fine anime at best. I was hoping for much more but you know it's what it is. The best part of the anime was the music 2nd place would be the art style. Everything else it's at best ok. Character development is not fun at all, don't get me started on Kiara's semi-main character, it's hard to like her even a bit, she is like a flag on the wind. We have two well-written characters, Kikuchiyo who is the brightest and most likable Samurai, and Komach sister of Kiara. She also is BFF with Kikuchiyo. The rest of the characters are just generic,
...
plain. The story is well-written, and it holds up I enjoyed it - don't expect anything too deep about it. Overall it's a fine anime and I can easily recommend it as a guilty pleasure.
MAL doesn't allow me to give half of the points so I gave it 7 but a more suitable/proper score would be 6.5.
Art is solid 8, music solid 8, characters 5,
story 6.
Watch it if you want to watch "something" but don't have anything specific in mind yet.

First things first, don't watch it, don't even bother it if you are looking for anything more than a guilty pleasure. This anime is horribly bad, full of plot holes, irrational decisions and the most generic and unlikeable characters in human history. The art style is at best: average, a mix of 2D + 3D is horrible. And if you thought that 1st season was bad, you were wrong 2nd is even worse. Plot holes in plot holes mixed with stupid-as-brick characters, (I'm looking at you Sayaka) most generic main characters and stupid villains.
It's hard to find anything positive about this show but I'm
...
going to try my best. Himiko is the best thing that happened to this show and you know what? They kill her in like 60 seconds, I was like, what the hell? Fight scenes and music is ok nothing outside that is good or even average.
It's hard for me to believe that manga is the same as bad as this show but in case it's true I feel sorry for everyone who read it.

It's hard to find anything positive about this show but I'm going to try my best, fight scenes are okayish, the sound is ok, it is on Netflix (on the day of writing this review) and the most important thing, 1st season is WAY better than 2nd one. I
...
rate it 5 outta 10, because in comparison to 2nd season, it's good.

Introduction:
Before I start, I'm quite new in the anime/manga world, so my opinion can be biased.
Let's get to the business. Claymore anime is excellent, just like that it's great anime, with interesting characters, great art, and a superb interesting plot. But it has a few flaws (like everything in this world).
Art/animations:
Let's start with positive things, as you might already know it's a bit dated show and far away from today's standards but for me, this bit outdated art style makes it great. I just love how it is animated, the colour scheme is great (everything is dark, cloudy, you know medieval fantasy style),
...
and the fight animations are fast-paced, exciting and not so much one-sided. Characters art is a bit, don't really know how to explain it, let's call it - strange, but strange in a good way. In the beginning, I didn't like these triangular faces but after a few episodes, I found it likeable (when more characters have been introduced). The art style of the main characters is great, every Claymore has their own hairstyle after a while you can easily differentiate each Claymore just by looking at them (btw. Teresa > all). Generic characters are okayish hard to tell anything good or bad about them. I have mixed feelings about Raki. The world art style is likeable and has its own feeling - very enjoyable, medievalist, dark but on another hand when action is shown on a sunny day it feels so refreshing and hearth warming. I rate art style 9/10.
Sound:
The next point on my list is music and sound. It didn't catch the art style level at any point. I don't really know why. Maybe because it's kinda old anime? As I said in the introduction I'm not a bit specialist but for me, the music setting was at its peak mediocre. Opening/ending theme is okay, outside that it's just plain, sounds used in the show are so generic that hurts. I just hated when the same tune was played when something "bad/devilish" was going to happen. The sword-fighting sound was horribly bad, yomas sounds were generic like hell. But not everything was bad, the voice actors did their job perfectly, I don't know anything in Japanese but I feel their emotions, it was great, and the actress dubbing Miria and Clare did a great job. I rate the sound as a whole 4 outta 10.
Characters:
Oh my, characters, let's wrap it in one sentence: great but not the best. As I mentioned before in art section, every Claymore has their own "style" same applies to their characteristics some are likeable some are hateable overall it's good. With each episode, we know a little bit more about every main and semi-main character. Learn the relationship between Clare and Teresa, and how impactful was it for the main heroine. We observe the characters' evolution, and how they change their mindest over time. For me, it was a wild experience some characters which I didn't like at the introduction became l most liked (I'm looking at you Helen). We can't forget about villains, and man these are great. I won't spoil anything but everything I wrote about Clamores applies to villains. Sadly not everything is so great - Raki I have mixed feelings about him. The show is focused on the main characters and orbits about that, in anime we didn't learn much about side characters back story and when we do they suddenly die i.e Undine. Overall I rate it 8/10.
Anime plot:
Rich, exciting, and uneven. Since I review anime, not manga, let's wrap it quickly, first 17 episodes are good. Episodes related to Clare and Teresa relationship is one of the greatest thing I ever watched. The rest feel rushed and uneven. The last 9 episodes are fast, action-packed but don't get me wrong, it's okay but not great, just too fast. The last 4 episodes are all about action... but man, the last few minutes of the last episode are the best. I won't spoil anything but it is a rollercoaster of emotions. Plot 7/10.
Final Thoughts:
As I said at the beginning I'm anime/manga newb so my opinion might be biased but I really liked Claymore, I might change my opinion about this show in future but for now, I rate it 8/10.
I rate it that high because I love RPG games, dark fantasy themes, strong female heroines, light romantic/relationship themes and Claymore has everything from the above list. I strongly recommend watching it.
