this was probaly the most disapointed ive ever been at an anime ever in my life, not because it was the most atrocious but because i had high expectations. the synopsis sounds perfect on paper, lab experimentation and gruesome revenge and escape and all. the atmosphere has a haunting eerie quality to it too so i rlly wanted to love it. and i did love parts. but there was lots of stuff that i just didnt like where it went, such as

1. the addition of the male lead living with his cousin whos in love with him was totally unnecessary. like it brought ... nothing to the plot and only existed to give it a harem aspect i guess. i dont even care about the incestualness, i just dont like it when something that has potential to be genuinely good is held back by tropes like harem shit

2. the art style was kinda shite .......... it becomes part of the atmosphere and works in a creepy unsettling way, but in the parts where its not dark or interesting and is just slice of life, its like dang this kinda ugly

3. i didnt like lucy's split personality, Nyu, cuz it just felt like it just existed to be cute and used for fanservice, i couldnt buy into it for some reason. i guess it wasnt written or handled well. having a childlike split personality after youve been thru what shes been thru is actually pretty realistic i think, but it just fellt dumb and gay

the theme song and gore was very based and id say the anime definitely has an overall vibe to it that i remember fondly. its just very flawed and kinda like zamn you couldve done so much good shit w this plot but you went the tropey trash route instead

reminds me of christmas 2021 cuz thats when i watched it. the best way i can describe it is just a dark melodramatic lesbian soap opera. if this is rlly how lesbians act then i guess the domestic abuse statistics really are true, these bitches r INSANE !!! almost all of them belong in a mental asylum, but thats what makes it so based. i think their craziness has more to do w being in an all girls school than anything tho. you cant go an episode without someone flinging a knife at someone else or contsant screaming and crying. id recommend watching an episode ... every time u need stupid drama but i wouldnt recommend binging it all at once because then the drama gets overwhelming and ur like wtf is this . i binged it so i know

the characters are good and the soundtrack is VERY good, the art is really good apart from the faces being ugly which is forgivable cause its old. the storylines and writing started off strong but mostly ended up not going where youd hope they would, they ended up being somewhat disappointing for the most part at least to me. specificaly the storyline of the crazy black haired hoe w the red lips (mariko or something), i thought it would go super dramatic but it didnt in the end. i guess thats more realistic, not everything ends with a bang. but the show was otherwise Unrealisticaly Dramatic with 10 billion twists and turns and uhoh moments so yea. that ended up being my main problem with it, instead of slow buildup there had to be a heart-thudding surprise moment every episode and they payoff usually didnt end up being worth it. but, i still feel like the characters were handled well psychologically

this wouldve been one of the best of all time if they didnt go off the rails in the latter half

it was SUPPOSED to just be a cute exciting mecha romance between a shitty pilot and the infamous pilot girl whos miles better than him but then it just goes all over the place the plot shits itself out and then eats itself again and turns itself inside out until its completely malformed from what it was originally supposed to be

it doesnt devalue my enjoyment of the first and middle half, that part was genuinely well written and enjoyable. the art was really ... smooth and the soundtrack slapped. the character designs for the side characters were very good and i liked the cast a lot more than i wouldve expected, genuinely liked them all except ichigo i think. i wasnt expecting to care much about zero two but she had more personality than most female leads ive seen, she was mischeivious and silly and adventurous and based. i remember the part where she grabs Hiro's hand and starts running with him and i was like Zomg heart eyes emoji

this anime is very cozy and cute and soft and the art is kino and the soundtrack is kino. im a sucker for unsocialized robot/alien/lab experiment anime girls and romances involving them bc theyr literaly me, so if u are also a sucker for those tropes u will probably like this. chi is litraly me

the idea of accidentally finding a broken incompetent sexbot in the garbage, taking her home and trying to fix her up and show her the world is incredibly based and CLAMP is the genius of all time. the most metal part is when he tries to figure out how to turn ... her on and the switch just so happens to be in her pusay.

the main thing i liked was actualy that it was thought provoking. the idea of digital memories and data being wiped from a persocom essentially being permanent death made me think a lot about if when someone permanently loses their memory, does that mean the person who you knew is dead? idk . the story was best when it got really into the social and psychological impact that the persocoms have on the humans around them and also the humanity of persocoms themselves. specifically the one teen girl who was really worried about persocoms replacing women i felt like that was pretty realistic cuz id feel the same if i was her. i wish they went into this shit more and i feel like the show would be a lot better and definitely a 10 if they also went into the sort of problems that could arise from Hideki being literally all Chi knows, basically kinda raising her. the anime is too short to get to that point in a realistic way tho.

it also gets pretty sad towards the end liek i was CRYIMG.....

i dont like the comedy/slice of life parts personally, i dont find horny 2000s anime jokes funny, but i just look past them cuz the other stuff was fascinating or cute. i also didnt really like what seemed to be hints of harem-ness that appeared sometimes but i was glad it didnt end up actually being a harem and he rejected that other hoe cause monogamous romance is BASED!

this was visually atrocious but at the same time it was kinda respectable for how bad it was. the animation was so UGLYYYYY i have a vague memory of just watching the scene with miki and akira in the train where the lighting is all orange and thinking "man low budget 2000s anime style really sucked balls". i was kinda wrong tho it can be ok. i also have a very vivid memory of there being a human milk lactation scene where a girl had tubes on her tits but i couldnt find it while looking up shit so maybe im just going mad. i ... know there was somehting like that in devilman crybaby and i thought it was in here too or maybe it was jsut SOMETHING about breast milk but i dont know what. weird as hell regardless.

anyways: one of the fight scenes was animated so poorly that i felt like i was watching a youtube video making fun of it. i could not take it seriously. the gruesomness and gore and body horror was based tho

i will give credit where credit is due: there are 2 good things in this show. the theme song is a banger, and Esdeath is pretty cool. thats it. esdeath shouldve won and maybe id give a higher rating. im actually surprised they were able to come up with a character design as good as hers. however, the rest sucks too hard for the good to shine. there are several moments or plot points in this show that insulted and offended my brain, felt like a straight up slap to my face calling me stupid for even watching it (which was with someone i couldnt ... stand so that probably made the viewing experience even worse). anyways ill go through some of them

1. main protagonist's frends die. Oh noes this is so sad. immediate horny harem hyjinks ensue.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CARE ABOUT THE DEATHS IF YOU IMMEDIATELY GO TO TIT JOKES. WHAT IS THIS. i killed myself on the spot when this happened it was so bad

2. the characters being color coded. theres the green guy, the purple girl, the pink girl, the yellow lion girl etc. i dont mind having a "main color" for ur characters, but having a specific character whose hair and ENTIRE OUTFIT (incluidng accessories) are all ONE COLOR is just ridiculous. and this show does that with multiple characters. not even magical girl animes are this ridiculously color coded, and at least there it fits the vibe. it was totally out of place in this supposedly grim world that they wanted me to take seriously. speaking of which wtf was even the aesthetic of the world meant to be ? grim fantasy but with a girl who has hot pink ponytails? come ON

3. the evil empire just being called "the Capital". DO BETTER. not only that but what were they even rebelling against? it was just evil and i cant even remeber why cause it was so generic

4. the characters are given literally no development at all besides le funy quirky anime moments xd yet im supposed to care at all when they drop dead like flies? in fact when the purple librarian girl died i was actualy happy cuz she was annoying as hell. i was given no reason to care about them except "well, heres ur self insert main protagonist, and these r his friends, so pretend theyre ur friends"
