Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon

It was going to be just another day at the office, but then *she* turned up. Sure, while in the case of 'New Game!' it was a new employee, and in 'Kobayashi-san' a giant, enamoured dragon; either will entertain a slice-of-life fan as they enjoy a comedy soup with just a dash of drama. If you like mostly female casts, get ready to gradually explore them, their histories and their motivations one by one as you watch lesbian romances disguised as friendships blossom.

New Game!
add

Did you think Sakura Trick needed nicer art and vaguer lesbians? Well, you're in luck! Both slice-of-life comedies set in a world where men barely seem to exist, New Game! and Sakura Trick revolve around starting a new chapter in life - Yuu and Haruka start high school, and Aoba starts her first job at a video game company. Wonderfully designed characters tackle the challenges that accompany their transition, such as making new friends and adjusting to the change.

Kuroshitsuji
add

Would you make a deal with the devil? Would you give up your soul for the one thing you want more than anything? Both Kuroshitsuji and Jigoku Shoujo answer this question, and the answer is yes. Both series depict dark themes, especially revenge. Ai is similar to Ciel (besides their physical size, of course) since they both had too much death and despair forced upon them when they were too young and bear great responsibility.

Grisaia no Kajitsu
add

The word 'harem' generally has a static meaning, but Grisaia no Kajitsu and Clannad redefine it. Both are stunning school romance dramas, featuring similar protagonists. They follow the same formula, dedicating a few episodes to each of the girls. Both series are effective tearjerkers and are absolutely heartbreaking.

Kuroshitsuji

Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii
add

Equal parts drama and comedy, both Kuroshitsuji and Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii feature a young boy (one far too cold and mature for his age) in a position of power who has to deal with both enemies and allies alike who wish to see him struck down from it. They also feature this boy's relationship with his butler, though this is focused on much more heavily in Kuroshitsuji. Both series contain supernatural elements and a historical setting.

Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka?

Both are 1-cour, moeblob slice-of-life series. They have mostly female ensemble casts with a variety of characters; who are very easy to get attached to. Both Yuru Yuri and Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka? are cute-girls-doing-cute-things comedies which are great for relaxing and dragging a laugh or two out of you - though Usagi's atmosphere is more relaxed than Yuru Yuri's.

After a meeting with a mysterious girl, a high schooler is thrust into a battle with the government for conquest. He must now delicately balance a double life - fighting to fulfill the ultimate goal while not arousing the suspicions of his friends - one of whom is working for the enemy. While both action series, the main difference between Sekai Seifuku and Code Geass is that while the latter is very dramatic and serious, the former rarely slips out of its lighthearted and comedic tone.

Set in a dystopia in the near future, post-war, society is made up of racist assholes. With plenty of action and science fiction themes; our main character, a powerful high school student, is on a mission and leads an army in a new war that could either save or destroy Japan. Both main characters rely on something to fight - Black Bullet uses young girls who are 'cursed children' while Code Geass uses giant robots called Knightmares - and both series share the same intense, yet sometimes softened, atmosphere.

Kokoro Connect
add

Both Sankarea and Kokoro Connect present themselves as a supernatural romantic comedy - and they indeed are. However, on top of that, they also deal with a lot of darker and more serious drama; and blend these two aspects together very well. Both also entail a few people trying to keep a supernatural secret, exploring the depressing backstories of the main cast; and two female characters being in love with the male lead, though he only loves one of them.

The main character is introduced to a situation and setting in which everyone is in danger of dying by otherworldly means, and has to try to escape from the situation. In order to achieve this, they must figure out a) what the fuck is going on and b) who is behind it all. Both animes start with a large group of characters but by the end most have been thinned out and few survive. Another's ending and answer to the mystery is pretty conclusive... but King of Thorn just leaves you with more unanswered questions.

Both involve characters being forced to play a video game against their will as a matter of life or death, and are goal oriented (Collect seven chips, clear 100 floors).
