Oreimo is one of those shows with a good concept, good production but just bad execution.
I'll just start out with saying that the characters have barely any development and thereis pretty much no story. I wouldn't even say this is a good time waster anime because it's not even like it's that entertaining or funny.
Starting out, I thought this would be a cute anime about a girl befriending her brother because he's the only one that accepts her nerdy hobbies, maybe they could've shared hobbies and even bonded over what eroge and anime they like. But it wasn't like that at all. Instead, we get

Kirino forcing Kyosuke to engage with her hobby and forcing him to read eroge, which he clearly doesn't want to do.
Speaking of Kirino, she starts out as a bitch and at the end of a series she's only ten percent less of a bitch to Kyosuke. She's such an unsatisfying character, if she wasn't cute and a bit relatable I would have genuinely hated her. She's cruel to him and everyone besides her school friends for pretty much no reason. I genuinely do not understand her friendship with Kuroneko, they clearly don't like each other and only argue so I don't understand the framing of "Friends" for them.
The other characters are whatever, Kuroneko is pretty neat, Kyosuke is a living doormat for his sister the rest are forgettable.
Here comes the only spoiler for the story but as I already stated there basically is none so I wouldn't even count this as one. Kirino writes a light novel which, for some reason, becomes popular and gets an anime adaptation. Now, Kirino writing a self-insert novel? I totally understand. It's very in character. But an anime adaptation? And getting published? This is just nonsensical. I genuinely do not understand the point because based on everything we get told about this light novel of hers it doesn't seem to be well written either. it gets brought up again in the last episode but not even in a relevant fashion. I genuinely do not understand why this was included.
I really don't understand why so many people like this show, I guess it's just because of the incest aspect but that wouldn't even make any sense because despite the title, there is no incest. I personally wouldn't recommend this to anyone besides those just trying to complete their "2000s Anime/Otaku Classics" watchlist.
