I want this review to be short.
The story and the way it was tell was a 9 for me. The emotions feel raw, the story use the suicide of Mariko as just a jumping point to tell the grieving of the main character Shii. Shii's grieving and mourning of Mariko's death feel very real to me, seeing how broken she was at the lost of her friend, Shii cared so much for Mariko yet it still feels not enough. The story even touches me in the emotions portray in Shii's reminiscent of their friendship through her flashback. Seeing the hopeless sadness seeing and trying
...
her best to help out an abused friend.
The art was an 8. For some random reason the art make me really think of the manga Metamorphose no Engawa although these two manga are so different in tones. The art have more of a sketch feel in panels where Shii feeling emotions like denial and anger, and in panels where the tone is more of sadness and depress the art is more detail and rough feel to it. My favorites are still the coloring of the cover. Seeing such a broken woman with such depth of color. (I don't know what I'm talking about, I just really like it)
In the end the manga was very emotional and touching. The subject of the manga was different from what I thought it was. More about the story of grief and awareness of the mental state of abused victims than just sad suicide. I really enjoyed reading it, the story was even more better to read when listening to Mitski's album "Bury Me At The Makeout Creek" it really felt like the album was something like the manga. Hope you have a great time reading this manga ^^
