If it weren't for the dumpster fire that was the ending to this, I would happily give this a 7. While this manga was inconsistent in some parts, some of the highs really hit well and I appreciated the characters and overall arc of the story. The craft of writing and Natsuo's journey as an author, in particular, was extremely touching and I enjoyed how it was portrayed. The depiction of the Hina - Natsuo was a bit eh for me, but I liked the Rui Natuso relationship. It felt more real, and they seemed to compliment each other more. It also felt like Rui
...
liked Natsuo more honestly, which just made the ending suck even more. The side characters were really nice and added to the story really nicely, from their two author Senseis to Natsuo's friends.
That ending though... What can I say except wow. It was heartbreaking and just pathetic to see an author throw away 250+ chapters of development, world building, growth and relationships just to shoehorn in their desired ending without having to set it up. I'm not sure why she didn't take more time to build up to this Hina Natsuo ending, and even though I wasn't a fan of it, I think I could have accepted it if it had been built properly. Not like this though. That ending was atrocious, up there with Game of Thrones and HIMYM.

If there's one thing I really liked about this movie, its how Shinkai was able to explore quite a few complex themes in a surprising amount of depth in such a short time, without the movie feeling overly dramatic or heavy. The focus on the 2 main characters only, given the short runtime, does mean that there are certain sides to them which aren't fully revealed, but it does allow for the relationship between the two of them to be explored fully. I really liked the characterisation of both Yukino and Takao, they were crafted as realistic, complex but also relatable, which is hard to
...
accomplish without lots of exposition or backstory. Shinkai instead use simple dialogue and even situations without dialogue to portray his characters, and he does so exceptionally well. In particular, I felt the foot measurement and tracing scene managed to convey a lot of emotion and thoughts without any words.
While love is definitely the most obvious theme depicted, I was more intrigued by the themes of maturity and personal growth, which I felt Shinkai managed to explore in an even more interesting fashion. In terms of maturity, I felt that while both characters showed moments of great maturity and some impulsive actions, I found Takao to actually be the more mature one, while Yukino seemed a bit more unsure of herself, ironic given their ages. However, I think this deliberate characterisation serves to make the romantic connection seem more plausible, as a normal 15 and 27 year old relationship just doesn't sound right.
I really liked the personalities attached to the characters, from the shoe obsessed Takao, to Yukino's quirk of only drinking beer and eating chocolate, which really humanised them. These defining traits also served to showcase each individual character's personal growth, with Takao's crafting of the shoes for Yukino showing his confidence and skill as a shoemaker and confidence in his identity, and Yukino's improved cooking and ability to taste more foods reflecting her regained confidence and passion for life.
Overall, I do wish that the relationship was explored further, I think there was space for another 15-20 mins to showcase some more intimate moments between the 2, rather than the montage used in the actual movie, which I think would have allowed for an even more in-depth exploration of this unique relationship.

A beautiful movie, with all the components syncing wonderfully to elevate this work of art. I have to start off by talking about the art, because it was absolutely gorgeous. The style itself wasn't anything unique, but the detail in every frame was evident, and it really made me feel that every frame was a painting. There wasn't plenty of situations where the animation could really shine, but where it was used, it was done in a smooth and beautiful manner. But the background art was really the stand-out, probably the best I've ever seen.
The sound was amazing as well, the use of certain songs
...
to elevate the mood was chosen perfectly, and the voice acting was also done really well. I especially loved the song for the final scene before the epilogue.
The Characters were a treat as well, I loved the complexity depicted in the two leads through not only their actions but also through their relationship with the other side characters. I felt the side characters got a chance to be fleshed out beyond mere foils, and I particularly liked the story of Keisuke Suga.
The Story, while great, is my only minor gripe with the movie. I would have liked the supernatural element to be more fleshed out, but I do feel that it doesn't take away from the core of movie, which is about the romantic relationship. Still, the story is cohesive, fast paced while still depicting enough moments to flesh out the characters, and the plot doesn't feel too rushed or draggy. I do liked the inclusion of the epilogue scene, I think that it was the perfect cherry on top. I'm a sucker for good endings, and this definitely stuck the landing.

An unusual premise for a romance story, with both the main characters being different from the normal romance tropes. I liked the setup with this premise, and I felt it was explored pretty well, with good amount of time devoted to Satoru and Yae's individual character growth and the growth of their relationship as well. I only wish it was longer, or that a sequel would be made, because I still feel there's a lot to be unpacked and explored regarding the idea of a female boxer, with her boyfriend/husband being the coach. I wish some of the side characters had a bit more development,
...
but considering how short this manga was, I understand why it wasn't possible. The manager and the the policewoman boxer were interesting characters that I wish we could have gotten to know more about their personal lives.
The art was pretty good, the author clearly has a certain love for athletic girls with abs :) While most scenes were drawn decently well, the scenes that needed a certain extra attention to detail got it, which was good to see. Especially those scenes of the tender moments between Satoru and Yae.
Regarding the actual boxing, I don't think it was explored to a very high level of detail, but it also wasn't just there for show. The importance of boxing in their lives was clearly shown, but I do wish the technical aspects of the boxing fights and their boxing training were explored more. I especially think showing boxing training moments would have been a good way to explore growth in their relationship while also enhancing the level of detail and educating the audience about the subtleties and beauty of boxing.
Still, regardless of the missed opportunities, there weren't any real missteps with the manga, and the only knock I can really give it is for leaving me wanting, not for any of the actual elements of the story. I'm glad the ending was nice and wholesome as well.

honestly a 7 overall, but the reason I'm giving it an 8 is because of the way it ended. Ending shows is rly hard, and this one really stuck the landing. The final naruto and sasuke fight was perfect in terms of explaining their respective ideologies and how they clashed, and the way they reconciled was epic too. The actual fight itself was really nicely shown, and the symbolism and details throughout was top notch. The aftermath and the wedding was very nicely done as well, so props for that.
The middle of it though was really tough. From the end of the pain arc to
...
when Madara gets the ten tails, it felt really dull and monotonous honestly, except for some parts like the truth about Itachi. The early part of the war especially felt very boring and dull, the reanimations just didnt feel emotional when fighting, probably cos they weren't real, and that whole arc felt like a proper drag. If that middle part had honestly been cut in half, it would have made the whole thing way more enjoyable. I didnt even watch most of the filler episodes too, I can iamgine if I chose to do that, it would have turned out to be even more long and dull.
Best advice to enjoy it, skip almost all fillers (search online for the few that are worth), and watch most of the war arc at x1.5 speed, cos its very repetitive and boring until Madara arises.

This is a manga with a high peak (first arc) and a very, very low trough for the rest of it, topped off with an unsatisfying, confusing and utterly disappointing ending.
The first 80 chapters, which is the first arc (Boys in Prison) is phenomenal. I laughed my ass off at some of the scenes, and its clear the mangaka knew exactly what he was doing, as there was a tight, cohesive storyline at this point. It was really really good, and I highly recommend it. Everything, from the art, to the depth of characters is of a very high quality, and it is something I
...
would even consider re-reading.
However, it all goes downhill from there. While there are certain aspects in other arcs, such as moments from the cavalry fight, or some scenes with the boys and PBR sama, and Kiyoshi and Hana which are quite funny, for the most part it feels extremely disoriented. Especially towards the latter half of the cavalry arc onwards, it really feels like the author was unsure how to end the manga, and the rushed, pathetic ending only confirms this. There are puzzling and weird conclusions that absolutely make no sense, and there is no sense of closure in any of the arcs, except maybe Risa and Andre.
The art stays good throughout, classic ecchi stuff, the girls were all drawn quite well, and certain scenes were captured quite vividly. It's a shame the same attention to detail wasn't shown to character development or the plot though.
