This show has done a lot of things right that I just don’t see very often from anime these days. With only two points subtracting from a perfect 10, this is a must watch for anyone who watches anime for the feelings they evoke.
The Good:
Strong Progression with efficient use of episode time. Very little filler.
Character Development across multiple fronts.
Thought provoking world
Intense emotions of love, hate, and more expressed fluidly.
Common problems relatable to every day people with their own unique flavor (due to the story, but no spoilers).
Strong music choices.
Beautifully animated scenes with no noticiable CGI use.
Even more beautifully animated openings (Probably the
...
best I’ve seen so far)
Twists to the story, while still living up to the watchers expectation (prediction) that things ARE going to work out and be okay.
And most credibly, the best ending to an anime I’ve seen in a long time. It satisfies the watcher with an ending on both fronts (you’ll see what I mean if you watch) and beautifully wraps up the story; doing so while still leaving a future from the very final scene up to the imagination of you. I am tired of watching animes where the story isn’t finished and there’s not more seasons (whether it be financials or just “go read the LN/Manga we just promoted). This doesn’t do this. It is a rollercoaster of “it’s so over” ‘s and “it’s so back” ‘s that finishes smooth in your heart and mind.
This is one of the best anime’s I’ve seen in a very long time; amazing me with so much happiness that right when I finished the season. I started it over and watched it a second time. All in the same day, thinking maybe it would make my review more objective. It did making me realize the bad things to follow, but I did not even get tired of it doing so. I loved it even more making the connections I missed. This is truly one anime I can watch over and over without getting tired of it.
The Bad:
1. Since it fits the entire story in one season, we’re looking at a little bit of an inconsistent pace that tends to be fast. It even makes sudden jumps such as “oh…space”, HOWEVER all of these are adequately explained in the story and shown how we got there as it’s occurring.
2. There are a things in the story you may want to know more about. Such has the lives of Nana (Japanese for 7 (I.e. 007)) and Hachi (Japanese for 8). Along with the encounter with the adults a certain someone had if that is possibly their mother. Along with all the other things in the universe you might just want explained. This obviously leaves a burning desire for more. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I know a lot of people don’t like this about shorter animes, so it’s here.
But I would say that’s about it. Please give this a watch and enjoy the action, the love, and the lives of these children.
(I am new to MAL, so I apologize for the late review or even a low amount of titles to my account, but I’m slowly working on remembering everything I’ve watched into here.)
