Instead of high school teams, both protagonists are based in out-of-school clubs for their particular sport. Both manga also have great side characters and excellent character development for the MC! These two are definitely my favourite sports animanga :D

Both series portray the supposed villainess of the story as a lovable tsundere as opposed to the antagonist they were framed to be in their in-universe otome games. While both female leads from either anime share a love for their respective villainess, one simply tries to wingman and the other actually harbours romantic feelings. They're both quite cute!

Both depict being an idol and an entertainer as a job first and foremost, as opposed to simply a passion or dream. They both offer commentary and some form of criticism toward the entertainment industry as they show the darker sides of the business. All while giving the watcher heaps of quality drama!! But also, I think they both do a pretty good job at humanizing the celebrities involved. Surprisingly, I find there to be more realism in Oshi no Ko, the story that actually has supernatural elements lmao. Maybe it's cause IDOLiSH7 is an idol franchise above all else but I still found it just as outstanding.

Despite their different storylines, I found the main characters to be quite similar in, not only their appearances but, their personalities and mannerisms. I thought Kyoutarou's quiet way of speaking to his classmates, in contrast to his inner monologues, was very reminiscent of Tomoko. (Not to mention, they both have some kind of unspoken superiority complex against their classmates.) So, if you enjoyed her ramblings, you may also be entertained by the latter lmao

Runway de Waratte

Both stories are about making your seemingly impossible dreams come true, usually in a form of a promise to someone else who shares a similar or related ambition. They both also offer multiple side characters who share rivalries with the protagonists. (In Runway's case, the two protagonists are also each other's rivals.) These characters use their competition as a means of improvement in their craft. Even at a loss, they always maintain/regain their determination!
