The hype is indeed valid. The art is gorgeously sublime. That said, when it boils down to it, the drama is a bit weak and average at times. I would say it’s more slice-of-life than drama, so far. me the most, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing, though it was a bit disappointing personally. (Love me an enemies-to-lovers trope.)
The “drama” is indeed cliché, perhaps a little *too* melodrama for my taste at times, but the chemistry between the main characters is very authentic and the characters themselves are lovable. I could relate a lot to Subaru and Kaoruko is great (clearly) because she’s unironically ~not like the other gorl mcs~.
Another thing that makes this manga so refreshing is that the characters actually…communicate well?!? The progression is natural and the pacing is decent because every chapter is intentional and the conflicts aren’t prolonged. It’s a speedy read because of the short webtoon-length chapters, which is a nice plus. So, if you’re searching for an aesthetically-stunning romance manga that doesn’t waste its time, look no further!
