Have you ever had a childhood friend? That would always stick by you in times of need and maybe even fall in love with that person?
This is a story about 3 friends, 1 girl and 2 boys, can you see what's going to happen? It's a tad too obvious if i don't say so myself. It's too cliche of a thing to even know. I've seen it too many times you might say. Either way one of the friends is bound to get hurt.
How the author has done with the drawing style is none other that simple and stylish. A drawing style that i love
...
but also very often seen. Sometimes the mangaka can become frustrated or even to tired, to even put the effort into it. As i read on the drawing becomes too weak and i can see the lack of detail that is placed in to the characters faces.
The characters are really straight forward, however i can not come to love even one of them. Why? the characters themselves are plain, and simple. The heroine in this manga could be said as naive and to thick headed to even know the boys feelings while they compete for the love of their childhood friend. However the mangaka has shown us what the characters are feeling but the lack of development and how the characters react with each other goes to fast because the mangaka is trying to rush something that shouldn't be rushed and that's
Love.
I can't deny though, that it entertains me to see how each character struggles on to win someones heart. It's filled with love and sometimes even pity for the heroine because of the ridiculous decisions that she has to make that maybe we will never get.
It's a short read and i will not hate. If the story line had a more stronger and a non-cliche plot i would love it even more. Everyone needs a little imagination than the same old boring story that is told over and over again.

High in the mountains, there lives 2 Gods, brothers you might say, Yonagahiko and tetsuichi. However Tetsuichi is special, he moves around like a human where as Yonagahiko has a body of a serpent, a face of a human as beautiful as it is...
We witness the movements of Tetsuichi as we watch him move around the mountains, never to be able to leave from this place and the wanting to go to the outside world, but will Yonagahiko let him, to leave his side?
Do not angry the Gods because you will regret it.
Reading this i feel as if i have been trapped into a
...
historical environment. As if i have gone back in time. It gives off the feeling as if you are there. The scenery grasps me in and with the God like creatures that i've seen its very beautiful and very well thought out by the mangaka.
The mangaka has given us a range of characters, from being small to being gigantically tall in the eyes of a God. The mangaka shows us the mysteriousness of the characters and makes us guess if they have good intentions or not.
However, speaking honestly, it has been dragged. With a mild flick of dialog for you to read could be a bit tiring, but gets better in the next fewer chapters and with loads to read as promised.
I would say i have enjoyed this and will be anticipating more of the up coming chapters. A mixture of historical and supernatural happenings, this will be a beautiful read, it's refreshing and drags you into a world of fantasy.

Humans like us always desires somethings... something within us that draws a line between good and bad... and we always will cross that line but for the better or for worse? Something we desire so great that we get effected by it... but what draws us to it? That thing that pulls us in will also have that same feeling...
A 'Freak' is what you may call it that will pull us in to get what we want that we desire the most. It's as if, it's not us that really wants it but them that badly needs it. They will take control of us and
...
posses us until they get what 'they want', that is what these 'Freaks' do, they target our weaknesses.
What could stop these 'Freaks'? Well we have the 'Nanami Paranormal Investigation agency' that will stop the 'Freaks' from getting too powerful but... can humans stop them, well that's the point, they aren't.
As we witness the battle between the 'Freaks' and the Nanami investigators, we go through cases that they take to protect the humans.
We see deep into the souls of 'Freaks' and we get to understand what they are going through. Maybe they are just hating, in pain, sorrow, jealousy, pleasure... the darkness deep within the 'Freaks' are pitiful, however we can connect to them... we also have desires or dreams of our own...
Now about the Namami investigators... they are not just your normal investigators neither are some of them human. However they will protect us with what ever power they have that is kept a secret. We aren't given big loads of info on them but we can guess what they really want or do that is.
This manga is a deserve read with a warning to mild nudity that isn't stated. I'm really enjoying this manga and would really like to read more of it. The plot is pretty simple once you read it.
If you are into supernatural phenomena and strange happenings with a tingle of horror i suggest you give this manga a try.

Over 150,000 people die each day...
In those deaths we have accidents, murders and even suicides...
Let me ask you, when someone commits a suicide, what goes on in their minds? Have they lost the will to live? Why? Because there's nothing to live for? Questions are bombarded onto us about these people that do commit, but we actually don't think about the deceased do we now?
We can never dig into the mind of the person that wants to die. We can never fully understand them, we can also never tell them they have to live. Life is so fragile that we can kill our selves
...
like that, when we die, our body is left there to rot on the floor... obviously someone will find that body... what do they do with it?
This story tells us the job of a 'sweeper' this person is responsible in cleaning the body and to clean the place up until it looks as if nobody has even died. How could they possible do this kind of job? It's because they know the meaning of death.
The engrossed bodies shown to us as it is decomposing, with great detailed it is added in which shows me how unreal it could be. The horror as the people who witnesses the bodies of the dead, this will of course be inflicted into their minds forever.
The people in this manga are just like us. The way that we might think as well. The author has portrayed these characters very well and i certainly applause this person for showing us the characters feelings very well, it really makes us connect to them.
It's not how i've enjoyed this manga but how i feel about it. It is such a serious topic to deal with if i am being honest here. The mangaka has really thought this story and the art out very well, it's never an easy subject, to talk about death in such serious matters as in a manga is really something that i would have never consider before.
If you are into such horrors that make your toes curl up and heart beat fast which grabs your attention in such a drastic matter i suggest this is a manga that is worth a read.

I want to get to know you just a bit more...
How do we get attracted to someone? Because of the mysterious person that they are... or is it something more? When we look into a person we can sometimes have a grasp at what that person is feeling at the moment.
Sad? Loneliness? Grief? Pain?
The story is straight forward and quickly gets into it, grabbing your attention straight away. A boy climbing up a 2 story high window while Shinohara is taking extra lessons as study while summer is slowly drifting away. Yoshino helps her, everyday of that week when she has to go and
...
that's how we know that something will go on between them... Obvious much? This curious character that just enters into her life... who wouldn't be curious as to find out more about this person?
The art is just special, it gets into the summer feel, with the haziness effect showing the warmth of summer. Its a very refreshing read which warms the heart greatly. The author has really captured us with the characters, they are really drawn out nicely and makes me grow to like them.
The characters, as i was mentioning are very lively and bubbly. It's not fluffy, but very serious. The author has shown emotions in the characters very well, by drawing it and i'm sure anyone would like the drawing style of this. However the author could have shown more developments in the characters... but as i said it's done all well enough.
I have really enjoyed it and overall i would recommend this to people that loves a light read, something short that touches our hearts.

Mod Edit: This review was originally posted for Ningen Isu (38635) and has subsequently been merged into Best of Best: Itou Junji Tanpenshuu (119021).
Another nice piece of work from Ito Junji. It is seriously a pleasure to read one of his works and feel a hint of weakness to fear and crave his other works.
I really did enjoying reading this one shot.
The story is something new. Something that is different and something that none of us have actually thought about before. As we read the title, 'Human Chair' we suddenly think of a chair that has feelings? A chair that is alive? Well,
...
to simply put it we never do think of objects having feelings. But what Ito Junji has done with objects that we've never actually thought about really creeps me and gives me the chills. He's disguised it so well...
'a man used to live in it...' this mean what it actually means.
*Suddenly goes and checks my sofa... surely there isn't people living in my sofa right?...*
As always the art style is very detailed and gives you the eerie feeling. Dark and mysterious, he places great detail on the characters faces. When showing fear, it really shows, with the sweat, the changes in the facial expressions and the way their body is drawn to react, his drawing style really captivates me to read on and to find out what actually happens.
The characters were really average and i've got nothing to say. He has portrayed them very well, they all have their individuality.
My enjoyment in this was good. He could have created it a bit more scarier and tried to make it more atmospheric like what he's done with Tomie, but as a one shot he has done very well. He could have drawn it scarier *laughs* because i know he's very good at that. Then i would have up-ed my score to an 8 or 9 for enjoyment but a 7 will do.
My overall a 9/10
It's Ito Junji, i praise his work a lot and when i found Uzumaki in my book store i was more than happy to read it and buy it. The story is amazingly told and with every horror story he creates such a twist at the end which just makes you gasp at the end because it's ended so quickly! I would suggest reading more of his works so that you'll be able to enjoy it as much as i have.
He is seriously the best horror mangaka ever.
I know i could have enjoyed it more if he had but a bit more effort into it but yes a must read from Ito Junji for all you horror readers :D

Ermmm so... after looking at this 'manga' (since there is like nothing to read e.g no words or speeches, like not even one word in it) my face was like...
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CvudXaiCeKk/T1aV7kJSB2I/AAAAAAAADQE/M24nMEczXBE/s1600/jackie-chan-wtf.png
Story:
A DREADFUL 2
Ermm even after reading the plot... it still didn't get to me. The plot puzzled me...
'Alice waits with her mom in an elevator' WHAT THEY WERE IN AN ELEVATOR... no fool it didn't seem like it since the drawing was in my opinion different, but i will go to that point in a moment.
It didn't stand out, it didn't make sense to sum it up, if i had a question to
...
ask the mangka it would have been. "Were you high when you wrote this manga?"
Art:
DECENT 4
Well, let's just stay, the mangaka at least made an effort in the art. The art was very unique and different. The use of water colours was very nice but not what he drew. The pencil work on this was very definite the strokes are beautiful and i actually admire this guys work... BUT yes BUT
The colours were dull and sometimes, too much was going on and it didn't really tell me what was going on. I didn't feel like it attracted me... Nor did i get a comfortable environment when i read it.
Character:
A PATHETIC 1
Seriously... nothing about the characters. I mean all i saw was a "few"horny men looking at a woman's breast and then what looked like was the woman stripping and started to touch her... *cough cough* OK little girl 'Alice' seriously whats wrong with your mother? Of course it's wrong, are you not stupid enough to tell your mummy to stop what she's doing ¬_¬ hello! *sigh* the characters are messed up.
No personality reference and you couldn't even tell when Alice went into another world or if she's the woman at the end or is that her mother
IT'S MESSED UP =_=ll
Enjoyment:
A PATHETIC 1
i don't think i really enjoyed it to be honest i mean, when i read it i never looked at the synopsis and... i seriously had the WTH face. For the 14 pages i read i really did feel disturb... "what the hell did i just seriously read."
OVERALL: (Drum Roll...)
DREADFUL 2
At least i didn't give it a 1...
The art is which i admire the most since i was surprised as this artist... IS FRENCH ( i was like WOW) I really admire him but this work is like what, weird, disturbing, random, confusing and what?
Never read anything like this. I wouldn't exactly recommend this to anyone in particular, not that i would ever to be honest...
It never hurts to read something different but for something that's only 14 pages and makes your head spin in circles just to figure out what actually happens *even though it tells you* i just would not read this ever again.

I have to say, this is my first time reading something like this... It's what you called DIFFERENT.
Story:
A FAIR 6
The story is based on your, kinda mystery a bit of detective like genre and starts off with a missing person. It then carries on and gets intense as strange things start to happen to the two detectives that have came to investigate. The unexpected and did i read right that 'aliens' called the 'foreign organisms' have like came to invade this town called 'Soil''? It makes you think...
WTH is wrong with this town?
I rated this a fair, as the plot does make sense
...
but some of it don't and is completely random from time to time. Sometimes i wonder. "What is going through this author's mind"
Art:
VERY GOOD 8
I've given the art an 8 a very good since the drawing style of this is very unique. It's kind of like manga.. but then again it gives of the feel of a comic. The lines and textures are very computer like than your average pencil free kind of look. It's hard to explain if you haven't read it or seen it.
It really depends on what you like. Since i've been reading it for a while, i got use to this authors drawing style and honestly it has grown on me.
Characters:
DECENT 4
Well for the characters i have rated a 4... They are decent but none of them really did appeal to me as much. The characters are actually all unique in their own way and i find that very interesting. The way each character has their own special 'aura' given off. The artist really makes each character different and you can tell.
But i have to say for the characters 'personality' for each of them... differ from one to another.
THIS IS A MATURE READ SERIOUSLY.
when you read something that you don't want your parents reading with you then you know that feeling.
From the beginning i didn't really like how the characters interacted with one another, it was like a swearing competition between the two detectives which kind of did but me off but i still read on LOL
Enjoyment:
DECENT 4
Again with another 4. Not very enjoyable but it does keep you on edge sometimes, like when say...
Another 'foreign organism' appears your going to be like 'Oh what's goning to happen now' but too much happens and too fast and it sometimes just leaves you thinking. 'what just happened.. I don't get this at all' it really puzzles me sometimes.
Overall?
MEDIOCRE 5
I would have given it a 5.. and a half
It's something different and 'quite refreshing' in some ways instead of always reading shouji kind of based manga. I would definitely give this a try, some of the contents in it is not suitable for under 15's i'd say because this is a really whacked out supernatural horror manga.
*With a few sexual content but no where near smut*
IN CONCLUSION.
I wouldn't say i like it, nor would i say i hate it, depends on your love for manga and taste in manga. I would recommend this if you love horror, supernatural and twisted stories, this could be the one for you or you would drop it in a puddle of mud and stomp on it because you think it's very disgusting.
Give it a try, if you dare ;)

WOW ok editing this... When i read over my review i just had to smack myself, literally. Reading what i wrote 2 years ago was just plain wrong, i was such a what? An anime lover? but i have come to judge more on that.
Story:
GOOD 7
Why? I really enjoyed the plot of this anime, different and sophisticated and fulfilled my joy in watching this anime all over. It wasn't over-powered by too much kind of shounen kind or shouji. But sometimes it might be too much to take in?! Not when you've already got a lot to take in from the 1st ep
...
but very consistent which made each episode detailed and very presentable.
Art:
GREAT 9
I actually thought the art to this was very impressive, some bits of it gave off a Gantz kind of feel to it, the opening is which i loved, (For some strange reason), the colours and the textures and the way they present the angles and camera scenes was very much enjoyable to my entertainment. What i like about this is that it's not like Naurto style or Bleach or One Piece. Mostly that everything seems real and *puffs a air of laughter* sustainable xD
Sound:
GOOD 7
hmmmm not much i could really talk about here to be honest... With the ops and eds i really liked both of them. The opening was very enjoyable at the beginning with an upbeat 1,2,3,4 and a very talented singer, what's not to like? and the smoothing ending song that slowly drifts you away.
I like the background sounds which makes it casual and it really fits in with anything. Whenever the tension rises the music keeps you tense too.
Characters:
GREAT 9
I love each and every character's personality, the producer tries to make each and everyone unique i believe so... but to be honest they are just your average characters truthfully said wise. From a typical bossy lady to your typical shy guy that gets bossed around. Nothing special here really but they do tend to give you a twist.
Enjoyment:
VERY GOOD 8
I don't see what's not there to like here and there. I seriously do think people are criticizing too harshly for a really good and entertaining anime that i would too like to watch again. The plot is planned out good, the anime is colourful, eye-catching and full of surprises packed into it. Each episode does sometimes keep you on suspense, wondering 'what's goning to happen next... will they be able to find the key?' that is the main question.
Although everything did happen a bit too fast and i actually wanted more xD
OVERALL:
VERY GOOD 8
I was judgemental at first. I didn't know what i was doing when i clicked on this anime. it attracted me to it, because i've always been superstitious about things and the word 'occult' caught the corner of my eye and literally used it's magnetic field and made me click the watch episode button. I really liked it to be honest and would give this anime a try.
Recommend this if you like super natural things and sci-fi futuristic settings.
it's not the end of the world yet, so your not too late to try a new anime ;)
