Both shows feature a cast mostly composed by women fighting "monsters"; on Claymore, women are ranked by power, on Land of the Lustrous by hardness and role; the main character seems to be the weakest one; the male figure is the leader. As the story progress, the main character starts to question the leader, and the purpose and reason behind fighting the monsters. Notice that the animation is different, Land of the Lustrous is CGI, and Claymore is way more violent. But I definitely recommend both.

Note that this recommendation concerns only the short film called Kigeki (aka Comedy). Karas is longer but both anime share a lot of aspects. Both have a very dark atmosphere; a solitary dark hero, who is a man of few words; beautiful animation; awesome sword fights; and an amazing and orchestral soundtrack: Schubert’s Ave Maria in Comedy and Prague Symphony Orchestra in Karas.

Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu

Both anime have similar plot: girl meets the most popular and handsome boy in school, hates him, falls in love with him and then they start dating. Also in both anime the boy’s past haunts the relationship. The two main differences are the animation, and the fact that Kyou, Koi wo Hajimemasu is a 2 episode OVA, while Bokura ga Ita is 26 episodes. But if you liked one give the other a try.

Both movies take place at the end of World War II (1945) and the story follows the struggle of two siblings in times of war. The two stories can be very dramatic and depressing (especially Grave of the Fireflies), but they also have moments of happiness and hope. Both movies offer a different perspective of the aftermath, since the story in Grave of the Fireflies takes place in the city of Kobe and it begins with the firebombing of the city by the U.S.A. army, whereas the story in Giovanni’s Island takes place in the island of Shikotan, an island that in 1945 became part of the Soviet Union, but both movies are worth watching.

Steins;Gate

Both animes deal with time travel and the main characters are trying to change the past. Both shows have serious moments mixed with a little bit of comedy and romance. Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo can be more shoujo oriented, while Steins;Gate is more thriller, but if you liked one you definitely should try the other.

The story follows a similar group of characters, whose actions get the attention of a mysterious and shadowy organization. Although the plot is different (Eden of the East is not about time travelling), both animes have eccentric main characters, good humor, a subtle and nicely paced romance, hackers, neets and the same feeling of suspense and mystery. Also, both animes are obsessed with cellphones.

Both animes have a lot of similarities, specially the main character. They are both male, but on previous lives they were always women, although neither of them remembers about their previous reincarnations; they are supposedly very strong and their presence is crucial in the upcoming battle. Although Setsuna and Yuki have different personalities, they easily gain the love and friendship of the people around them. On both animes we have a battle between “good and evil”, although not always is clear who the real good/bad guys are. We find out about the real motives as the story progresses. I found the animation very similar. In Angel Sanctuary the colors are brighter but some characters are very alike and convey a similar feelings.
