Admittedly, Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms brings a unique twist to the rom-com genre. However, that twist quickly loses its appeal and feels like it’s thrown into the garbage, left to the curbside. The premise centers on Medaka, a monk who perpetually resists the advances of Mona, staying true to his monastic nature. Unfortunately, this resistance is where the concept stalls—there’s no depth to his character beyond constantly pushing Mona away.
The show fails to explore how Medaka became a monk or what being a monk even entails, making the central twist repetitive and shallow. In contrast, Mona has a bit more substance. She’s
...
portrayed as a slightly narcissistic girl obsessed with how others perceive her personality, which adds some flavor to her role. Still, the anime leans heavily on fanservice, seemingly as a crutch to compensate for lackluster writing.
Despite my initial urge to dislike it, I found I could switch off my brain—like a monk—and push through. The supporting cast doesn’t help much, with most characters being forgettable. The exceptions are Asahi and Tomo, who manage to prop up the plot somewhat. Without them, the show would be an even bigger mess than it already is.
On a positive note, the character designs stand out as a highlight. They’re unique and visually appealing, especially Mona’s vibrant look, which perfectly matches her personality. While Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms isn’t unwatchable, it’s ultimately forgettable—a cute, fleeting distraction from reality at best.

Kyousou Giga represents the abstract in many creative ways, particularly through its animation. The visuals are striking and imaginative, offering a unique experience that stands out in the medium. However, the story, to put it mildly, is very confusing. For example, why are there two characters named Koto? There’s no clear plot point explaining the significance of the Mother Koto or why her daughter shares the same name. It often feels like things just happen in this anime without any meaningful explanations to tie them together.
The Japanese voice acting is generally good, with most performances fitting their characters well. The exception, however, is the Chief
...
Priest. His voice just doesn’t match his aesthetic at all, which creates a jarring disconnect. This anime reminds me of works like Sonny Boy and FLCL, but its writing feels like a step down in comparison. Despite being only ten episodes long, the pacing is extremely slow, which makes it feel drawn out at times.
On the positive side, the family dynamics are a highlight. Viewing the family interact with each other is a roller coaster ride, full of emotional ups and downs. Each character in the family has their own unique personality, and no two feel too similar to one another, adding depth to their relationships. These moments shine through as some of the anime’s strongest aspects.
Unfortunately, the ending leaves much to be desired. It lacks an intriguing or satisfying explanation for how events conclude, which stands out as one of the show’s major flaws. Overall, if you’re into creative, abstract animation—think Wonder Egg Priority—and don’t mind mediocre writing, Kyousou Giga is worth checking out. It has its merits, but it’s held back by its narrative shortcomings.

What can I say? This movie has a simple plot yet manages to feel unique at the same time. It’s heavy on the action, but it doesn’t sacrifice an engaging storyline for mindless fighting. The decision to adapt this story into a movie was a great one—it’s paced just right, keeping you hooked without dragging or rushing through the key moments
The art style is impressive, especially for a film that came out in 2007. Set in the Sengoku period, it avoids vibrant colors, which fits the tone perfectly and enhances the gritty atmosphere. The action sequences are a standout—extremely well-choreographed and brimming with a hype
...
vibe that feels ahead of its time animation-wise. It’s clear this movie pushed boundaries for its era.
At its core, the evolving relationship between Nanashi and Kotarou is a strong point, showcasing something beyond just swordplay. That said, even with all the action, the film doesn’t rely on it to carry the experience. The plot holds its own, giving the fights meaning and weight.
Still, there’s room for improvement. If the story had explored Nanashi’s motivations a bit more, it could have elevated the whole thing even further. His backstory remains a mystery for the most part, left up to the viewer’s imagination. While that can be intriguing, a little more depth might’ve made him even more compelling.

Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte is a mystery masked as a medical anime. If you love mysteries, you will surely enjoy this series. Each mystery is elegantly solved with medical terminology, making it a unique blend of genres that stands out.
Don’t fret about the technical aspects—everything is explained in a way that keeps it enjoyable, even for those unfamiliar with medical jargon. The medical mysteries are fun while carrying serious undertones, which adds a layer of intrigue to each episode.
Some of the mysteries have real stakes, think life and death, which heightens the tension and keeps you invested. There’s even a hint of romance between
...
the two main characters, stemming from their natural chemistry. It becomes increasingly obvious that they gradually end up caring deeply for each other, adding a subtle emotional thread to the story.
The side characters are important to the mysteries as well; they’re not just there for show. Their involvement enhances the narrative and gives the mysteries more depth, making them feel integral to the plot rather than mere background filler.
What makes this show stand out from ordinary mystery anime is that each mystery is unpredictable in a good way. However, each mystery remains independent, with no overarching connection to the others. While this keeps the episodes self-contained, one criticism is that tying them together could bring more depth to a potential holistic plot.
If you enjoyed Odd Taxi, or even Shoshimin: How to Become Ordinary I think you would sincerely enjoy this anime. If mysteries are not your thing but dramas are I would still recommend giving this anime a shot.

Make characters great again. This rom-com suffers from two bland main characters who fail to carry the show. The female lead is a pseudo-tsundere, offering a watered-down version of the trope, while the male lead is just plain boring. Watching these two interact is like watching paint dry—there’s no spark or excitement to keep you invested.
The characters lack depth, resembling a shallow pool rather than a vast ocean. In contrast, the side characters steal the show with their more intriguing personalities and better chemistry. The anime truly shines when they’re on screen, outshining the leads by a mile.
The writing sticks to tired, predictable "misunderstanding" plot
...
lines that plague generic rom-coms. By the end of the series, nothing meaningful is achieved, leaving you with little more than the hollow satisfaction of finishing a mind-numbingly mid anime. The title promises hate between the main characters, but where is it? If the writing leaned into that premise with some real stakes, this could have been a unique standout.
Another missed opportunity lies with the male lead, who’s repeatedly described as intelligent yet never gets a chance to show it. Why bother mentioning his intellect so often if the series isn’t going to explore it? It’s a frustrating tease that goes nowhere.
Overall, this anime isn’t worth your time. If you’re craving a rom-com with depth and heart—something this show could have been—skip this and watch Toradora! instead.

Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction fuses slice-of-life charm with the electric tension of a thriller, creating an explosive genre hybrid that feels surprisingly natural. The story centers on two best friends—yin and yang in personality, abstract and concrete—whose chemistry anchors the everyday moments. Yet their world is anything but ordinary, warped by an alien invasion that injects uncertainty into Tokyo’s atmosphere. The result is an intriguing plot that blends relatable banter with a wild, unpredictable ride.
The anime shines in its world-building and character depth. Politics, both human and cosmic, twist through the narrative, with governments, invaders, and citizens all reacting in ways that keep you
...
guessing. Each character, even the so-called villains, carries distinct motivations and a touch of humanity that blurs moral lines. The looming questions—What do the aliens want? How will the world respond?—drive a nail-biting tension that dares you to hit “next episode.”
Visually and conceptually, it’s a mind-bender. The alien technology isn’t just flashy set dressing; it has purpose and weight, though the scientific jargon (think “world-lines”) can occasionally confuse. The mystery element adds another layer, with questions about the invaders unfolding slowly. While the atmosphere of unease permeates every frame, the uniqueness of the objects and ideas keeps it fresh—though a single watch might not unravel it all.
That said, it’s not flawless. Some supporting characters feel underexplored, overshadowed by the mains whose depths rival an ocean. Still, the focus on the central cast pays off, delivering personalities you can’t help but invest in. Dead Dead Demons is a must-see for fans of slice-of-life with a twist or thrillers that trade jump scares for existential dread—perfect for anyone ready to question reality one episode at a time.
