Man, sometimes I forget how homophobic the vast majority of anime fans are, and then I do the normy thing and look at the reviews on My Anime List. Anyways, this one goes out to my fellow LGBTs who are looking for good representation, because Given is a breath of fresh air. No sexual harassment or assault, homophobia isn't completely handwaved away nor harped on for angst (a classmate outs Mafuyu at the end of one episode with kind of nasty intentions, but it's resolved very quickly.) No.6 (Anime) add
So I haven't seen No. 6 in years, but I rank it so highly because nostalgia demands it, and I would never have read the light novels if I hadn't watched it. I remember loving the characters and worldbuilding, but the plot/pacing being off/confusing. It PALES in comparison to the light novels, and this review is more a shameless plug for them than anything, but I still think it was a pretty solid show, all things considered. Revolutionary Girl Utena is probably the only series I will ever reserve a "10" ranking for. If I could only pick a single anime to watch for the rest of my life, I would pick Utena, and I wouldn't have to deliberate for a second. This is not a show I would recommend to everyone or even most people, but I cannot overstate its personal importance to me.
